Tears of Jupiter: The Cosmos and the Camino
Tears of Jupiter is the story of one woman's pilgrimage through Portugal and Spain on the sacred Camino de Santiago -- told through each footstep on her journey. In this endearing memoir, Shima honors the significance of looking back in order to move forward. In a foreign country, with nothing but a backpack and her thoughts, she walked nearly 500 kilometers in unyielding rain. This heart-searching solitude gave her a clear understanding of her Divine purpose and for Shima Shanti nothing was more profound.
The Breath of Cuba Part 2: Passion Play: One Woman's Love Affair with the Magic, Music and Men of Cuba
The Breath of Cuba Part II takes the reader deeper into Cuba through bedrooms and late night dances. Cheri's passion for the Cuban culture invites you into new realms where romance, music, passion and cultural distinctions merge to take you on a journey into another place and time. This story captures the end of an era in Cuba, and marks a time that has now passed as it was set in 2012 at a time when Cuba still had very little access to cell phones and internet. In stark contrast to Part I of The Breath of Cuba, in part II, the author is on a journey where romance and passion mix with a high spirited spiritual reclamation, societal rebellion and a profound reconnection with the fullness of self expression as a woman. In every page, you will get deeper into the world behind Cuba's facades, and the author's as well. What Readers are Saying: "Cheri makes the Cuba come alive in words. The book is very sensual -- as I read I can see, hear (and smell) the surroundings -- very palpable. I was also intrigued by her perspectives on Cuban culture, and can especially relate to the dancing aspect of the people's lives there. Dancing is a world and language of its own, and you capture that experience exquisitely." Tania Bank"Part 2 of this story is a lens into the complicated dynamics of cross cultural relationships, but more so it shows a lot about to p intimacy and psychology that tourists can never understand on a few day adventure to Cuba. Cheri's American perspective in an old world traditional culture was one of the most intriguing parts of this story. And the sensuality she writes with is always a pleasure to read."Marissa Stevens"The Breath of Cuba Part II was welcomed with open arms. Part I sets the stage, and Part II takes you deeper into bedrooms and living rooms beyond the facades of the culture into seeing and feeling the reality behind the facade of tourist Cuba. This is an incredible story Cheri has written, and Part I sets you up perfectly for Part II. I can't wait for Part III.Lois Hunter Rhodes

Semiconducting nanostructures such as nanowires (NWs) have been used as building blocks for various types of sensors, energy storage and generation devices, electronic devices and for new manufacturing methods involving printed NWs. The response of these sensing/energy/electronic components and the new fabrication methods depends very much on the quality of NWs and for this reason it is important to understand the growth mechanism of 1D semiconducting nanostructures. This is also important to understand the compatibility of NW growth steps and tools used in the process with these unconventional substrates such as plastic that are used in flexible and large area electronics. Therefore, this Element presents at length discussion about the growth mechanisms, growth conditions and the tools used for the synthesis of NWs. Although NWs from Si, ZnO and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are included, the discussion is generic and relevant to several other types of NWs as well as heterostructures.

ONE OF THE BEST COOKBOOKS OF THE YEAR: Washington Post, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine, Forbes, EATER, Smithsonian Magazine, Library Journal • ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS TO GIFT: The Strategist, DominoRaised in Appalachia, native daughter Ashleigh Shanti, a queer Black woman and acclaimed chef, knows Southern Black cooking means more than we’ve come to believe. While hot buttered cast-iron-pan cornbread and crunchy, juicy, lard-fried chicken have their roles to play, they are far from the entire story. The key to understanding how Black influence has defined foodways and cultures in the South is to explore its microregions, each with its own distinct flora and fauna, dialects, traditions, and dishes. In Our South, Ashleigh takes you through the five regions closest to her heart, beginning with a glimpse of mountain life in the Backcountry through recipes like Fish Camp Hush Puppies and quail spiked with black pepper. A swing over to the coastal Lowcountry fills your plate with smoky grilled oysters and benne seed–topped crab toasts. Seasonal produce shines in the Midlands, where bountiful stone fruits enrich dishes from shortcakes to salads. Lowlands nods to the diversity of food cultures that meet in the region, where Ashleigh grew up eating noodle dishes like Virginia yock alongside Southern classics like Brunswick stew. The book culminates in Homeland, with foods that share what it’s like to cook—and live—as a Black Southern chef now. Long before competing on Top Chef and earning a coveted James Beard Award Rising Star Chef nomination for her cooking at Asheville, North Carolina’s Benne on Eagle, Ashleigh shelled boiled peanuts and coveted the jars of pickles in her great-aunt Hattie Mae’s larder. In high school, she pored over food and travel magazines and marveled at how her mother never failed to put a hot meal on the table, whether instant grits or slowly cooked celebration dishes. After spending a gap year in Nairobi and graduating from culinary school, Ashleigh entered the restaurant world, bartending, catering, teaching, and staging. She rekindled her connection to the cuisine of her roots before opening her own restaurant, Good Hot Fish, named for a phrase her ancestors would shout to draw in customers. Our South takes readers on a mouthwatering journey through Appalachia and beyond, revealing the depth and diversity of Southern cooking through the eyes of a rising culinary star. Perfect for fans of other regional Southern cookbooks like the Mosquito Supper Club cookbook or soul food cookbooks like Jubilee, Our South stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of Black culinary traditions, offering a contemporary exploration of Black Southern foodways that's both personal and universal.

In this book, Rev. Karenna Shanti Miller outlines an approach to dying consciously -- dying from birth, rather than from life. The book starts with a look at life from birth to death and root to crown, considering how we live, love, learn and leave. Going inside the dying process reveals the significance of leaving versus dying; holding and being held; practicing death as life; and dying with a partner or circle. There is information for those who wish to support a dying person, such as managing pain during the dying process, the labor of dying, limbic brain response to ritual, the "four brains," and "spells" that impact the dying process. Ultimately, the book holds up surrender as the key to welcoming spirit and unfurling in death, as in life.
