Road To Emmaus

One of the books God gifted me with the recognition of earning the Jaime Cardinal Sin Best Book Award in Spirituality is "THE ROAD TO EMMAUS". This book captured the events, right after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, when two of his disciples were walking back towards Emmaus. I researched many written works about this particular event on the road to Emmaus. I found out that numerous books and journals have been published and renowned speakers gave talks about it. Yet, none captures the powerful dialogue that took place between Jesus and the two disciples. As a writer, I can only dream of witnessing and hearing the exchange of words that passed between them. As a faithful follower, I yearn to be part of that group that walked towards Emmaus. What did they talk about? What could have I learned? Could it have changed who I am today? And then it happened. It was as if the Lord wanted me to make the walk with Him. I was along the road to Emmaus with Cleopas, and the other disciple when Jesus approached us. I was in awe seeing them. I listened as they talked. Their exchanges centered on a lot of things, how Jesus missed his friends, the painful beatings, the suffering of Mama Mary seeing her bear all the beatings, as she walk beside him as he falls several times with the heavy cross. Finally, seeing how his mother cried as they nailed him on the cross. Still, i did not hear any mention of why the Son of God had to suffer and die. As if reading my thoughts the Lord touched my shoulder, "What are you thinking about Rudy, you've been silent?" I did not know what to do. Her i am face to face with the Savior; did i have any right to speak at all? I looked at his eyes... as if urging me to speak... then softly I asked, "Why did you have to suffer and die?" ... Hear Jesus as your mind translates what you are reading to the sound of his voice. It is a different experience, an adventure of a lifetime, and more

Letters to Pope Francis: The Pope Who Came From The Ends Of The World

Even before we started on our pilgrimage, the idea that I should write about the experience, however that turned out, insinuated itself. I indulged the thought, allowing it to tantalize me with the promise of the challenge and ultimately, the joy and fulfilment that come at the end of every chase. Already I imagined what it would demand of me: copious notes, research, interviews, conceptualizing and planning the angle of approach - the whole enchilada. In other word - hard work and long hours - and lots of it. And of course, the sheer pleasure of doing it and the deep satisfaction when it is done. Initially, my intention was simply to share any meaningful event that might present itself any time during the religious journey; or even sketches of the more interesting members of the "Marian Pilgrims of Bishop Raul Martinez", as we felicitously called ourselves. We were after all visiting the very sites of Mama Mary's apparitions; some very remarkable things were bound to happen. Before we left on the pilgrimage, I had an intimate talk with Fr. Joe, my Spiritual Advisor, on the possible effects on a person who visits the apparition sites of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He said, "Rudy, the unfavourable press heaped upon the Church has caused some followers to move to other Christian congregations, or reject any form of organized religion, or worse, question the existence of God. "A personal spiritual encounter, which may include private revelation, is sometimes the best way to fortify oneself from the insidiousness of the attacks on the Church of Jesus Christ. The faithful who maintain an intimate relationship with the Lord are His Church. There seems to be a misconception that the doors, the windows, the pews, even the steeple on the roof, are the Church. "Rudy, you and I are the Church of Christ. We have a Magisterium under the leadership of the Pope to guide our teachings. Errors committed by the clergy in the interpretation of church teachings are put aright by the Magisterium. "It is unbelievable Rudy - the number of people who have been set on the road to a more intense relationship with Jesus Christ through the Blessed Mother," Fr. Joe concluded. I carried his words with me with guarded expectation of anything out of the ordinary. A more awe-inspiring sight cannot be seen than the thousands upon thousands of people who gathered to receive the blessing of the Bishop of Rome, Pope Francis. It was not rare to hear from those who had been in the self-same place during the watch of other popes that..."there was never this large a multitude." The magnetism of Pope Francis was incredible as it was palpable. My son Jun blurted: "Dad, as Pope Francis passed, he looked directly at me. He smiled and he waved." I heard the same comment from the other pilgrims. Yes, the new pope did make you feel that in the anonymity of that humongous throng, the running dialogue was only between him and you. We felt his love that day. And that day we fell in love with him. High expectations are in the air with Pope Francis. Everyone is waiting to see how his papacy will be defined. If his initial action of embracing the poverty of St. Francis is any portent, the winds of change that will bring the people closer to the Church are here. As our pilgrimage moved along, we discovered many things we never knew before, both positive and not so positive. All of Mama Mary's apparition sites teemed with thousands of pilgrims. But sadly, we saw the truth of the frequently repeated statement that the Church of Jesus Christ in Europe is dying. A perceptive lady in our group candidly remarked, "Churches here are museum for old people and holy saints." How true, especially the museum part. For weeks, I relived our experiences in my mind, the good memories clashing with the not-so-good. What my dear friend John said kept interrupting my thoughts: "Rudy, I no longer believe in any form of organized religion." Here is where my pilgrimage began.

