Crime-busting fiction Four action-packed stories Two connected stories give opposing views on an attempt to steal the prize from a solitaire tournament. John L. French's "No Virtue in Patience" tells the tale of how the thieves' plan to do it while Aaron Rosenberg's "No Patience for Fools" tells it from the detectives' point of view. Which side will you root for? The cops or the crooks? In "Broken Doll", by Quintin Peterson, P.I. Luther Kane has one more task to close a case, then his client, one-legged streetwalker Gypsy Kurylenko, would be free ... and in "Give Them a Corpse" Part 2 by Rich Harvey, The Domino Lady prowls the Broadway streets, hunting a shapely pornographer who could disrupt New York City's democracy.
What you are holding in your hand is a compilation of poetry written during the stage of my life that I now call, "going through the olive press". Sometimes God will allow us to go through many heartaches, hurts, pains, trials, and disappointments; "Those Trying Times", when He appears to withdraw from our lives just when we seem to need Him the most. Jesus had to go through his own type of "olive press" in the Garden of Gethsemane to bring out the potential placed on the inside of him. Sometimes we must also endure similar types of sufferings and hardships in order to give birth to the promises that are planted inside each one of us. If there was ever a time in your life when you have wrestled with angels about ministry, money, marriage, or maybe even just struggled within your own mind- I'm sure that you will relate to these words. This poetry was written to encourage people who truly want to please God. People who are serious about their salvation, but who are being constantly battered, bruised, and broken while walking around bleeding in their spirit because they are constantly trying to worship the Father over their wounds. I pray that these words will somehow minister to your heart, and soul; maybe even drawing you closer to the healing power of God's Holy Spirit- who just so happens to be the one who is in control of "The Press".

John L. Junkins, PhD, Distinguished Professor and Member of the NAE, has written this "professional advice" book for young and mid-career engineering professors. This book provides no-nonsense mentoring that will help professors achieve success and happiness while performing well the expected volume of teaching, research, scholarship, and winning grants. Dr. Junkins has performed these functions well for four decades, directed the research of over 50 PhD students, published 7 books, several patents and 400 other publications; he has served as Principal Investigator for $40M of research. Over 20 of his offspring are successful professors. Known as an excellent mentor, his advice is derived from first-hand experience and surveys of colleagues. He conveys many practical insights that will help you achieve a productive professional career and a happy personal life. Statistical data provided on successful associate and full professor promotions will help set goals and calibrate your performance.
The study of volcano-ice interactions, or 'glaciovolcanism', is a field experiencing exponential growth. This comprehensive volume presents a discussion of the distinctive processes and characteristics of glaciovolcanic eruptions, their products, and landforms, with reference to both terrestrial and Mars occurrences. Supported by abundant diagrams and photos from the authors' extensive collections, this book outlines where eruptions have occurred and will occur in the future on Earth, the resulting hazards that are unique to volcano-ice interactions, and how the deposits are used to unravel planetary palaeoclimatic histories. It has a practical focus on lithofacies, glaciovolcanic edifice morphometry and construction, and applications to palaeoenvironmental studies. Providing the first global summary of past and current work, this book also identifies those areas in need of further research, making this an ideal reference for academic researchers and postgraduate students, in the fields of volcanology, glaciology, planetary science and palaeoenvironmental studies.
Analytical mechanics is a set of mathematical tools used to describe a wide range of physical systems, both in classical mechanics and beyond. It offers a powerful and elegant alternative to Newtonian mechanics; however it can be challenging to learn due to its high degree of mathematical complexity. Designed to offer a more intuitive guide to this abstract topic, this guide explains the mathematical theory underlying analytical mechanics; helping students to formulate, solve and interpret complex problems using these analytical tools. Each chapter begins with an example of a physical system to illustrate the theoretical steps to be developed in that chapter, and ends with a set of exercises to further develop students' understanding. The book presents the fundamentals of the subject in depth before extending the theory to more elaborate systems, and includes a further reading section to ensure that this is an accessible companion to all standard textbooks.
Originally published in 1943, this book presents the content of the Frazer Lecture in Social Anthropology for that year, which was delivered by John L. Myres at Cambridge University. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in anthropology and Mediterranean culture.
From unemployment to Brexit to climate change, capitalism is in trouble and ill-prepared to cope with the challenges of the coming decades. How did we get here? While contemporary economists and policymakers tend to ignore the political and social dimensions of capitalism, some of the great economists of the past - Adam Smith, Friedrich List, John Maynard Keynes, Joseph Schumpeter, Karl Polanyi and Albert Hirschman - did not make the same mistake. Leveraging their insights, sociologists John L. Campbell and John A. Hall trace the historical development of capitalism as a social, political, and economic system throughout the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. They draw comparisons across eras and around the globe to show that there is no inevitable logic of capitalism. Rather, capitalism's performance depends on the strength of nation-states, the social cohesion of capitalist societies, and the stability of the international system - three things that are in short supply today.
