Geometric Mechanics - Part Ii: Rotating, Translating And Rolling (2nd Edition)
Featured in the recommended literature list for the International Society of Nonlinear Mathematical Physics: https://isnmp.de/Book-Reviews-and-Recommendations/See also GEOMETRIC MECHANICS — Part I: Dynamics and Symmetry (2nd Edition) This textbook introduces modern geometric mechanics to advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students in mathematics, physics and engineering. In particular, it explains the dynamics of rotating, spinning and rolling rigid bodies from a geometric viewpoint by formulating their solutions as coadjoint motions generated by Lie groups. The only prerequisites are linear algebra, multivariable calculus and some familiarity with Euler-Lagrange variational principles and canonical Poisson brackets in classical mechanics at the beginning undergraduate level. The book uses familiar concrete examples to explain variational calculus on tangent spaces of Lie groups. Through these examples, the student develops skills in performing computational manipulations, starting from vectors and matrices, working through the theory of quaternions to understand rotations, then transferring these skills to the computation of more abstract adjoint and coadjoint motions, Lie-Poisson Hamiltonian formulations, momentum maps and finally dynamics with nonholonomic constraints. The organisation of the first edition has been preserved in the second edition. However, the substance of the text has been rewritten throughout to improve the flow and to enrich the development of the material. Many worked examples of adjoint and coadjoint actions of Lie groups on smooth manifolds have also been added and the enhanced coursework examples have been expanded. The second edition is ideal for classroom use, student projects and self-study.

Darryl Telles's sexuality is as important to him as his passion for Tottenham Hotspur, yet like other gay football supporters, he has had to endure decades of abuse from homophobic fans. Homosexuality is still so reviled that there is not a single `out' gay player in the top four tiers of the Football League. This is the story.

What is the true underlying nature of reality and what is my place in it? Does my life have meaning, or am I a cosmic accident? Are the answers to these questions found in religion, or is science where the real enlightenment lies? Is it even possible to know? In this bewildering world of differing beliefs, what chance do I have of finding any genuine truth? And where do I even begin? With two words: question everything. In childhood, we are all like sponges, soaking up information without any critical thinking. As adults, how much of our worldview reflects beliefs and assumptions from those early years that we have never reassessed? Darryl Sloan steps outside of conventional wisdom and brings together a wealth of insight from the spheres of religion, philosophy, science, psychology, parapsychology and occultism. A highly unusual, but deeply rational and life-enriching truth emerges from this esoteric study.

Our planet, the Earth, is under threat, with potentially catastrophic consequences for ourselves and the other lifeforms it sustains. Yet Nature itself can still rescue us - with plants playing a pivotal role, in the countryside - and everywhere. In gardens and parks, plants are the mainstay of our relationship with the natural world, and we celebrate them for the pleasures they bring. However, that can be part of the problem: too often we value plants for their aesthetic qualities rather than the vital role they play in the ecology of the Earth. In Gardening in a Changing World Darryl Moore explores how gardens can be better for human beings and for all the other lifeforms that inhabit them. Recent developments in horticulture and plant science show us that we need to rethink our attitude to plants beyond purely aesthetic concerns, and to adopt more holistic approaches to how we design, inhabit and enjoy our gardens. He looks at the history of garden design, to show how we got to where we are today, and recommends ways of changing to new principles of sustainable ecological horticulture. This challenging and important new book will be essential reading for professionals and students of horticulture and garden and landscape design, as well as for anyone interested in making gardens part of the solution to the future of life on Earth.

They will be joined in November 2019 by Cunningham's latest graphic expose, Billionaires. A graphic milestone of investigative reporting, Cunningham's essays explode the lies, hoaxes and scams of popular science, debunking media myths and decoding some of today's most fiercely-debated issues: climate change, electroconvulsive therapy, the moon landing, the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccine, homeopathy, chiropractic, evolution, science denialism and fracking. Thoroughly researched and sourced, Cunningham's clear narrative, graphic lines and photographic illustration explain complicated and controversial issues with deceptive ease. Shortly available in a new flapped paperback edition, along with Cunningham's other best-selling books, Supercrash and Graphic Science.

From the very beginning, the blues has had a close connection with the LGBTQ community. There is a long and decorated history of so-called 'dirty blues' songs, stretching back beyond the earliest attempts to capture the blues on record. The 1920s and 30s saw the release of dozens of raunchy, bawdy blues recordings aimed at a knowing LGBTQ audience. Queer Blues tells the story of the pioneering LGBTQ composers and entertainers that wrote, performed and recorded these wonderfully outlandish, life-affirming songs and chronicles, including: Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Josephine Baker to Frankie 'Half-Pint' Jaxon and many more. This is the definitive account of the LGBTQ trailblazers of early blues and a fascinating consideration of the intersection between music and LGBTQ history, from the award-winning Darryl W. Bullock.

Joe Meek. Wayward genius; the British Phil Spector, the first producer to treat the recording studio as an instrument; head of one of the earliest independent record labels; creator of some of the most incredibly influential pop music ever, including 'Telstar', the first American number one single by a British band; and a man tormented by mental health issues and financial battles. He was all these and more, as author Darryl W. Bullock reveals through numerous original interviews with friends and colleagues in his compelling biography of the legendary producer. Love and Fury takes readers on a guided tour of Meek's fabled Holloway Road studio, examines the recordings issued during his lifetime, looks at the wealth of unreleased material he left behind - the legendary Tea Chest tapes, rumoured to include recordings by David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Ray Davies of the Kinks and others - and examines that events which ultimately led to murder and suicide.

Between 1966 and 1973, while Australian troops were fighting in Vietnam, some 300 conscripted teachers were quietly posted to Papua New Guinea. Colloquially known as 'Chalkies', their task was to raise the educational level of troops of the Pacific Islands Regiment in what turned out to be critical years leading up to the country's independence. Drawing on the recollections of more than 70 of those National Servicemen, Dr Darryl Dymock, a former Chalkie, tells the story of how these young teachers responded to the challenges of a life most of them never wanted or imagined for themselves, in an exotic land on Australia's doorstep. It's a unique tale of the good, the bad and the unexpected, told with flair and insight against the background of political developments of the day. 'An educational scheme which for magnitude, scope, intensity and enlightenment is without parallel in military history.' - Brigadier Ernest Gould

In 1999 Darryl W. Perry began a search for traditional values, which lead him down a path to the ideas of liberty. He tells the story in A Rebel's Journey: My Path to Liberty. "When you read stories about various persons paths to liberty, it's amazing how many of these people have been 'questioning authority' since they were barely out of diapers. A Rebel's Journey definitely puts Darryl Perry into this camp... where he stands out is in the very methodical way that he came to each conclusion on a subject of freedom. Sometimes it's funny, and sometimes I think it's crazy, but it's always authentic. This is a heartfelt memoir, but it's one with a point. And the point is: Anyone can find real freedom, no matter how winding the road is." Dr. Brian Sovryn, Sovryn Tech "The soft spoken journey of one of the most hardcore peace activists is a rational take on the everyday logic of anarchism. Darryl Perry sees the beauty of freedom. The reader sees his beautiful soul." Angela Keaton, Antiwar.com "It's sad that the world is getting so bad that yearning for freedom is a rebellious act. But, for those who do want to rebel against tyranny this book is an excellent start down that path." Jeff Berwick, The Dollar Vigilante
