A Study Through Skull Morphology on the Diversity of Holocene African Populations in a Historical Perspective
This volume explores through skull morphology some potential sources of biological diversity within sub-Saharan Africa, such as geography and especially history, in relation to large-scale population movements. Through various statistical analyses, it re-evaluates morphological variation within modern sub-Saharan African populations, using a very large modern human sample and a set of metric variables related to the cranium and mandible. In the same way it also traces morphological patterns through time, focusing on various Later Stone Age and Iron Age populations, originating in particular from strategic areas of various influences.

Debt or death. In a world where faeries are born with their debt tattooed on their bodies, High Fae gamble with lives over games on the lawn, and secrets and favours are traded as currency, things have never been fair. But right now, things are feeling particularly unfair to Avery. Tensions are high among the Houses of Reign, Illusion, Healing and Death, and she has found herself at the centre of the precarious court politics. As a palace faerie and handmaiden to Lady Kassandra of the House of Illusion, Avery is busy preparing for the coming Coronation and announcement of her mistress' betrothal to the new king. Both of their freedoms rely on it: Kassandra, to escape her violent brother, and Avery, to pay off rings of debt tattoos that blacken her shoulders. But after a series of sudden and fatal events, Avery is forced to serve both Lady Kassandra and the new King of the House of Reign.Torn between two masters, her loyalties are tested as she uncovers secrets, both given and stolen, and sees past the façades the ruling Fae have crafted. Though their kingdoms are eternal and their ruling powers strong as a fortress, the cracks are beginning to show.Whether it means subterfuge or sexual promises, blood oaths or blood baths, Avery will use skill at her disposal, every part of her being, to free her growing circle of loved ones. And once she ultimately uncovers the truth of the High Fae and the key to all faerie freedom, she must make the hardest choice. For what is liberation, if not for all.The Debtor's Game is the first book in a lush, gritty and subversive fantasy romance series, perfect for fans of Holly Black and Tasha Suri.

The winner of nine literary awards in France, including the Prix Simone Veil, celebrating a woman of action, Bérénice 1934–44: An Actress in Occupied Paris is Isabelle Stibbe’s poignant debut novel. Now translated into English by Zack Rogow and Renée Morel, Bérénice 1934–44 reveals a young woman’s struggle to fulfill her career aspirations while concealing herself in war-torn France. Bérénice yearns to become an actress, but her parents insist that career is not proper for a girl. She defies her Jewish family to become the leading younger actress in the Comédie-Française, France’s most renowned theater, right when the Nazis occupy France. Bérénice hides her true identity and last name to avoid detection. Living in a world without tolerance and torn between two lovers, Bérénice must choose between her passion for the stage, and her allegiance to freedom and to her Jewish heritage. Critical Praise for the Original French Edition: "This is an amazing first novel.”—Le Nouvel Observateur “Isabelle Stibbe blends real history and fictitious characters in this well-researched first novel, with an impeccable classic style.”—Le Monde “Her novel doesn’t just document a slice of French cultural life under the Occupation—it also communicates the passion and fervor of its author.”—Livres Hebdo “Bérénice 1934-44 is Isabelle Stibbe’s first novel, but it feels to the reader like the work of a seasoned writer, particularly in her masterful blending of fiction and historical fact.”—Le Figaro
