I take seriously what Ezra Pound said, "make poetry new." I do not want to write like anyone else, if that's possible. I want to create new forms of poetry. Sure, I have been influenced by many writers who write differently than I do, whether it is in style, theme, or topics, but I respect all forms and styles of poetry. I am experimenting all the time. Each time I write, it is as if it is my first time, like I have not done it before. The poem, and the way it is put together, becomes the object I am writing about as well as the subject. The way the poem is written is part of its meaning. All of it, I feel, comes from a deep and original, and yet common, place. I write to try to understand myself and the world and to question the things we just assume to be true, but mostly I write to remember the brightness of being alive.
Why Me? Who hasn't said that at one time or another? We all say 'why me' in certain situations or when we are experiencing certain emotions. The Y-Mee doll, introduced to the world in August 2008, was the first in a line of products that attempts to help in those 'why me' moments. Now, Y-Mee's wisdom has been written in a book that goes farther in helping those in 'why me' situations. Y-Mee's A-B-C Book of Emotions takes a tongue in cheek look at various emotions from A=Angry to Z=Zealous and everything in between. Each letter and each emotion gives a unique definition and a plan of action to deal with whatever the emotion may be. Y-Mee's are standing beside each letter to provide support, guidance and a smile. Y-Mee's A-B-C Book of Emotions is a short book, designed to be small, informative, and helpful yet full of humor.

Angel J. Storm
Ashes to Beauty
2018
sidottu
This year-long devotional starts at a point (A) and was created to help guide you to the next point in your journey (B). Your journey from A to B will likely not be a straight line, smooth and paved. It will circle issues more than once, you'll take a few detours and even a few steps back. I pray you will trust God enough to know that while it might look like stagnation on the outside, you are actually going higher and deeper on the inside. Only in the Kingdom is that kind of directional trajectory possible Your spiritual quest with God doesn't end in a year, but it is my hope that you will not finish the book (or the year ) at the same place. No matter where you are in life - if you're on the mountain or in the valley - the journey isn't over. Learning how to continuously press forward is one of the most powerful mindsets and motivation I hope to impart in this book.
Point A to Point B: The Life and Times of an Accidental Uber Driver
James MacFarlane
Life Times

It was the summer of 2016. The most expensive forest fire in US history raged in the remote tourist destination of Big Sur, California. The author, who is hyper-allergic to smoke, was forced to evacuate. Unable to wander far from home due to business interests, James Macfarlane fled from one Central California community to another, dodging fast breaking wildfires like raindrops. With a dwindling pocketbook and an aged car that died while in exodus, James had to come up with a plan. It took the form of a new car and an application to drive for the popular ride sharing service Uber. Over the next four months James gave over a thousand rides to fares ranging from the CEO of a billion dollar company, to a high-schooler who had missed the bus, to a baby-bag left in a restaurant by parents now a hundred miles away at the hotel (with a crying baby). Certified as an 'Uber Wine' driver, James also gave countless rides to fun seeking fares in California's fastest growing wine region. Out of the experience came a wealth of "Uber stories". This book is a collection of those stories. But it's more. The experience was part of a journey James was set on, with much humor and wisdom emerging during the odyssey. While driving, nearly every passenger wanted to hear an Uber story, and many in-turn provided one as the process called life unfolded adventure in after adventure and mishap after mishap, along with a number of heartwarming experiences. It is the eternal flow of stories, and people's interest in hearing of them, that sponsored "Uber James" to write this book.

Synopsis of Vocal Musick by A.B. Philo-Mus.
Ashgate Publishing Limited
2006
sidottu
Synopsis of Vocal Musick, by the unidentified A.B., was published in London in 1680 and appears to have only ever had one edition. Its relatively short shelf-life belies its importance to the history of early British music theory. Unlike other English theoretical writings of the period, the Synopsis derives many of its aspects from the continental theoretical tradition, including the first references in English theory to the modern fractional time signatures that had been invented in Italy in the mid-seventeenth century, the first references in English to compound time and the first explanations of tempo terms such as Adagio and Presto. In these respects the treatise forms an important link between English and continental theoretical traditions and may have encouraged the adoption of Italian principles which became a common feature of English writings by the early eighteenth century. The treatise is essentially in two parts. The first section of the book comprises rudimentary instruction on understanding notation and intervals, descriptions of common vocal ornaments and instruction in the process of learning to sing. The second part consists of a selection of psalms, songs and catches which are provided as exercises for the singer, though several of them require a reasonably advanced degree of skill. These pieces provide valuable insight into the way both sacred and secular music might have been performed by amateur musicians in the Restoration period. They include 14 rare English madrigal settings by the Italian composer Gastoldi - further evidence of the Italian influence which pervades the text. This is the first modern edition of the Synopsis, and indeed the first edition to appear since its original publication.

A.B. Simpson and the Making of Modern Evangelicalism
Daryn Henry
McGill-Queen's University Press

A shrewd synthesizer, gifted popularizer, and inspiring founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance movement, A.B. Simpson (1843-1919) was enmeshed in the most crucial threads of evangelical Christianity at the turn of the twentieth century. Daryn Henry presents Simpson's life and ministry as a vivid, fascinating, and paradigmatic study in evangelical religious culture, during a time when the conservative wing of the movement has often been overlooked. Simpson's ministry, Henry explains, fused the classic evangelical emphasis on revivalist conversion with the intensification of that sensibility in the quest for the deeper Christian life of holiness. Recovering the practice of divine healing, Simpson emphasized a dynamically empowered and supernaturally animated Christianity that would spill over into nascent Pentecostalism. His encouragement of cross-cultural missions was part of a trend that unleashed the dramatic rise of world Christianity across the Global South. All the while, his Biblical literalism, antagonism to modernist theology, campaigns against evolution, and views on premillennialism, Biblical prophecy, and the role of Israel in the end times made Simpson a precursor of the fundamentalist melees of subsequent decades. From his upbringing in rural Canada and confessional Scottish Presbyterianism, Simpson journeyed into the heart of American evangelicalism revolving around his base in New York City. Against most previous writing on Simpson, Henry's biography presents both continuities and discontinuities in the development of modern interdenominational evangelicalism out of the denominational evangelicalism of the nineteenth century.
