The compelling story spans both gritty and beautiful locations while making a jump from war-torn Europe to the supposedly peaceful American Northwest, all the while exposing the characters' personalities in ways that add proper depth to the story. Likable but not perfect heroes, and sinister yet understandable villains. And somehow Dave weaves in jeep or two. I can recommend this book without reservation; however, it opens fast and keeps moving, so you may want to plan for reading it straight through. This book will also make great movie material. (In a way, it reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest.) - Guy Kathe You know, I think this book is on par with most any well known author I've ever read, in fact it's much better than a lot of the Clive Cussler books. His stories are great but the banter between his characters sometimes is pretty unrealistic. - Bob Christy Amber panels........never would have picked up such a book in a bookstore.....skimmed thru it backwards and said...this is going to be boring. Not my cup of tea. Then.. I got bored and needed to read something...so I started in. Holy historical novel, batman, you have a HIT. Could NOT put it down. Another home run. David's Having Distractions is a humorous story of a nine-year-old boy who absolutely hates school. David, the main character, begins the story by explaining how different he is from the other kids in his class especially his rival Michael Hunter. He uses his strong wit and natural sarcastic nature to ensure the reader totally understands how he feels. Next, David takes the reader on a small journey into his home life. David comes from an upper-middle-class prestigious family. He likes to call them "The Perfects"- only David is not so perfect. He has an older sister, Emma, who is a bit of a "priss" and a younger brother, Aaden, who is absolutely adorable. His mom and dad are very stern parents, especially when it comes to school. This year David's class is competing with the rest of his elementary school for winners of this year's Fall Festival. If his class wins, they get to take a field trip to the local amusement park for a day of fun. Also, within each class, there is a competition to see which student has the best game for Fall Festival. David, unfortunately, has to host the worst game of all, Friggin Chicken, and his rival is hosting the game he really wants to host. Everyone in the entire school thinks this is the most awful game and teases David because he HAS to host this game. In order for David to not become the laughing stock of the entire school and beat Michael Hunter, he has to be creative and add his "own" special flare to Friggin Chicken. However, when he tries the entire game falls apart. So what can David do? How can he beat Michael Hunter and avoid becoming the laughing stock of the entire school? You'll have to read to find out

This collection of fifty-two sermons shows beloved New Testament scholar David Bartlett at his best. Bartlett, who died in 2017, spent his career teaching and mentoring preachers at The University of Chicago Divinity School, Yale Divinity School, Union Presbyterian Seminary, and Columbia Theological Seminary, as well as serving as a pastor in American Baptist churches.
