Journey to the Rainbow's End

Journey to the Rainbow's End

Forrest Robert Stepnowski

pokkari
Forrest Robert Stepnowski captures the essence of "coming out" and coming of age as a gay male today, and over the past three decades. "Journey to the Rainbow's End" captures the joys of love, the pain of heartbreak, surviving the darkness of suicide, and the self-discovery of finding one's voice and place in society. Forrest Robert Stepnowski is a community advocate, a writer, a social worker, and a female impersonator, known as Victoria Eyesli, in the Pacific Northwest. He has been writing poetic works and prose for many years, and focuses on empowering others who have dealt with similar pathways of self-hate, self-deprecation, and self-loathing, in the hopes they can find they are not alone, that they are not deviants, nor are they against "human nature." We all have voices, and the world should hear them all.
Unvaccinated: Why growing numbers of parents are choosing natural immunity for their children
Why are more parents choosing natural immunity for their children? When I first heard that people were purposefully not vaccinating their children, I was shocked. Vaccines have been described as the most incredible medical invention of all time-a miracle of science and technology that has saved the lives of untold millions. I couldn't believe that seemingly intelligent, educated parents were purposefully foregoing vaccines for their children, and in fact, were so convinced these medical procedures were harming us, they would go out of their way to try to convince others. When a close friend of mine told me that his infant child was going to be unvaccinated, I thought he was completely insane. After much coaxing, he convinced me to do my own research and challenge him on his beliefs. A few months later, I had read things about vaccines and disease that I had never heard before. Things that no one-including our pediatrician-had ever mentioned. I was convinced there was a giant conspiracy to try and discredit vaccines, but after diving headfirst into recent scientific research seldom mentioned in the news, I eventually came to believe much differently about vaccines and the diseases they are supposed to protect us from. This short book will take you along the same journey I made as I transitioned from a dedicated vaccinating parent to someone who now questions whether any vaccines are actually worth the risk, even in third world countries. It barely scratches the surface of this, the greatest debate of our time, but if nothing else, will give you a clear idea as to why an increasing number of parents are raising their children unvaccinated.
The Case for Christian Preparedness - Faith and Prepping for Survival
Should Christians prepare for the worst? Isn't that one of the big questions we all face? If we have our faith in God, shouldn't we trust Him to take care of us? Where is the line between faith and prudence anyway? Just what does God expect of us? Does the Bible actually talk about any of this? Yes, it does God knows the dangers that we face and He knows what we should do about it. He is not blind to our needs. We can see the balance between doing our part and trusting in Him in His Word. It doesn't have to be one or the other; it can, and should, be both. God has a plan for our lives and He will get us through, but we have to do it in faith. That doesn't just mean trusting Him to take care of us, but also doing what He tells us to do. The great "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11 is filled with people who trusted God, doing what He said to do. It falls to you and me to walk in the footsteps of those giants of the faith and do what God tells us to. Find out what God says about all this, in this powerful insightful book. You'll see Biblical examples, along with practical faith, which can show you what you need to do, so that you can ensure that your family will be taken care of when everything else goes wrong. This Book discusses the following: The Case for Christian PreparednessWhy Christians Should PrepareWhat Does the Bible Say About Prepping?Stockpiling, the Beginning of All PreppingPractical Skills to Help You SurviveFaith, Our Most Important Prep
Black, White and Brown: The Battle for Progress in 1950s Norfolk
Two movements make the 1950s in Norfolk, Virginia so remarkable: the voracious local attack upon urban blight, and the ferocious state resistance to desegregation in its public schools. One of the first cities in the United States to initiate large-scale postwar redevelopment efforts, Norfolk was also a chief battleground in Virginia for court-ordered school desegregation. Norfolk native Forrest R. "Hap" White shows how Norfolk, and other Southern cities, used the powers of redevelopment and city planning to not only reshape the aging Southern port city for the twentieth century, but also to resist and delay social progress, and specifically the public school desegregation ordered by the Supreme Court's 1954 ruling in Brown vs. Board of Education. There are heroes, too. Forces for progress, including many private citizens both black and white, the "Norfolk 17," the N.A.A.C.P., the Virginian-Pilot newspaper, the federal courts system, and the U.S. Navy, fought to eventually reverse the Massive Resistance school closings that were Virginia's response to Brown.

