Fleetwood Mac On Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac On Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac was a triumph from the beginning-their first album was the UK's bestselling album of 1968. After some low points-when founder Peter Green left, some fans felt that the band continuing was sacrilege-Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined, and the band's 1977 album Rumours became one of history's immortals, a true classic that remained in the charts for years and public affection forever. In the press, the ethereal Californian Stevie Nicks, the tormented rocker Lindsey Buckingham, the dignified English rose Christine McVie, the blunt-speaking John McVie, and the loquacious Mick Fleetwood have all regularly been astoundingly candid. This collection of interviews across the entirety of Fleetwood Mac's career features articles from such celebrated publications as Crawdaddy, New Musical Express, Circus, Creem, Mojo, Goldmine, Classic Rock, Blender, and Elle, as well as interviews that have never previously appeared in print. In it, readers will learn the Fleetwood Mac story from the band members' own mouths, and experience it contemporaneously rather than through hindsight.

Fleetwood Mac is one of the most successful bands of all time. Despite a long and complicated history, the band has survived dysfunction on a scale that would see many others implode, and remains a perennial favourite across generations. Formed in London, in 1967 by guitarist Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood and guitarist Jeremy Spencer, Fleetwood Mac started life as a British blues band. Core member John McVie joined the line-up for their self-titled debut album, and then in 1970, McVie's wife Christine Perfect joined as a keyboardist and vocalist. Following further line-up changes, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined in 1975, giving the band a more melodic rock-pop sound, and bringing global success, most notably with Rumours (1977); to date it has sold more than forty million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time. Fleetwood Mac: Everywhere charts the band's remarkable journey from club-based blues band to global superstars, concluding with the tragic death of Christine McVie in late 2022. Illustrated throughout, this definitive book is a must-have celebration of one of the most enduring acts in rock music history.

Music fans tend to divide into two camps at the mention of Fleetwood Mac. There are those who think of the multi-million-selling five-piece that formed in the mid-1970s and released Rumours, the biggest selling album of all time. But there are those who adopt a self-appointed 'cooler' stance, preferring the late-sixties blues band fronted by the virtuosic guitarist Peter Green. But that's not the whole story. Between May 1970, when Green left his own band to be replaced by the bass player's wife, to the beginning of 1975, when Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, there were five years of what can only be described as turmoil. One by one, talented musicians such as Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Bob Weston and Bob Welch joined and left the band. While it's impossible to ignore the skill and longevity such classic songs as 'Rhiannon' and 'Don't Stop' and albums Fleetwood Mac, Rumours and Tusk, there are an equal number of half-forgotten classic songs from the first half of the 1970s and many deep album cuts that have been overlooked. Here is the story of Fleetwood Mac in the 1970s - the music, the people, the tours, the rumours, the failures and the successes.

Out of the dozen different line-ups since Fleetwood Mac formed in 1967, there's only one incarnation that truly matters for most listeners. During their time together, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham created some of popular music's most enduring records, including 1977's Rumours. Written and recorded as multiple relationships within the band were collapsing, the landmark album became a worldwide hit that still attracts new fans. Disbanding might have been the rational response to the turmoil surrounding the making of that album, but they continued touring and recording even as tensions within the group continued to accumulate. Although Fleetwood Mac only recorded two albums together in the 1980s, four of the five members released solo albums that brought their individual contributions to the band into focus. After the group splintered in the late-1980s, it took a request from a US President to fix it, if only temporarily. The underlying tension between the band members' individual and group efforts - the truth that they worked best together but could only do so for limited periods - continues to the present day and reflects that even more so than the 1970s, the 1980s were the pivotal decade for Fleetwood Mac.

Finding Mac – a journey of adoption, love and lossModern families come together in all sorts of ways – one parent, two parents; same sex, opposite sex; planned, unplanned; biological, adopted. There are examples of different sorts of families all around us.Finding Mac tells the story of how one family came together, as Richard and his wife Swee welcome eight-year-old Mac into their lives. It recounts the highs and lows as they get to know and love each other and become a successful family unit. Along the way it shares their experience of adoption, and particularly the experience of adopting an older child. From joining a local school, figuring out your family’s new traditions, going on holiday for the first time, and navigating the bureaucracy of the social care system. But all that changed when Mac was killed on his motorbike, just a few months after his sixteenth birthday. Finding Mac deals honestly with the feelings of a parent who faces the death of his child, and coping with the aftermath. This is a warm and life-affirming account, honest but never whimsical. Despite some of the difficult subjects, this memoir is overwhelmingly positive and a tribute to love.

When food tastes like mud, smells like trash, and feels like mush, what's a hungry dinosaur to do? Pickysaurus Mac is not your typical dinosaur. Mealtimes pose a special problem for our picky little friend. Sometimes foods smell too gross to eat, they taste different than they look, and their textures feel like garbage in his mouth. His friends tell him to eat right to stay healthy but some things you just can't fix with words. Will Pickysaurus Mac ever find something he likes? Children with Sensory Processing Disorder, or SPD, must learn to navigate the crossed sensory receptors between their senses and their brain. Symptoms span a wide range, between being oversensitive or under-sensitive to stimulation of any or all of their senses. Foods pose a particular problem in the SPD child. Learning to tolerate textures, smells, and tastes sometimes makes mealtimes traumatic. "Pickysauraus Mac is a must for sensory-challenged children, their parents and teachers. Using colorful graphics and lilting rhyme, Pickysuarus demonstrates the challenges and difficulties of those with Sensory Processing Disorder. A recently recognized neurological disorder, SPD responds to behavioral therapies designed to build tolerance to discomfort created by the condition. While not "curable," those with SPD are able to lead healthy, full, and productive lives. "Children (and teens) long to be part of the crowd and not feel different or left out. Learning of a delightful dinosaur experiencing the same anti-food struggles lets the SPD child know they are not alone. Pickysaurus Mac provides insight to their condition and establishes the need for change while validating the child's distress. An excellent resource for the child and their caregiver. Pickysaurus promotes acceptance and understanding of a complex and demanding disorder." Julie Cox, MS

Mademoiselle Bambù is Pierre Mac Orlan’s take on the spy novel, written and expanded between 1932 and 1966. Set in Hamburg, London, Palermo, Brest and other ports of call in the anxious Europe of the 1920s and 1930s, Mademoiselle Bambù tells the tales of three secret agents: the melancholic adventurer and accidental spy, Captain Hartmann; his enigmatic mistress from Naples (and a double agent for the Germans), Signorina Bambù; and the sinister Père Barbançon, who retires from his life of espionage and murder to eke out his troubled days in an aptly named “Boarding House of Usher,” where shadows are as likely to strangle a man as they are to haunt him. Like all of Mac Orlan’s novels, Mademoiselle Bambù is less a novel than a barometer of societal unease, crippling melancholy and dark humor. Pierre Mac Orlan (1882–1970) was a prolific writer of absurdist tales, adventure novels, flagellation erotica and essays, as well as the composer of a trove of songs made famous by the likes of Juliette Gréco. A member of both the Académie Goncourt and the Collège de ’Pataphysique, Mac Orlan was admired by everyone from Raymond Queneau and Boris Vian to André Malraux and Guy Debord.
