This is a story of two aristocratic brothers who volunteered to fight in the First World War and who were killed within months of each other in Flanders while fighting bravely for their country. The letters contained in this book are those that they both sent to their beloved Mother, Lady Ettie Desborough, describing in vivid details not only the battles that they took part in but also, particularly in Julian Desborough's case, with journalistic verve the events surrounding these battles in a time when an aristocrat such as he could go to battle accompanied by his greyhounds and horses. The story of the two young men contrasts the mud of the trenches with the luxury of leave spent in the Ritz in Paris and the palatial grounds of their country homes in England. Julian and Billy were also consummate consumers. Their letters contain a constant stream of requests for luxury and utilitarian items that they deemed necessary to life on a battlefield, items that their parents, Lord and Lady Desborough were quick to furnish. Although the boys were indulged, their bravery in battle became legendary in the British army and Julian also enjoyed some repute as a War poet, composing the poem that forms the title of this book.

The year is 64 A.D. -- though now A.D. stands for Anno Daemonii.Demons have crossed a gate into our world, taking the reins of power from humanity. A new Inquisition has begun, determined to root out any who stand against the new world order. The holy sites on earth have been destroyed -- Jerasulem first, then the Vatican, then Mecca -- and what resistance remains is ruthlessly crushed. Amaranth is a fighter in the resistance cell based in London. Dham is a Ringer, one of the few people left able to ring the remaining sets of blessed hand bells that have power over demons. When Amaranth discovers that her best friend has been possessed by a demon and is going to be used in the Resistance's final, desperate mission, she asks Dham for his help in saving her friend. With the Inquisition closing in and betrayal threatening from inside the Resistance itself, Amaranth, Dham, and the demon -- along with Catriona, a new, highly-skilled, highly-blonde bell-ringer -- decide to head to Rome and the ruins of Vatican City, hoping to find a way to stem the tide of demonic possessions and close the gate.

Esther the Musical is a two-hour Broadway musical style show with a redeeming message of a sovereign God. The script follows the setting of the Persian Empire 483 BC. King Xerxes had conquered all of the known world at that time with the exception of Greece. Jerusalem was destroyed and the Hebrews taken captive. From this scenario emerges the story of one lovely Jewish orphan girl who was raised by her older cousin Mordecai, and then suddenly, taken to the harem at the kings palace. There, she finds a destiny she would never have imagined She eventually rises to become the Queen of Persia and saves her people from an impending holocaust. The script accurately follows the Old Testament bible story from the book of Esther. It is packed with intrigue, suspense, and a violent, clever man, determined to wipe out the Jewish race, a king who is filled with his own power and wealth who loves to party and is susceptible to flattery, and a young woman who is placed in the mix to bring sanity back to the nation and end a wicked plot. The show captivates and delights the audience with a wide variety of songs from ballads to jazz, operatic to Hebrew and Jamaican to Broadway. The pace is always moving and exciting. The theme song of the show At This Time, In This Place is sung by Esther as she tries to decide her fate. Again, it is done in reprise by the entire cast as Esther emerges victorious over evil. The production has also interspersed some light comedy with its heart-wrenching, tearful scenes.

Interpreting The Amistad Trials traces the signal importance of interpreters and translators in the famous 19th-century Amistad case and discusses how race, ethnicity, slavery, and colonialism shaped this story. From the recruitment process to the various oral to sign languages that mediated linguistically in the Africans’ life inside and outside the courtroom, and from evidentiary documents to fraudulent translations to credible testimonies, Jeanette Zaragoza-De León demonstrates the crucial importance of translation and interpretation in the Amistad plot and outcome. De León examines handwritten letters, pamphlets, newspapers, and judicial files, and adopts a critical race theory and postcolonial lens to analyze these materials. Although these critical interpretations and translations travelled transatlantically via Europe, Africa, the Caribbean, and the United States, De León highlights the common thread which also geographically unites Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic as part of the Amistad story. One of the most comprehensive studies of recorded events in the history of interpretation and translation in the Americas, Interpreting The Amistad Trials is a valuable resource for researchers studying coloniality, enslavement, race and ethnic studies and examining how these issues mattered then and now.

Some of the deepest questions of women’s hearts are about beauty: an innate desire to decorate ourselves and our surroundings, and the struggle to feel beautiful. But these desires are often in direct conflict with values and beliefs that tell us fashion (or any form of creativity) is frivolous and vain, and may actually be a sin.Jeanette Johnson, founder of popular style blog J’s Everyday Fashion, shares her personal journey and the stories of other women, examining how we can best explore our quest for beauty while still honoring our faith and personal values and being responsible consumers. Jeanette delves into topics that many women grapple with: Is fashion selfish? Is it necessary? Does it dishonor our faith? With an in-depth look at issues like healthy self-esteem, modesty, and how fashion fits into the big picture, Jeanette offers practical, thoughtful insight, guiding every woman to conquer her fashion guilt and achieve “personal style with purpose.”
