Christian Psychotherapy in Context combines theology with the latest research in clinical psychology to equip mental health practitioners to meet the unique psychological and spiritual needs of Christian clients. Encouraging therapists to operate from within a Christian framework, the authors explore the intersection between a Christian worldview and clients’ emotional struggles, drawing from sources including both foundational theological texts and the “common factors” psychotherapy literature. Written collaboratively by two clinical psychologists, an academic psychologist, and a theologian, this book paves the way for psychotherapeutic practice that builds on Christian principles as the foundation, rather than merely adding them to treatment as an afterthought.

Nutrition for Health, Fitness and Sport uses a question-answer approach, which is convenient when you may have occasional short periods to study, such as riding a bus or during a lunch break. In addition, the questions are arranged in a logical sequence, the answer to one question often leading into the question that follows. Where appropriate, cross-referencing within the text is used to expand the discussion. No deep scientific background is needed for the chemical aspects of nutrition and energy expenditure, as these have been simplified. Instructors who use this book as a course text may add details of biochemistry as they feel necessary.

With the rapid growth of networking and high-computing power, the demand for large-scale and complex software systems has increased dramatically. Many of the software systems support or supplant human control of safety-critical systems such as flight control systems, space shuttle control systems, aircraft avionics control systems, robotics, patient monitoring systems, nuclear power plant control systems, and so on. Failure of safety-critical systems could result in great disasters and loss of human life. Therefore, software used for safety critical systems should preserve high assurance properties. In order to comply with high assurance properties, a safety-critical system often shares resources between multiple concurrently active computing agents and must meet rigid real-time constraints. However, concurrency and timing constraints make the development of a safety-critical system much more error prone and arduous. The correctness of software systems nowadays depends mainly on the work of testing and debugging. Testing and debugging involve the process of de tecting, locating, analyzing, isolating, and correcting suspected faults using the runtime information of a system. However, testing and debugging are not sufficient to prove the correctness of a safety-critical system. In contrast, static analysis is supported by formalisms to specify the system precisely. Formal verification methods are then applied to prove the logical correctness of the system with respect to the specification. Formal verifica tion gives us greater confidence that safety-critical systems meet the desired assurance properties in order to avoid disastrous consequences.

Belief in the Bible as God's authoritative revelation tohumanity forms the bedrock of the Christian faith, laying thegroundwork for nearly everything in the practice of theology. Forthe last 150 years or so, this doctrine has been put under themicroscope of the modern age, with focused attention-andcriticism-falling on three main subject areas: the authority ofScripture, the sufficiency of Scripture, and the interpretation ofScripture.Ancient Word, Changing Worlds tells the story of thesedevelopments in the doctrine of Scripture in the modern age, combining in one volume both narrative chapters and chaptersdevoted to primary source materials. This new genre of historicaltheology will appeal to general readers, who will be drawn in bythe book's prose style, and students, who will benefit fromfeatures like timelines, charts, explanations of key terms, andintroductions and explanatory notes for the primary sourcedocuments.

Aging is associated with an increased prevalence of several GI disorders, including those induced by drugs (eg, gastrointestinal bleeding caused by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), anorexia of aging, development of constipation, diarrhea or fecal incontinence, and postprandial hypotension. This issue addresses these disorders and discusses the current treatments for management of these patients. Specifically, articles focus on celiac disease, anorexia of aging, chronic constipation, fecal incontinence, neurogastrointestinal diseases, ischemic gut, and the pharmacology of commonly used GI drugs.

If you are one of the nearly 15 million women who suffer from incontinence, you no longer need to suffer in silence. Doctors Eric Rovner and Alan Wein, internationally known and respected urologists, tell you what you need to know to get this problem under control and reclaim a life free of the fear of having an "accident" in public. Because incontinence can be caused or aggravated by many different things, including medications, childbirth, hysterectomy, stress, bladder infections, fibroids, oestrogen loss, or diabetes, women of all ages are vulnerable. This practical and comprehensive guide explains all aspects of this problem, including the tests used to diagnose the various types of incontinence and the treatments, medications, recommended for each. There is also information to aid you in finding the right doctor, tips on how to best prepare for your first visit, and suggestions on what questions to ask. If surgery is necessary, you will also learn about each technique as well as its risk factors.
Pharmacy on a Bicycle; Innovative Solutions for Global Health and Poverty
Despite $21 billion spent on health-related projects, every year millions of people in poor countries die from diseases that are easy and inexpensive to prevent or cure. We know exactly what these people need, we just don't know how to get it to them effectively. People are dying not because we can't solve a medical problem but because we can't solve a logistics problem. The solution is a new kind of bottom-up health care that is delivered at the source. We need micro-clinics, micro-pharmacies, and micro-entrepreneurs located in the remote, hard-to-reach communities they serve. By building a new model that "scales down" to train and incentivize health care workers in their own villages and towns, we can create an army of health professionals who can prevent tragedy at a fraction of the cost of top-down bureaucratic programs. The key is to unleash the same forces of innovation and entrepreneurship that work in first-world business cultures, and to train, aid, and incubate health workers on site. The book is filled with practical solutions for governments, NGOs, and local and global businesses. It also contains examples of dozens of exemplary programs on the ground that are implementing these innovative solutions and saving lives.
Social Security Works For Everyone!

Social Security Works For Everyone!

Nancy J. Altman; Eric Kingson; David Cay Johnston

The New Press
2021
pokkari
Social Security expansion is back on the agenda, at a time when Americans need it more than ever—here's what it should look like (and why it matters to everyday people all over the country) “Altman and Kingson cut through the fog of calculated confusion and outright lies about Social Security.”—David Cay Johnston, Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist and author The COVID-19 crisis has pulled the curtain back on America's looming retirement income crisis, a fraying of the national community, and ever-worsening income inequality. Never before have so many people's livelihoods and futures been thrown into flux. Now more than ever, expanding Social Security is essential to addressing these challenges. Social Security Works for Everyone!, an evolution of the argument Nancy J. Altman and Eric R. Kingson made in their acclaimed first book, Social Security Works!, presents the case for expanding Social Security, explaining why monthly benefits need to be increased; why Americans need national paid family leave, sick leave, and long term care protections; and how we can pay for it all. Don't believe the nearly four-decade, billionaire-funded campaign to convince us that the program is destined to collapse. It isn't. At a time when growing numbers of Americans are seeing beyond the false choice between financial security for working people and financial security for the federal government, this book eloquently makes the case that universal programs that benefit all Americans (yes, even the rich) make our country stronger and our lives more secure. Social Security works because it embodies the best of American values—the ones that will allow Americans to obtain financial security and weather the next crisis.