In this dazzling collection of miniature tales and poetic prose, Forrest Roth presents six galleries of enigmatic humans drifting across great distances for our consideration, including a suburban neighbor cooking only beets to distract his dark impulses, a detached mother whose child vanishes in an art museum, a lonely Japanese man using his nose to sign letters to his married lover, and many more. Hovering over themes of nature, family, joy, desire and death, Skeletal Lights from Afar carries along the remnants of accidental lives, continuing their mysterious voyage towards a destination as yet unknown. In Skeletal Lights from Afar, Forrest Roth's language forms murmurations, each pulsing with interiorities of struggling narrators whose experiences unfold into one another, reflecting infinite impossibilities of a life lived in service of and service to. Roth asks us to think about our relationship to art, duty, the environment, love, strangers, music, and the frailty of human certainty. There are rumbles of Marcus' The Age of Wire and String and Dostoyevsky's Notes from Underground echoing with each strike of Roth's approach; it is as if the work exists in three spheres, the experience of the past, the relevance of the present, and the narrative methodology of a time not yet seen. Skeletal Lights from Afar is a bold artistic vision, one you may not be able to put down until you've read it to completion and begun again. - Duncan Barlow, author of A Dog Between Us and The City, AwakeDear Reader, you will never have read anything quite like the luminous Skeletal Lights from Afar, I can promise you that. Within these pieces, you are on a journey through startlingly fresh and exciting territory, which leads you through the natural world, the intellectual world, the small town, and the small room. Within these pieces there is humor and artfulness, but more than that even there is an examination of what it means to feel alone and observational in an ever crowded world. A master of voice, Roth's words become a ghost voice implanted in your psyche which remains long after you reach the end, offering you birds and flesh and bone. Indeed, they offer you the cycle of life, children climbing into bed between their parents to reclaim that shining moment of safety that is so fleeting to the last breath that awaits us all. - Myfanwy Collins, author of I Am Holding Your Hand and EcholocationReading this new book by Forrest Roth, I kept thinking, "Here is an original voice." Not exactly microfictions or prose poems, they blur those distinctions with meditation and observation and intellect, yet retain movement enough to sustain the tension of story. Forrest Roth has produced an accessible, yet challenging collection that will find an audience. - Gary Fincke, author of The Corridors of Longing and The SorrowsEach of these magnificently strange pieces is a world in itself. Together they create a shimmering matrix of expression, insistent as a dream that won't let go. - Dawn Raffel, author of The Strange Case of Dr. Couney and In the Year of Long Division

Most Americans are unaware that there is a constant threat from countless enemies around the world who would love nothing more than to bring America to an end. Scrutinizing these enemies are agencies such as the National Security Agency (NSA), Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the Department of Defense (DoD). Unless we are directly employed by one of these agencies, we may be completely oblivious to the seriousness of these threats which hope to destroy our freedom, our culture and our American way of life.It is an unfortunate but absolute necessity for America to resist and fight her adversaries in order to perpetuate her existence. America's resistance to these foes is what guarantees our human rights, safety and freedom. It would be ideal if no enemies existed and the earth was actually a peaceful place to live, but that is not reality at this point in history. The reality is such that America must continue to stand guard if future generations wish to reap the benefits of what the United States of America has to offer them because history has proven that a country can have human rights and freedom stripped away without a military made up of millions of individual countrymen and women who are willing to sacrifice life, limb and mind in order to uphold the security that protects the freedoms that America was founded on.

IEE provides a comprehensive 9-step system that CEOs, presidents, general managers, executives, managers, leaders, practitioners, and others can use to resolve elephant-in-the-room management issues such as: Business goals not being metScorecards leading to harmful, if not destructive, behaviorsPersistent day-to-day firefighting problemsBusiness strategies that are very generic and difficult to translate to organizational work environmentsLean events and other improvement projects can consume many resources but often do not offer a quantifiable benefit to the whole business.Lean Six Sigma process improvement deployments that have improvement projects, which are either not completed in a timely fashion or which make substantial financial claims that are questionableThis book offers an easy-to-understand book-character dialog on implementing Deming's management philosophy and delivering a system for managing the needs of ISO 9000, Baldrige award criteria, and Shingo Prize criteria all at one time through the IEE business management system.

