Spring Man

Spring Man

Spring Man: A Belief Legend between Folklore and Popular Culture deconstructs the nationalistic myth of Spring Man that was created after the Second World War in visual culture and literature and presents his original form as an ambiguous ghostly denizen of oral culture. Petr Janecek analyzes the archetypal character, social context, and cultural significance of this fascinating phenomenon with help of dozens of accounts provided by period eyewitnesses, oral narratives, and other sources. At the same time, the author illustrates the international origin of the tales in the originally British migratory legend of Spring-heeled Jack that reaches back to the second third of the 19th century and draws parallels between the Czech myth of spring man and similar urban phantom narratives popular in the 1910s Russia, 1940s U.S. and Slovakia, 1950s Germany, as well as other parts of the world.

Do you sometimes find it difficult to engage your loved one with dementia? To help them stay calm in the midst of an emotional reaction? To find activities you can share with them that encourage peaceful interaction? This book can help. Spring (A Season of Memories) is the first in a series of four books highlighting childhood memories from each of the four seasons. Paging through this book is an activity that will capture your loved one's attention, engage their mind, and encourage them to relax. People with dementia often have difficulty with short-term memory, but many of their long-term memories are intact. As your loved one is reminded of the activities of childhood, they may be inspired to talk about their own childhood or the joy they experienced raising their own children. The childhood memories included in this book are simple ones that will be familiar to all seniors, such as flying a kite, learning to ride a bicycle, turning a cartwheel, and climbing a tree. Each "memory" is a short, uplifting story of a few sentences in large-print text illustrated by a full-page, full-color photo. At Sunny Street Books, we design books specifically for seniors with dementia. Families, caregivers, and memory care staff can share our books with the people they care for. They also provide an excellent activity for seniors with Parkinson's disease or recovering from a stroke. Seniors with eyesight or strength challenges who find it difficult to hold a heavy book or read long paragraphs of text will also enjoy our books. FEATURES - Beautiful Content Spring (A Season of Memories) is filled with stories of childhood memories illustrated with full-page, full-color photos. - Minimal Text Each story is only a few sentences long and is told in simple language. - The Perfect Gift If you struggle to find gifts for your loved one, this book is the perfect solution. - Shareable Activity Our books are an excellent activity for seniors with dementia. Even if they're no longer able to read, they'll enjoy having this book read to them as they follow the illustrations. It's also a wonderful activity for a young relative to share with a dementia patient. - Manageable Size This is a 40-page, 6" x 9" softcover book that's comfortable to hold and easy to tuck into a bag. - High Quality The quality of this book's cover and its meticulous interior design are indistinguishable from books created for other readers. Just because a book is simple and uncomplicated doesn't mean it has to be unattractive, unprofessional, or childish. - Discreet Packaging At no time is anything mentioned about Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or any other challenges the reader might be facing. This book can be given to your loved one without fear that they might feel embarrassed or offended. NOTES FOR CAREGIVERS - Sit beside your loved one in a quiet place that is free of distractions. - Allow them to hold the book if possible, and also turn the pages, which will enable them to become more engaged in the book. - Put a pillow in their lap to support the book as you thumb through it together. - Leave this book in an accessible place to allow your loved one to pick it up on their own when you're not there. Finalist, 2020 Miller Williams Poetry Prize Inspired by Matsuo Basho's writings and teachings on poetics and haiku, the interrelated lyric poems in Sky of Wu investigate work and marriage, the question of becoming a parent while watching a parent age into dementia, and the realities of wrestling with inequality, pollution, and habitat loss while navigating everyday life in Oakland, California. Simultaneously, they converse with Chinese poets from the eighth century and Japanese writers from the eleventh and seventeenth centuries. From these disparate sources, Halebsky weaves together small moments, stolen phrases, and images of beauty, allowing them to reveal their own sly humor and unvarnished truth.

They thought the harvest was over. But a darker evil is about to be revealed... It has been more than a year since the offspring of Black River's oldest families made their final stand against the evil Bell Witch. Their victory took a heavy toll, and left the survivors scarred and estranged from their blood lines. But now, as they return home to their small, quiet town, they are shocked to discover a new evil, festering among the shadowy trees... Without the threat of the Witch's bloody harvest, the family elders have fallen into chaos. Internal squabbling has left them blind to this new enemy in their midst. Local legends have barely begun to fade, when a group of tourists go missing. Some say the Witch has returned. But Basheba, Mina, and the others believe it could be something even worse. As the survivors dig deeper, they discover that one of their own may have been corrupted by an ancient evil-a power greater than anything they have faced before. But is the Bell Witch behind all this? Has she returned once again, to wreck vengeance on the families she cursed centuries ago? Or does someone else lurk in the shadows, plotting to seize power for themselves?
Spring Creek Home Front Newsletter June 1943 to December 1945
The Spring Creek Home Front was published between June 1943 and December 1945 as a monthly newsletter mailed to the servicemen from the Spring Creek, PA area. Mrs. Lois Sickler, of the Home Front Editorial staff, saved the unmailed newsletters that were used for this book. Each chapter represents an issue of the monthly newsletter. Each chapter begins with the "War News" of that month to see what people read in the news. Each newsletter contains "News of the Servicemen," which was the news provided by the servicemen or their families. Then the column of "Local News," about the people in Spring Creek, we have a period of two half-year look at the town's people and events detail. I have also created a name index that will significantly aid anyone looking up family names with more than a thousand instances of people's names. It has been 76 years since the last issue of the newsletter was published. The people in the newsletters have mostly passed. The newsletters get browner by the day, and even the WW2 memorial in Spring Creek is gone now. It is time to print them again to be enjoyed by another generation of readers and honor the service members from Spring Creek.

I thought I had left gardening behind, with my previous life. However, it came back to me this Spring season to interpret life, living and loving of humanity in the great garden. In five moments, I weave thought in verses and paint emotions in colors of gardens. First, a visit to Sorrows of the past, where I shed "Tears of Yesterday". Second, departing from painful past to hide under "Covers of greens" and granted the past due forgiveness.Third movement, "Budding for Tomorrow", life picks up with Signs of Promise. Fourth movement is in deep understanding of what we see in the season of "Conspicuous forms". Sights that bring to any soul -healing beauty of flowers. Fifth movement paints the "Emphatic Glow". Worshiping the eternal. This masquerades in blooming presence surrounding us.Spring Tides volume of 50 poems brings us to appreciate and heal in nature!
Spring Outbreak
This book is a poetry and prose anthology of the best entries from some of teacher, Brett Ramseyer's students at Hart High School, Hart, Michigan. In an effort to continue remote education for his students during the unprecedented cancellation of the 2020 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Brett Ramseyer encouraged his students to write with gratitude, creativity, and with a quest for excellence in order to cope with their mixed feelings about missing three months of their education amidst social distancing, isolation, and the trials of this century's worst and most precipitous economic downturn. Their lives may forever be demarcated by before the Spring Outbreak and after. All proceeds from the publication and sale of this anthology will benefit United Way of Oceana County.
