This work, Shared Water Resources in West Africa: Relevance and Application of the UN Watercourses and UNECE Water Conventions, addresses the question of whether riparian states in West Africa need to be parties to both the UN Watercourses Convention and the UNECE Water Convention, both of which have influenced current water regimes in the region. The initial transboundary water instruments in the region dealt primarily with navigation, later agreements addressed the need for cooperation, while recent regimes incorporate other principles of international water law articulated in the UN water treaties. Although only six out of its numerous shared watercourses are currently regulated by legal instruments, West Africa contributed through these agreements to the development of international water prior to the adoption of the UN Watercourses and the UNECE Water Conventions in the 1990s.

Shared water resources in South Asia face various challenges including scarcity, population growth, and climate change impacts on all the riparians. Consequently, national calls for water security have become louder. As a result, collaboration among the nations of South Asia for ensuring equitable sharing of such water resources has not been optimal. While most countries do not have reliable systems for data generation, those possessing some hydrological data consider them state secrets, restricting their exchange. Even when treaty obligations exist, data-sharing practices are ad hoc, and the range of information shared is limited. Thus, negotiating new transboundary water treaties amongst South Asia’s riparian countries has become a daunting task, and enforcing existing ones remains a real challenge.
Shared Scripture - Divided Faiths: The Medieval Jewish-Christian Encounter Over the Hebrew Bible / Old Testament
This work explores the ambivalent and often troublesome relationship that Jews and Christians had in the Middle Ages, focusing specifically on scriptural exegesis. While the shared scriptural tradition of Jews and Christians could lead to mutual understanding and rapprochement, it also inspired sharp polemic on the "right" interpretation of those same Scriptures. Even the exact text of those shared Scriptures was hard to agree on. The essays in this volume show that the meaning of Scripture is not self-evident; it is created within a faith community. The result was a lively discussion on the meaning of Scripture between Jews and Christians. Sharp polemic and cross-fertilization occurred simultaneously. The essays in this volume will add new details and perspectives to the rich tradition of scholarship on this topic, and, in some cases, will even challenge its parameters. Contributors are Deeana Copeland Klepper, Robert A. Harris, Franklin T. Harkins, G rge Hasselhoff, Johannes Heil, Daniel Joslyn-Siemiatkoski, Christopher Ocker, Judith Olszowy-Schlanger, Devorah Schoenfeld, Boyd Taylor Coolman, and Frans van Liere.

Shared Living: Interior Design for Rented and Shared Spaces
In the current housing market, with more people moving to cities than ever before, those who live with roommates are no longer exclusively recent college graduates with clashing decorating senses and mismatched furniture. For many, it is perfectly normal to share a house or an apartment with other adults in order to save money, without sacrificing personal style in the home. Shared Living offers design examples for people who seek a sophisticated look in their shared space. Featuring roommates who are getting it right, this book delves into homes around the world where cohabitants have found savvy ways of decorating together. A restored storage unit in Brooklyn is now home to two creative brothers; a house in Silver Lake, Los Angeles, is decorated with an eclectic mix of old and new (including an original Matisse ); and a small London apartment merges bold colors with clusters of collectables to achieve domestic harmony. Through each stage of shared living--from finding a place to merging styles-- this book offers practical advice and tips for DIY styling, such as how to upcycle furniture or scour flea markets for unique finds. It is the essential resource for roommates seeking inspiration for their home.

Faith-based community organizers have spent decades working for greater equality in American society, and more recently have become significant players in shaping health care, finance, and immigration reform at the highest levels of government. In A Shared Future, Richard L. Wood and Brad R. Fulton draw on a new national study of community organizing coalitions and in-depth interviews of key leaders in this field to show how faith-based organizing is creatively navigating the competing aspirations of America's universalist and multiculturalist democratic ideals, even as it confronts three demons bedeviling American politics: economic inequality, federal policy paralysis, and racial inequity. With a broad view of the entire field and a distinct empirical focus on the PICO National Network, Wood and Fulton's analysis illuminates the tensions, struggles, and deep rewards that come with pursuing racial equity within a social change organization and in society. Ultimately, A Shared Future offers a vision for how we might build a future that embodies the ethical democracy of the best American dreams.

Binational cities play a pivotal role in situations of long-term conflict, and few places have been more marked by the tension between intimate proximity and visceral hostility than Jaffa, one of the "mixed towns" of Israel/Palestine. In this nuanced ethnographic and historical study, Daniel Monterescu argues that such places challenge our assumptions about cities and nationalism, calling into question the Israeli state's policy of maintaining homogeneous, segregated, and ethnically stable spaces. Analyzing everyday interactions, life stories, and histories of violence, he reveals the politics of gentrification and the circumstantial coalitions that define the city. Drawing on key theorists in anthropology, sociology, urban studies, and political science, he outlines a new relational theory of sociality and spatiality.
