A lyrical reckoning with grief, power, and the beauty of resistance. This collection of short written works and poetry unfolds like an aria; layered, expressive, and unapologetically human. Through themes of loss, survivorhood, and the quiet violence of political and corporate systems, it challenges the beliefs we inherit and the norms we're expected to perform. Each piece is crafted with precision and wit, balancing raw emotion with creative defiance. These are not simply reflections on grief and control; they are bold gestures of reclamation. Infused with emotional precision and imaginative depth, the collection encourages readers to feel deeply, question boldly, and discover meaning in the tension between sorrow and resilience. It is a tribute to voice in all its forms-personal, political, poetic-and to the transformative force of language and expression.
Leggere l'Ecclesiaste. At the end of the twentieth century there is no agreement among scholars about how to read Ecclesiastes. Some read it as deeply pessimistic while others read it as an affirmation of joy. Ecclesiastes is thus a fertile site for an analysis of the hermeneutical issues impacting on biblical exegesis. This volume explores the interface of hermeneutics and biblical exegesis while keeping its focus on the reading of Ecclesiastes. Particular attention is paid to the development of the historical critical method in the context of modernity and its implications for the reading of Ecclesiastes. The postmodern turn in biblical interpretation is analysed in terms of the challenge it presents to historical criticism. It is argued in conclusion that Christian scholars ought to practice a biblical hermeneutic shaped integrally by a Christian perspective and the contours of such an approach are mapped out. From this perspective ecclesiastes is read as an ironie exposure of an empiricistic epistemology which seeks wisdom through personal experience and analysis alone.
The millimetre-wavelength region of the electromagnetic spectrum is increasingly exploited for a wide range of commercial, industrial, and military applications. Conventionally, this region is considered as lying "above" microwaves and "below" the infrared. Hence, in practice, millimetre-wave scientists have tended to pick and mix useful techniques on an empirical basis from both these areas. Millimetre-Wave Optics, Devices and Systems describes the fundamental physics of the quasi-optical techniques, devices, and system design for instruments processing millimetre-wave signals. Relevant ideas from Gaussian beam mode theory and antenna and transmission line theory are brought together to show the underlying unity of optics and electronics. Aimed at advanced undergraduates and postgraduates as well as millimetre-wave, laser optics, antenna, and microwave engineers, this book will also be of interest to manufacturers of millimetre-wave and microwave equipment.
Using the quantum approach to the subject of atomic physics, this text keeps the mathematics to the minimum needed for a clear and comprehensive understanding of the material. Beginning with an introduction and treatment of atomic structure, the book goes on to deal with quantum mechanics, atomic spectra and the theory of interaction between atoms and radiation. Continuing to more complex atoms and atomic structure in general, the book concludes with a treatment of quantum optics. Appendices deal with Rutherford scattering, calculation of spin-orbit energy, derivation of the Einstein B coefficient, the Pauli Exclusion Principle and the derivation of eigenstates in helium. The book should be of interest to undergraduate physics students at intermediate and advanced level and also to those on materials science and chemistry courses.
The first of two volumes of the classified Air Historical Branch study of Fighter Command and the Air Defence of the United Kingdom. It covers pre-war expansion of the Command, the creation of the first integrated air defence system, and an account of Dunkirk and the Battle of Britain.

This is the second volume of the classified history of air defence in Great Britain. Written while World War II was still being fought, the account has an analysis of the defensive tactics of Fighter Command, and attempts a day-by-day analysis of the action as it took place.
Information technology is arguably the most important scientific topic needed for understanding and participating in our increasingly complex technological world. Using simple physical arguments and extensive examples, Information and Measurement, Second Edition shows how this theory can be put into practice. Twice awarded the UK National Metrology Prize by the National Physical Laboratory for his outstanding contributions to measurement science and technology, the author includes the basic mathematical, physical, and engineering concepts required, illustrating their interrelationship in a clear, concise manner. The broad coverage includes topics taught in a variety of courses. This book will be an invaluable study aid for senior undergraduate and graduate students in physics, electrical engineering, and computer science, specifically studying instrumentation, measurement science, and information science. It will also be a useful reference for practicing scientists and engineers.
Research into equine artificial insemination has recently expanded with increasing horse numbers, the developing leisure interest in horse riding and the realisation of the economic advantages of artificial insemination. This book provides a detailed reference book on the subject and covers its historical development, relevant equine physiology, current practices and future possibilities. It is extensively referenced to allow further reading into specialised areas.
