Meet Bert Shambles, a perpetually confused young man whose life continually mirrors his surname. He is stuck back in his suburban Long Island hometown, enduring a three-year suspended sentence for an act of chivalry gone terribly wrong. He works part-time at a church thrift shop and makes extra money by selling "dead stock"-vintage clothes that have never been worn-to a local boutique. On a routine pick up for the thrift shop, Bert learns that the widow of a recently deceased pro golfer is offering a reward for the return of her dead husband's favorite putter-and an even bigger reward for proof that her husband was murdered. Bert jumps at the chance, and soon finds himself being chased by a violent, van-driving maniac, romantically involved with a mobster's daughter, and quite possibly being set up to take the fall by his probation officer and crazy ex-girlfriend. As the forces of good and evil close in around him, Bert must race to clear his name and discover the truth so he doesn't wind up in prison...or worse.Filled with twists, turns, and unforgettable characters, and propelled by a truly lovable hero and wicked sense of humor, Dead Stock heralds the arrival of a wonderful new mystery series.

These fourteen stories are intended for doctors and their patients. They reflect the enduring nature of the doctor/patient relationship. Praise for Postscripts"Dr. Fisher captures the essence of primary patient care through these remarkable stories. He writes of the privileged role he played in the lives of his patients from his time in Harlem, on the Navajo Indian Reservation, and in private practice. Future doctors as well as anyone curious about the special nature of the doctor-patient relationship will appreciate the endless rewards of a career so intimately devoted to caring for others. Beautifully written and enriched with the charming illustrations by Tim Janicki, this gem of a book will enlighten and delight a wide audience of readers."-Sally G. McMillen, PhD., Professor of History Emeritus, Davidson College "The nineteen delightful inked images rendered for this special book by Tim Janicki capture our imagination as we travel though the chapters. This book focuses on debates surrounding the body, soul, and spirit, and addresses other aspects of theological anthropology in service to that angle. What unseen forces govern fictional settings across films, television, and print? Are the bodies they portray useless, evil, spirited, or maybe soulless? This book interrogates the body in examples like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Castlevania, Get Out, Pan's Labyrinth, and Watchmen. While theological anthropology examines the body and soul, human agency, evil, and the image of God in reality, a new method of analysis, spirited anthropology, explores how these concepts operate in fictional worlds. From Captain America's virtue and Clayface's fluid body to Mike Myers' evil shape and transcendence in virtual reality and digital avatars, world-building across media elevates, diminishes, redefines, and mutates the body. The book contends that these spirited anthropologies present worlds occasionally injected with politics and social concerns from this reality, regardless of how ghosts, aliens, or virtual simulations try to strange the matter on display in each story.
