Long before Harry Potter and friends went to Hogwarts, kids have been curious about magic. Children of all ages have always wanted to know what is the real story behind The Craft, Charmed, halloween--and do spells really work? But unlike the library at Hogwarts, there are not many text books on the subject, at least not for kids. Here at last is the primer 12 - 16 year olds have been waiting for. In To Be a Young Witch Suisaidh Ceandach presents the pagan paths, druidry and wicca in an introductory manner, for the serious student interested in learning the path of the wise-craft. The text is interspersed with short stories to further illustrate the pagan wheel of the year and natural magic in today's daily life and yes, there is also guidance to spells and ritual.

In March of 1985 Mikhail Gorbachev came to power in the Seviet Union. Initially, one could discern serious changes in the policy and statements of this new, young, and obviously efficient leader only with great difficulty. While abroad, Gorbachev had said that anti-Stalinism was a form of anti-Communism. The newspapers were filled with words lauding "the sacred traditions of the 1930's". At the same time, the campaign against drunkenness, corruption, and sloppiness launched by Yuri Andropov was given a new impetus and the highest Party support. In April, 1986, the Chernobyl tragedy took place. The first reaction of the Soviet authorities was the usual one. The Soviet public was not properly informed about the disaster and its unprecedented peril. Millions of jubilant Soviet citizens crowded the squares and streets of Kiev and Minsk during the May Day festivities. We can only guess what the reaction of the Kremlin authorities would have been had not Swedish scientists traced and announced to the world the threatening level of radioactivity. Would the terms "glasnost'" and "perestrojka" have spread through the world press with such intensity and alacrity? A popular Soviet author wrote a year later in the Soviet media: "Chernobyl appeared to be not only a national event, a disaster shared by each of us, but also a dividing line between two eras of time.

Mostly fictional, these short stories are all based on true events.
To be seen and not heard
She is used in reference to the writer, the previous version of herself. I, is used in reference to who she is now, or who she identified with during that time. Her is often used in reference to the female figures within her life, the figures they used to be and the representations of the parts of themselves that were the darkest and, at times, the lightest influencers for she. Scattered within are poems, written throughout her childhood. Little snapshots into her child voice during those times. She has written for most of her life and finds comfort in her ability to expel as much poison as possible through the written word. Read on about a girl who, for whatever reason, was never fully accepted or loved in the ways she needed, never able to fit within a category or gain an overall sense of belonging, regardless of how far and wide she searched. This story is not linear; it is messy and, at times, may be hard to follow. The timelines do not add up and it is not until the very last word, that all the pieces of the puzzle make sense and an overall understanding is gained. This is deliberate. This is a physical representation of the life in which she has lived and continues to. Come take this staggered journey within a story full of twists and turns. A PTSD episode structured piece that depicts lived experiences through the eyes of someone living each day with trauma. Come witness life through the eyes of her parent with PTSD and the effects that had on her, the child who never understood why she couldn't be loved like the other children, why she grew up to not be appreciated and seen for the adult she was, and the fights held to gain the respect and love she deserved.

Our protagonist learns that life is full of challenges, especially in the nature of the transition from one culture to the next as a marginalized 'other'. To be or not to be is an analysis of linguistic, cultural, political, economic and social factors, which explain the intricate root causes of conflicts which have ravished Sudan. It stands in stark contrast to the dominant simplification and distortions which have come to typify presentations of the region.
