""It takes a brave person to write a cookbook these days,"" begins Thomas Moore (author of Care of the Soul: A Guide to Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life) in his foreword to The Alchemy of Cooking. ""In this book you will sense no heroics . . . What you get is a sophisticated man choosing to eat simply and inviting others to share in his culinary happiness. Chef as therapist."" ""I was reminded of James Hillman's Freud's Own Cookbook with its recipes for such psychological fare as ""momovers' and 'Paranoid Pie.'"" Dr David H. Rosen is a physician, psychiatrist, and Jungian analyst. His interests include: finding meaning in suffering; dreams; spirituality as it relates to healing; and all kinds of creativity. David is the author of twelve books, including Transforming Depression: Healing the Soul through Creativity; The Tao of Jung: The Way of Integrity; Lost in the Long White Cloud: Finding My Way Home; Patient Centered Medicine: A Human Experience with Uyen Hoang; The Healing Spirit of Haiku with Joel Weishaus; Time, Love and Licorice: A Healing Coloring Storybook; and The Tao of Elvis. Dr Rosen is editor of the Texas A&M University Press twenty-volume Fay Book Series in Analytical Psychology. Rosen's books have been translated into many languages. David was born in 1945 in Port Chester, New York, and attended University of California, Berkeley and the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He received psychiatric training at the University of California, San Francisco and subsequent training in Jungian analysis. He was the initial holder of the McMillan Professorship in Analytical Psychology at Texas A&M University (the first of its kind in the world), and is now Affiliate Professor in Psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University. Currently living in Eugene, Oregon, with his wife Lanara, David walks, paints and sees analytic patients. He also enjoys creating visual art, performing stand-up comedy, and writing haiku and ten-minute plays.

""David Rosen's Kindergarten Symphony is a novel addition to children's ABC books. It is a symphony in the true sense of the word, as it is a harmonious compilation of various parts and levels. The photos of the numerous animals, many of which would not be found in North America, are superb and portray the animal in its natural state, while at the same time providing us with an opportunity to bestow on them human traits. Children do not only learn about the sequence of the alphabet, but are given windows into names and images of animals not usually encountered. The adjectives consist of new words, which are in synchrony with the names, thus expanding the child's vocabulary. A wonderful book for both old and young."" --Astrid Berg, Jungian Analyst and Emerita Professor in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, University of Cape Town, South Africa ""David Rosen, psychiatrist, professor, and author of clinical material, Haiku, and a Jungian cookbook, has brought his sense of wonder to his new book Kindergarten Symphony. As a child therapist, I plan to put a copy in the waiting room of my practice--to be enjoyed by the young and not so young. As a colleague in the Pacific Northwest Society of Jungian Analysts (PNSJA), after experiencing the joy in David's book, our mutual analytical group can now be known as P--Prickly Porcupine, N--Napping Newt, S--Slithering Snake, J--Joyful Jaguar, and A--Advancing Ant."" --Janet Tatum, MSW, Jungian Analyst David H. Lesbianism: A Study in Female Homosexuality

Lesbianism: A Study in Female Homosexuality

This new edition of Lesbianism allows one to understand lesbianism as a way of life. The original 1965-1966 research study is included in its entirety. Unlike Freud, who based his view that lesbianism was a mental disorder on a single case study, this breakthrough and innovative research project concerns interviews and psychological testing of 26 lesbians who were not psychiatric patients. And, as one would predict, these lesbians were not disturbed, as far as mental health was concerned. The original research was done before homosexuality was removed as a mental disorder. It seems odd today to even consider Freud's view as accurate. We have come a long way in recognizing that one's sexual preference is just that. This study was a pioneering one that disproved a false idea that lesbianism was evidence of an emotional disorder. And this 2020 edition includes a conversation about the book with Rachel Rosen, who is a lesbian. The dialogue between the author and his daughter provides insightful questions and a true understanding of lesbianism.
