In den letzten Jahren spielten die Aspekte BPO und Offshoring eine besondere Rolle, und in diesem Zug konnte ich Unternehmen helfen, Standorte im globalen Service Business zu finden und Center in Ländern wie Ungarn oder Indien aufzubauen. „Mittendrin statt nur dabei“ hat sich hier auch als probate Forschungsstrategie gezeigt, kann man die Komplexität und Herausforderungen dieser Ansätze doch nur verstehen, wenn man unmittelbar in die Praxis von Shared Services, BPO und Offshoring ein- bunden ist. Neben den vielen praktischen Erkenntnissen, die in diesem Buch dargelegt w- den sollen, ist es aber auch mein Anliegen, eine wissenschaftliche Diskussion des Themas anzustoßen. Die theoretischen Beiträge zu Shared Services halten sich bislang in Grenzen, die wissenschaftlichen Aspekte werden – wenn üb- haupt – nur am Rande diskutiert. Dabei greifen Shared Services massiv in die organisationstheoretischen Grundlagen der Betriebswirtschaftslehre ein. BPO stellt die gesamte Theorie der Unternehmung und die Prinzipien der funktio- len Arbeitsteilung in Frage, und Offshoring befasst sich mit den übergeordneten wirtschaftspolitischen Fragen der optimalen Allokation von Arbeit.