This book continues the novel format story initiated in Management 2.0: Discovery of Integrated Enterprise Excellence. Both practitioners and managers can gain much from the concepts described in this book. This book provides an easy-to-understand character dialog on how to implement Deming's management philosophy and deliver a system for managing the needs of ISO 9000, Baldrige award criteria, and Shingo Prize criteria all at one time through the Integrated Enterprise Excellence (IEE) business management system. Provided in this book are the implementation details for IEE. The 9-step IEE system offers much flexibility, including an effective means to manage an organization remotely. During his wife's City Hospital recovery from an automobile accident, Jorge recollects the benefits that were achieved from his Harris Hospital's IEE business management system implementation.During one of Jorge's recollections, Janice Davis, Harris Hospital's CEO, initially stated that her organization had issues with the achievement of all of Ron's listed Effective Management Attributes. Janice now says she is amazed at how IEE provides a system-thinking leadership approach for the realization of all these sound management qualities: Effective Management AttributesExecutive Performance Management Reviews- Require minimal preparation resources.- Provide productive dialog that results in whole-enterprise benefits.Decision-making Process- Incorporates a blend of analytics and innovative team-thinking. - Avoids gut-based decisions.Strategies - Are achieved in a timely fashion. - Don't fall off people's plates because of day-to-day crises.Scorecard Reporting- Is consistent across the organization.- Has clear actions or non-actions to be undertaken from these reports. - Encourages fire prevention, and risk management.Organizational Improvement Efforts- Give focus to analytically-determined, targeted business areas so that there will be big-picture benefits. An additional recollection by Jorge: Janice also likes how the Enterprise Performance Reporting System (EPRS) IEE-system software provides, among other things, a vehicle for the automatic updating of IEE's predictive performance metrics, where this measurement reporting has a structured integration with the processes that created them. She also appreciates the IEE's enterprise improvement plan (EIP) approach for determining and then executing improvement efforts, which enhance operational performance metrics so that the organization's overall finances benefit. IEE applies to non-profits, schools, for-profit orgs. & governments.

This book is about personal goal setting for one's journey as they incorporate fly fishing into their lives for what will hopefully be a very rich life. Many are the outdoor sports books that describe technique, location, and such. I have not seen any about goal setting. There are no techniques or methods included, only suggestions for many pursuits relative to the fly-fishing lifestyle that the reader could include in life to keep interest in fly fishing at times when not actually fishing.

In an age of military neoliberalism, social movements and center-Left coalition governments have advanced across South America, sparking hope for radical change in a period otherwise characterized by regressive imperial and anti-imperial politics. Nowhere do the limits and possibilities of popular advance stand out as they do in Bolivia, the most heavily indigenous country in the Americas.Revolutionary Horizons traces the rise to power of Evo Morales's new administration, whose announced goals are to end imperial domination and internal colonialism through nationalization of the country's oil and gas reserves, and to forge a new system of political representation. In doing so, Hylton and Thomson provide an excavation of Andean revolution, whose successive layers of historical sedimentation comprise the subsoil, loam, landscape, and vistas for current political struggles in Bolivia. Revolutionary Horizons offers a unique and timely window onto the challenges faced by Morales's government and by the South American continent alike.

Colombia is the least understood of Latin American countries. Its human tragedy, which features terrifying levels of kidnapping, homicide and extortion, is generally ignored or exploited. In this urgent new work Forrest Hylton, who has extensive first-hand experience of living and working in Colombia, explores its history of 150 years of political conflict, characterized by radical-popular mobilization and reactionary repression.Evil Hour in Colombia shows how patterns of political conflict, from the mid-nineteenth century to today's guerilla narco-traffickers and paramilitaries, explain the wear currently destroying Colombian lives, property, communities and territory. In doing so, it traces how Colombia's "coffee capitalism" gave way to the cattle and cocaine republic of the 1980s, and how land, wealth and power have been steadily accumulated by the light-skinned top of the social pyramid through a brutal combination of terror, expropriation and economic depression.

The author’s training as a geologist influences the themes and forms of the poems and the single essay in this book. Often his poetic forms are determined by rock characteristics, even when the concerns of the poem are intensely human. For instance, a poem about a set of perceived relationships at twilight from the Crystal section titled “yellow quartz” breaks into six lines and references the passage of light because quartz crystals are pellucid and hexagonal. In another sequence, “Line of Descent,” sharply shifting lines of poetry enact the cutbacks and bends of the path into the Grand Canyon by which father and son descend through lines of sediment and lines of story along the bloodline that ties them together. Without calling attention to themselves, such forms underpin the strong emotional terrain upon which all the poems, whether focused on erotic love, fatherhood, the histories of empire, or the dialogue between scientific rationalism and poetic imagination, are situated. With an eye toward what we stand on literally, Gander concentrates our attention toward what we stand on and for in our various relationships with others and with the world
