But they cannot keep it from him indefinitely, and once he has the book's power, the destruction he can inflict will be limited only by his imagination. In this fantasy novel, a powerful, evil mage searches for a tome that will grant him vast power and make him invincible-while others seek to thwart him and keep the world safe.
The Great Betrayal

In the view of many contemporary scholars, both Jesus and Judaism have been misrepresented by the church for the past two thousand years. Their main point is that Judaism was not a superficial, rigid, and outdated religion, and Jesus did not reject it. In fact, along with his disciples, he remained a Law-abiding Jew his entire life. However, as Christianity developed from a Jewish sect in the first century AD to the official religion of the Roman Empire in the fourth century, the church was transformed, Jesus was redefined, and both Jews and their religion were repudiated and marginalized. In short, both Christians and Jews were deeply affected by what many scholars now call the de-Judaization of Jesus. This book is an attempt to correct the traditional theological and scholarly misinterpretations of Jesus and Judaism that emerged over the first four centuries of the life of the church. ""I've read many of the best accounts of what happened between the Jews and the Christians in the early centuries of this millennium. It's in many ways a sad story, one full of rivalry and misapprehensions, deliberate obfuscations, and serial attempts to revise the story of Jesus and the Jews. The long and short, as Sheldon Liebman admirably shows in this brilliant and beautifully written study, is that our image of Jesus was permanently reconstructed in ways at odds with historical realities. I would recommend The Great Betrayal to anyone who hopes to come to a clear understanding of this critical moment in history."" --Jay Parini, D. E. Axinn Professor of English and Creative Writing at Middlebury College, author of Jesus: The Human Face of God ""Sheldon W. Liebman provides a clear and cogent account of one of the most remarkable developments in the world's religious history: the transformation of a small movement within Second Temple Judaism into the official religion of the Roman Empire. Properly historical in its method, and responsible in its recourse to critical literature, The Great Betrayal challenges Christian supersessionism while remaining sensitive to the theological creativity of the New Testament and of Patristic thought."" --Bruce Chilton, Bernard Iddings Bell Professor of Philosophy and Religion, and Director of the Institute of Advanced Theology at Bard College Sheldon W. Liebman is professor emeritus and former chair of the Humanities Department at Wilbur Wright College. Among his thirty-plus scholarly publications are an article in the Oxford University Encyclopedia of American Literature, an essay in Harold Bloom's Nathaniel Hawthorne, and a study of The Picture of Dorian Gray in the Norton Critical Edition of that novel. He received a PhD in English from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972.

A Practical Guide to Fundraising for Small Museums
A Practical Guide to Fundraising for Small Museums: Maximizing the Marketing-Development Connection turns the traditional development program on its ears, as it starts with the needs of donors rather than the needs of the organization. Just like marketing for other goods and services, museums must begin with aligning their products with their audiences. Then they can develop fund strategies that keep their audiences in mind. While the book covers traditional strategies (such as membership and events), it approaches them from a new point of view and provides tips and sample ideas all along the way for small and mid-sized museums to implement a successful development plan. Complete with sample forms, this book is a must-have for every museum development professional, volunteer, and student who wants to succeed.

Our nation is rocked by ideological divisions threatening both the work of educators and the core of our democracy. Individuals and groups are attacking public education and implementing policies antithetical to education in a democratic society. They seek to impose their own beliefs upon students and educational institutions by censoring materials, ideas, and practices they find objectionable. They promote intolerance through exclusionary and discriminatory policies and practices concerning persons of different racial, ethnic, religious, national origin, gender, or political identities. They advocate abandoning discussion of culture and identity—despite their importance to student success—to ensure that preferential consideration continues for the prevailing culture. And they close off open dialogue and scrutiny of factual evidence, instead imposing their own agendas. In doing so, they politicize education, bring partisanship into the classroom, promote indoctrination, and undermine education’s democratic goals. At their best, public schools are an anathema to indoctrination and authoritarianism because they bring a wide range of perspectives into the classroom and teach students to think independently. A democratic and pluralistic society requires that individuals honor and respect differences in identities and beliefs, endorse the pursuit of truth through examination of factual evidence, and participate in open dialogue to resolve issues of difference. Education in a democratic society must support the development of these attitudes, skills, and values in young people. Yet our nation’s culture wars are being fomented by those who have a contradictory vision of American education. The current times call on each of us to understand what is at risk and to summon the courage to stand up for the pursuit of justice, equity, and a meaningful democracy. But how do we develop and express that personal courage to support schools in promoting respect for diversity and inclusivity, enhancing children’s well-being and social-emotional development, affirming the goals of equitable access and opportunity for all, and providing students with the knowledge and skills to sustain and strengthen our democratic society? At the state and local levels, how do we change the culture of educational endeavors from divisive to collaborative? This book is a clarion call to parents, educators, students, community members, and education leaders to take courageous action in response to the current threats. To support these individuals in bravely choosing to stand up and speak out, The Call to Courage shares the stories and strategies of others who are boldly and publicly embracing that very challenge.
