Number Theory Through Inquiry is an innovative textbook that leads students on a carefully guided discovery of introductory number theory. The book has two equally significant goals. One goal is to help students develop mathematical thinking skills, particularly, theorem-proving skills. The other goal is to help students understand some of the wonderfully rich ideas in the mathematical study of numbers. This book is appropriate for a proof transitions course, for an independent study experience, or for a course designed as an introduction to abstract mathematics. Math or related majors, future teachers, and students or adults interested in exploring mathematical ideas on their own will enjoy Number Theory Through Inquiry.Number theory is the perfect topic for an introduction-to-proofs course. Every college student is familiar with basic properties of numbers, and yet the exploration of those familiar numbers leads us to a rich landscape of ideas. Number Theory Through Inquiry contains a carefully arranged sequence of challenges that lead students to discover ideas about numbers and to discover methods of proof on their own. It is designed to be used with an instructional technique variously called guided discovery or Modified Moore Method or Inquiry Based Learning (IBL). Instructors' materials explain the instructional method. This style of instruction gives students a totally different experience compared to a standard lecture course. Here is the effect of this experience: Students learn to think independently: they learn to depend on their own reasoning to determine right from wrong; and they develop the central, important ideas of introductory number theory on their own. From that experience, they learn that they can personally create important ideas, and they develop an attitude of personal reliance and a sense that they can think effectively about difficult problems. These goals are fundamental to the educational enterprise within and beyond mathematics.
This book includes much of the verse in traditional styles on Christian subjects that I have written. By "traditional styles" I mean those that have a regular rhythm and, generally, rhyme. Some of them, the judgment being in the mind of the reader, may be poetry. They include numerous sonnets and other set forms. Some are very brief, while others are prolonged considerations of Christian truth. "Progress" relates the journey of Israel from Egypt to the setting up of the temple and the insight it gives on Christian. May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all things "Let the word of the Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another, in psalms, hymns, spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God."
This is the third collection of poems by McLean since his return to the UK in February of 2022. In this book is a new version of the Posthuman Poetry manifesto. The themes of posthumanism, beast, Lyotard, Deleuze & Guattari, the goddess Tiamat, Somerest, nature, Nietzsche, Derrida's poetics, a sense of beauty amid the emptiness of life, anarchy, chaos versus order, & indeterminacy, are repeated in the poems. His gratitude to the friend who basically saved his life, the preeminent bunny, &, of course, his beloved muse, Emma, are the prime movers. &, naturally, worship of Tiamat.
This book is the first written since McLean returned to England in 2022, & follows a series of books of love poetry. As such, it shows an attempt to reorient to a life that is meaningful because of earth, nature, beast, & goddess, without any focus for the sexuality with which the flesh, as such, is instinct, & without any sense of social connection. The intensity differs thereby in its focus, though some themes are retained. These are poems about living on, & trusting in the goddess to give the fire & the words one needs to live & feel.

Concurrency describes any potential time overlap in a set of activities. Its most onerous complexities have been tackled mostly by parallel programmers trying to speed up their applications by harnessing the power of multiple computers (processors, or cores) tied together. Other programmers have mostly remained content with the relative simplicity and ever-increasing speeds of standard sequential (non-parallel) computers, and the rest of us with one-step-at-a-time approaches. But those days are ending: Typical processor speeds have leveled off, and now even laptops and phones are picking up the slack by integrating multiple processors and graphics coprocessors. In the human realm, as communication of all sorts becomes faster and more ubiquitous, we have ever more services (by computers and people) at our disposal, their decentralized nature implying concurrency. How can we humans plan for, and keep track of, all this available concurrency with our "one track" minds? Can these concurrent plans scale up to exploit ever larger collections of processors and/or services? This text uses simple analogies, examples, and thought experiments to explain basic concepts in concurrency to a broad audience, and to devise an intuitive "elementary particle of activity". A new graphical representation called ScalPL (Scalable Planning Language) is then introduced for building even complex concurrent activities of all kinds from those elemental activities, one mind-sized bite at a time. Lack of support, lousy pay, and a casual disregard for the value of our teachers has left current and potential teachers discouraged and uninspired. We need to stand up for our folks, demonstrate boldness, recapture the message, encourage the beaten down, and embolden those who genuinely care about the future of our kids!

On December 31, 1939, nationwide radio audiences listened as 17-year-old Josephine Owaissa Cottle, a Texas schoolgirl, won Gateway to Hollywood's new talent competition. Her prize was a movie contract at RKO and a memorable stage name--"Gale Storm." One of the United States' most beloved entertainers, she appeared in 35 films, starred in two hit television series (one was My Little Margie) and earned a gold record for "I Hear You Knockin'." Drawing on interviews with family, friends and colleagues, this biography provides many unpublished details of her life and career. An annotated filmography encompasses Storm's time at Monogram Pictures, her roles in westerns and her appearances in classics such as It Happened on 5th Avenue. Her TV career is covered, including complete production histories and episode guides.
Dubbed "The Dollar Bills," William H. Pine and William C. Thomas made 1940s Hollywood take notice with their B movies for Paramount that gave solid entertainment while cutting costs to the bone. In the 1950s, with television looming, Pine-Thomas Productions began making bigger-budget films with stars including James Cagney and Jane Wyman, and incorporating trends like 3-D. "The public is Hollywood's boss," Pine said, and the company gave moviegoers what they wanted. Written with the assistance of the Pine and Thomas families, this book draws on Thomas' never-published memoir, interviews with colleagues and relatives, and rarely seen photographs to document the story of Pine-Thomas and its founders. An annotated filmography covers their 76 feature films and five shorts. Appendices give biographical sketches of such actors as Robert Lowery, Jean Parker and John Payne, as well as the directors, cinematographers and other crew members who made movies at top speed with more ingenuity than money.
