pokkari
This book explores the gender diversity of faculties at senior management level in public Nigerian universities. Data were collected through individual interviews and a focus group. The sample consisted of twenty male and female faculty at senior-management level in Nigerian public universities drawn from the four geographic regions of Nigeria, namely, North Central, South East, South South, and South West. Results revealed the existence of pronounced gender inequality and evidence of several factor constraints that contribute to the disproportionate representation of female and male faculty at the senior-management level in public Nigerian universities. These factors were highlighted in open, axial, and selective coding.

The stories of travel, hunting trips, boarding school, sickness, hardship, miracles, heartbreak, and joy will bless and inspire those needing encouragement. There are places where you will cry as the family faces sickness and hardship, and places you will laugh at things that can only happen in Africa. Throughout the book is woven a genuine Christian worldview of life on the mission field. The author takes you from language school in Kenya, to survival in socialist Tanzania, on to Sierra Leone, a country perched on the edge of civil war, then, finally down to prosperous, westernized Botswana.

International Teaching Assistants are (largely) Chinese, Indian, and Korean biology, chemistry, math, and physics graduate students in the U.S. and Canada who are supported by teaching undergraduate courses in their areas of study. In 2010, their numbers increased to 242,061 in the U.S. and they comprised 15.5% of all graduate students. Many undergraduate science, math, and engineering courses are taught by ITAs. Indeed, ITAs make undergraduate education possible, and as instructional faculty are active contributors to the learning of North American undergraduates. ITAs teach in English, which is often their second language. This presents formidable challenges for ITAs' ability to engage in sustained talk and communication as they explain difficult content and manage classrooms in an educational culture different from their own. Talking Matters authors take ITA research into new areas using new perspectives with the purpose of improving the communication skills of ITAs and undergraduates, thus enhancing undergraduate learning outcomes. The book:1. Showcases recent applied research on the professional talk and communication of ITAs, and their interactions with undergraduates. 2. Was developed for on-the-ground use by ITA educators, faculty members in academic departments, and other staff members charged with ITA support.3. Includes "In a Nutshell" sections which highlight action points that can be taken on the basis of each chapter's findings and recommendations.4. Provides photocopiable learning materials offered by chapter authors.

Written by an educator for educators of all levels, Reading Comprehension outlines concepts, skills, and strategies for educators to use to help students improve their levels of reading comprehension. It covers oral language, phonemic awareness, print concepts, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Each of these components are built upon each other, so the student will have an outstanding knowledge of the English language and will be able to use it fluently in various domains. This process maintains a Socratic dialogue between students and subjects, allowing neither to overwhelm the other. Such teaching paradigms press for mastery of content in ways that enable students to apply their learning and connect it to other knowledge as they develop proficient performances in their fields of study.Dr. Yvonne Simon was born on the island of Jamaica, where she received her primary and college education. She migrated to the United States and continued in the teaching profession. She attended the Nova Southeastern University in Florida, where she obtained her Bachelors of Science degree, Masters of Science degree, Specialist degree, and her Doctorate degree in education. Dr. Simon is a life time member of the following organizations, National Education Association, American Federation of Teachers, Phi Gamma Sigma of The Fischler School of Education, and Human Services Nova Southeastern University, National Black Ph.d., and Ed.d magazine.
Since its initial publication, this far-reaching reference has provided professionals and victims of abuse with guidance on everything from indicators of an abusive relationship to domestic violence legislation, from antiburnout tips for helpers to advice on leaving an abusive partner. This updated edition addresses new research and programs, adding information on date rape drugs, stalking, cyber-stalking, pregnancy and domestic violence, and the effectiveness of batterer intervention programs. Current controversial social and legal issues such as mutual battering, child welfare and "failure to protect" policies, child custody and visitation rights for batterers, mandatory arrests, and welfare reform are also covered. Two new chapters devote attention to domestic violence in the military and to the challenging and rewarding role of those who work with battered women and their children. New resources have been included to reflect the ever-evolving wealth of books, web sites, and agencies available to both helpers and those in need.
