This book is very personal to me, as the essence is derived from the various thoughts and experiences had throughout my life. It is a collection of my poetry, short stories, and random thoughts. This book is intended to be very simple and easy to follow. A short background will be provided, followed by my creative translation. Keep in mind that most of these pieces were written between the ages of 17-20. It is written from the vantage point of an African-American man born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. As you can imagine, some of the experiences were not so positive. However, despite the challenges of growing up in the inner-city, I was able to push through on the journey to a more prosperous life.Hopefully you will have an appreciation for the experiences contained herein, and possibly even relate to a few. At a minimum, you will gain a perspective on what it was like for me growing up in New York.At the end, I will share a short biography. Which will give credence to the phrase, "A diamond in the rough."

Free in Name Only: A Behavioral-Historical Revisitation of the Attempted Ethnic Cleansing of Memphis in 1866
"On May 3, 1866 46 blacks were killed in Memphis, Tennessee by white mobs made up largely of Irish residents on the city's south side. Some historians have reduced this blood bath to a "race riot" and suggested that a black soldier's gun fire provoked the attack. With verve, candor, and a steely eye for detail, Memphis native son Torrance Stephens provides a nuanced revision that grounds these sordid events in a much larger history of the South's defeat during the Civil War, the persistence of white supremacy and the problem of the Negro in the post-bellum United States." When man first walked the earth, he noticed and studied the birds, bats, insects, etc. and it's logical that he attempted to emulate these beautiful, wild, flying creatures by attaching feathers to his arms and flapping them. People in legends and fairytales have always been able to magically fly and ancient Chinese, Persians, Romans, Arabs, monks, scholars, warriors and craftsmen have all tried to build flying machines. History has shown that humans couldn't fly by flapping: not with wings covering their arms or using any other device at the time. It wasn't until the 1930s when Alexander Lippisch and the NSFK (National Socialist Flying Corps) in Germany constructed and successfully flew a series of internal-combustion-powered ornithopters, using Hargrave's concept of small flapping wings, but with aerodynamic improvements resulting from methodical study.
