Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) is universally celebrated as one of the greatest artists of all time, yet iconic Renaissance creator was also a prolific and gifted poet. The verses collected here are primarily devoted to love and religion. Intense and passionate, the love poems focus on two figures: Tommaso de Cavalieri and Vittoria Colonna; with the sonnets and madrigals dedicated to de Cavalieri revealing a highly charged, homoerotic fervour - previously obscured in the original versions. Michelangelo's later religious poetry moves away from his earlier wordly concerns, while his letters provide a fasicnating insight into his fanily relations and day-to-day life as a working artist. The result is a revealing picture of one of the towering figures of the Renaissance.

Drawing on provocative new research into the psychological roots of prejudice, he shatters myths and ranges through Washington, Hollywood, Silicon Valley, and beyond to reveal the truth about the battles to come. In my book I explain how I had MY god which I put before everything in life, until I heard the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ at 165 mph. That god could propel me to speeds well in excess of what's normal for any everyday person. I had too often driven at speeds above 100 mph while living in The Southern Region of Europe. But on this particular day, as I raced down this lonely stretch of highway "schnell strasse" B-27. I would experience first hand for myself the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ, even as Apostle Paul experienced The Lord's voice on the road to Damascus. The Lord said unto me, at the point of 165 MPH, "You will Live the first half of YOUR life unto YOUR SELF, But the SECOND HALF you will LIVE unto ME "At this point things began to change in my life forever. After this it was like I entered into a strange new world. My life was turned upside down, it didn't make sense anymore. Things begin to happen, and I knew I had no control over the incidents which began to occur in my life. These things continued to happen up until the time the Lord sent an Angel to my apartment to tell me I had to prepare myself, for the Lord has a Great work for me to do. This was the first visit Since being called, I have been brought back in time to where Jesus was placed on the Cross with only his disciple John being there with the woman who bore him in the earth, as the chosen vessel, Mary. Also, since being called, Jesus had me brought into his presence in Heaven to stand beside him as he showed me my name written in the Lamb's Book of Life.It has taken me over 25 years to write this one book, full of great truths and unbelievable wonders that the normal mind can't began to understand, how much even being able to imagine such? As of the writing of this book, I have been walking with the Lord Jesus Christ for 34 years. All of It has truly been a continuing learning experience for me.

Islamism is a powerful political force in contemporary Turkey. But what are the roots of this ideology? This book provides an intellectual history of Islamism in Turkey, tracing the thought of key figures from the late Ottoman Empire to the contemporary period. Examining the works of Namik Kemal, Said Halim Pasa, Said Nursi, Ali Bulaç and others, the book puts these figures and their works in historical context, showing the origins of their ideas and how they changed as Turkey moved from a constitutional to an authoritarian and then more democratic political system, with democratic backsliding and rising authoritarianism today. Covering also the rise of Islamism as a political movement in the late 20th century, it provides important insight into the intellectual background of Islamism in contemporary Turkey under the rule of Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s AKP.

At the peak of his career in the 1950s, Montgomery Clift was the symbol of a very talented yet rebellious generation of movie stars. His acting combined the personal and the professional, and his seventeen movies show his superb craft and extraordinary sensitivity. Yet there was much more to his life than his talents as an actor--more than most people knew. This book is a biography of the extremely handsome, acutely intelligent, but tormented Montgomery Clift. His life has been described as "the longest suicide in the history of Hollywood," and this biography shows the accuracy of that description. It covers Clift's sheltered childhood, his discovery at the age of 12, the early critical acclaim that brought attention from such noted directors as Elia Kazan and Antoinette Perry, his development as a professional actor and work with many of Hollywood's greatest directors (including Kazan, Fred Zinneman, Alfred Hitchcock and John Huston), and the devastating car accident that disfigured his face and caused him to turn to drugs and alcohol. Throughout the book, attention is given to Clift's self-destructive personality--which created problems that even close friends like Elizabeth Taylor could not help him solve--and his closet homosexuality, which contributed to his intense insecurity. Richly illustrated.

Blessed with a natural beauty, Scotland-born actress Deborah Kerr (1921-2007) provided the cinema with memorable studies of English gentility. A star in British pictures before she was 21 and a Hollywood fixture from 1946 on, she projected a cool reserve and stoic nobility, often hinting at passion and insecurity beneath the surface. Frequently portraying selfless, sympathetic women, she was brilliant in such roles as Anna Leonowens in The King and I (1956). And in a fascinating departure from her normal range, her portrayal of the sexually frustrated Army wife in From Here to Eternity (1953) resulted in the screen's most famous "clinch"--the beach scene with Burt Lancaster. Though she never won an Academy Award despite six nominations, Deborah Kerr received an honorary Oscar in 1994.

For the first decade of her career Leigh appeared as the stereotypical "nice girl." She was cast opposite some of the industry's biggest names including Robert Mitchum in Holiday Affair, Stewart Granger in Scaramouche, James Stewart in The Naked Spur, and Charlton Heston in Touch of Evil. Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho supplied her most memorable role: Marion Crane, who is murdered before the picture is half over. The part earned Leigh an Academy Award nomination. From 1951 to 1962, Leigh was married to favorite co-star Tony Curtis. They had two daughters, Kelly and Jamie Lee Curtis, both of whom followed in their parents' professional footsteps. This book reveals and reflects upon Janet Leigh's life and career and also extensively analyzes her films and television appearances.

During his 40-year career, director-producer Anatole Litvak (1902-1974) made films of all genres in Russia, Germany, England, France and the United States. His rootless background was cited by critics lamenting his lack of consistent style, but it also added to his mystique as a chameleon-like realisateur. Litvak directed Hollywood greats like Edward G. Robinson, John Garfield, Kirk Douglas, Ingrid Bergman, Vivien Leigh, Sophia Loren, Anthony Perkins, Olivia de Havilland, Yul Brynner, Burt Lancaster, Barbara Stanwick and many others. He was twice nominated for Best Director by the Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences for The Snake Pit (1948) and for Decision Before Dawn (1951). These films--along with Mayerling (1936), Sorry, Wrong Number (1946) and Anastasia (1956)--are considered classics, but his pictures don't offer many clues about Litvak the man. Apart from passing references to his wartime service as combat documentarian, he never discussed his life in print, allowing only brief interviews relating exclusively to his work. This biography fills that void, providing the first detailed portrait of an artist described by film historian Richard Schickel as "an adept, adaptable and prolific man; the kind of director that Hollywood likes best."
