Novel corona virus disease (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has been declared as pandemic by World Health Organization (WHO). The book mainly comprises of two parts. Part A represents brief prevalence of the disease. Part B represents the efforts of Pakistani researchers undertaken until April 17th, 2020 in the prospect of COVID-19. The greater onus lies on shoulders of the Governments, health care professionals, doctors, nurses, paramedic staff, scientists, researchers, pharmaceutical and other medical companies, philanthropists, and funding agencies to act timely and effectively in their prescribed domains to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most conventional dryers use random heating to dry diverse materials without considering their thermal sensitivity and energy requirements for drying. Eventually, excess energy consumption is necessary to attain a low-quality dried product. Proper heat and mass transfer modelling prior to designing a drying system for selected food materials can overcome these problems. Heat and Mass Transfer Modelling During Drying: Empirical to Multiscale Approaches extensively discusses the issue of predicting energy consumption in terms of heat and mass transfer simulation.A comprehensive mathematical model can help provide proper insight into the underlying transport phenomena within the materials during drying. However, drying of porous materials such as food is one of the most complex problems in the engineering field that is also multiscale in nature. From the modelling perspective, heat and mass transfer phenomena can be predicted using empirical to multiscale modelling. However, multiscale simulation methods can provide a comprehensive understanding of the physics of drying food materials.KEY FEATURESIncludes a detailed discussion on material properties that are relevant for drying phenomenaPresents an in-depth discussion on the underlying physics of drying using conceptual visual contentProvides appropriate formulation of mathematical modelling from empirical to multiscale approachesOffers numerical solution approaches to mathematical modelsPresents possible challenges of different modelling strategies and potential solutionsThe objective of this book is to discuss the implementation of different modelling techniques ranging from empirical to multiscale in order to understand heat and mass transfer phenomena that take place during drying of porous materials including foods, pharmaceutical products, paper, leather materials, and more.

This Hand Book represents an earnest effort to set forth practical, effective and substantial procedures used for the diagnosis of poultry disease of viral origin. The procedure outlines comprise the use of embryonated chicken eggs, laboratory birds and tissue culture techniques to grow poultry viruses, their identification, and detection of antibodies by various serological techniques, in addition, information on viruses, avian immune system, postmortem examination, sample collection, isolation units, production and handling of specific pathogen free chickens has been interwoven. The authors are indebted and thankful to (Late) Professor Dr. Rashid Ahmad Chaudhry, Principal, College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore (NOW UVAS, Lahore) for his valuable suggestions, kind counsel and continued support in the production of this manual. It is hoped that this manual will add into the professional knowledge of students of veterinary medicine both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, poultry pathologists, virologists and diagnosticians. The authors will appreciate comments for the improvement and better presentation of information in the next edition.Khalid Muneer ChaudhryMohammad Akram MuneerH.R.
