Planning Progress

Planning Progress

This is a practical examination of the idea that planning as a skill is essential to human progress, but that some individual exemplify this skill more than others, and furthermore that such individuals may be able to help organizations move in a more purposeful direction. The book reviews planning theory in relation to planning for a better future, looking at such classic authors as and then explores the planning style of one key leader, Shoghi Effendi, to show how such strategies as vision, encouragement, and feedback can help improve the planning outcomes for a range of human organizations. Other major components of able planning include consultation, goal-directed behavior, and meaningful action. The original letters of Shoghi Effendi, dating largely from 1936 to 1957, offer illustrative text for these principles. In this particular case, his leadership of a worldwide spiritual community devoted to the principles of unity and justice and yet stymied by low growth rates drew successfully on such principles in order to achieve progress in a series of countries and continents. The book includes practical suggestions for improving the planning success of organizations private and public as well as of individuals.

PARIS, 1943. Hate drove Hitler to order the total destruction of Paris; this is the love story that saved the city and the first book in Marguerite Charbonneau's trilogy. She is an extraordinary French woman: a brilliant PhD candidate at France's superior university, striking in her features and elegant deportment, opinionated and sharp tongued, and passionate in all that she does. Intent on enjoying life despite the occupation, she lives with German Colonel Erich von Hochst tten, a handsome aristocrat she loves, who is chief of staff to the Military Governor of Paris. Erich is an admired Olympic equestrian champion who introduces her to high society.Marguerite's charismatic former lover Jean-Baptiste Duval convinces her that Germany is losing the war and seduces her into spying for the Resistance. Their love triangle is discovered by an SS-Gestapo psychopath placing them all in grave danger. Will they survive the war? . . . and if they do, which man will she choose? The story is based on true events in their actual settings and inspired by the real men and women who courageously fought for the liberation of Paris. Their uprising is one of the iconic events of WWII that narrowly saved Paris from becoming the "field of ruins" ordered by Hitler to punish Parisians and to delay the Allied advance following D-Day. This is a thrilling novel for everyone

Edmond Manning, author of "The Lost and Founds" series has made a few mistakes in his life. Well, more than a few. But with his characteristic ability to embrace the weird and the wonderful, he prefers to think of them as "experiences." Why label an adventure a regret if everything works out in the end? Whether getting high from an airplane stranger's candy, attempting to deceive the DMV with magic, or discovering he might be the central figure in an unfolding teen horror flick, Manning reflects on a lifetime of questionable decisions in this memoir and confessional. In the essay, "Dear Penthouse, " Manning ponders the appropriate response to a late-night booty call from an irritating neighbor. "The Best New York Sandwich" documents his day being homeless in New York City. Soft reflections about "The Final Blessing" from his father, and thoughts of growing older, are interspersed with odd tales of a family that believes in "Moon Recession Birthdays." Manning leaps from personal lunacy to handling homophobia to sheer wonder at the beauty of everyday people which makes for a giggly, surprising, and occasionally sweet-sad journey through a gay man's collected tales of a life filled with glorious mistakes.
