'Our Tartu' is a book about the districts which form Tartu. It is a story of seventeen chapters which takes visitors on a journey through a kaleidoscopic Tartu. There are actually eighteen districts, but we decided to cover the neighbourhood of Ropka and the industrial district of Ropka as one whole when putting together the book.This book gives its own voice to each of the districts, allowing them to tell the peculiar stories for their neighbourhoods. Those stories are seen through the eyes of the locals to form a comprehensive whole. This conveys the overall feeling which serves to form each district, but also provides a feeling of the entirety of Tartu from a unique wider perspective. The stories inspired the book's illustrations, which may appear hipster-like and have been created with childlike joy, but they do convey the significant observations and layers which are concealed within our city and its districts.