'In this remarkably well-written text, the authors introduce readers gently to the conceptual bricks of LQG without using any mathematics (quite an achievement). The debate started with the discovery that the space-time geometry of general relativity can be written in terms of the electromagnetic field. This led to intersecting graphs called loops. Now known as spin networks, they are the foundations of LQG. This slender volume discusses applications of LQG to black holes and cosmology and introduces the notion of spin foam, acknowledging that as yet the theory, though elegant, has no experimental confirmation … This book offers a fascinating introduction to an esoteric realm otherwise accessible to only a fortunate few.Summing Up: Highly recommended. Upper-division undergraduates. Graduate students and faculty researchers.'CHOICEChoice Outstanding Academic Title for 2020Loop quantum gravity is one of the main contenders to unify Einstein's general theory of relativity and quantum mechanics, therefore providing a quantum theory of gravity. If these words do not mean much to you, do not worry, we will define them in simple terms. This book describes loop quantum gravity and its applications to cosmology, black holes and spin foams without using formulas. It is concise and has a light style that makes for easy reading yet covering many of the cutting-edge developments in the field. It also addresses some of the controversies that surround these topics as they are incomplete science.

What is consciousness? Does free will exist? There exists a widespread conviction that the recent scientific discoveries, especially those related to physics and biology, in particular in contemporary neurosciences, question the traditional attempts to give meaning to life and a basis for our moral compass. Current scientific thinking usually identifies the mind with the mere exchange of electrical signals among neurons. It claims that consciousness is an irrelevant epiphenomenon and that introspection is an unreliable instrument to achieve any form of knowledge. Also, that the physical universe is causally closed and therefore all that occurs only has physical causes and all kind of freedom is excluded. The problem of assigning meaning and purpose to our lives, to the essential conceptions of the value of human life and social justice, becomes practically insoluble if one accepts the predominant notions that supposedly stem from contemporary science. The clash between the scientific and humanistic conception of human beings seems to have no option but to abandon the latter. The aim of this book is to show that, contrary to what is usually considered, current advances in science allow to re-evaluate the role of consciousness and human freedom without entering into contradiction with empirical evidence or scientific theories in place today. The book starts by analyzing the certainties provided by the scientific thought and philosophical reflection while discussing the role and content of physical theories, and in particular, quantum mechanics. It discusses in detail the nature of quantum objects and the role they may have in consciousness. In particular, it analyzes models that allow phenomena of quantum nature to manifest themselves in the brains of animals and humans, and account for many of the properties of consciousness. Finally, we analyze how self-conscious and free entities like persons emerge, making compatible the scientific view with a renewed and better supported way of perceiving people, their values and culture.

Since its founding in 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations has been an increasingly large part of the life of Southeast Asia, although most people in the region know very little about it. ASEAN has helped bring peace and stability to the region. It has successfully engaged the world's major powers, in East Asia and beyond. ASEAN has taken steps to integrate the regional economy as an important means of cooperatively improving the region's competitiveness, attracting investments, generating jobs, raising incomes, and lowering costs and prices. ASEAN has also formed networks for dealing with regional problems like communicable diseases, environmental degradation, and transnational crime. An essential part of the ""Southeast Asia Background Series"", this book seeks to shed some light on what ASEAN is all about.
