This volume is the second in the series of final reports on the work of the Kavousi Project and the first volume on the cleaning (1982-1984) and excavations (1987-1992) at the mountain sites located above the modern village of Kavousi in eastern Crete. These sites, Vronda and the Kastro, shed light on the Early Iron Age, the transitional period in Cretan history known popularly as the Dark Ages, thereby elucidating the way of life of the people who lived in the area of Kavousi during that period and how their culture changed over time. Kavousi IIA is devoted to the excavation of material from the Late Minoan IIIC settlement at Vronda, particulary the houses on the summit of the Vronda ridge (Buildings A-B, C-D, J-K, and Q), along with earlier (Building P) and later (Building R) structures around them.
Broaching Race, Ethnicity, and Culture in the Counseling Process
Broaching Race, Ethnicity, and Culture During the Counseling Process identifies practical strategies and tools that help mental health providers facilitate discussions with their clients about the extent to which issues related to race, ethnicity, and culture impact their presenting concerns. Broaching refers to a counseling approach in which the mental health provider discusses the contextual dimensions of race, ethnicity, and culture during the counseling process. This book provides a conceptual framework and an empirically supported set of strategies for helping mental health providers skillfully navigate conversations that support clients in their exploration and examination about how issues of race, ethnicity, and culture may intrude upon their sociocultural and sociopolitical realities. Each chapter provides a detailed discussion of a specific component of the broaching framework, a review of relevant research that provides evidentiary warrants supporting the model, guidance about implementing the broaching model, case examples to illustrate how the broaching process can unfold, provider-client broaching dialogues, along with a set of discussion questions to support continued learning and skill development. Drawing on the theoretical and empirical multicultural counseling literature, this groundbreaking text integrates and synthesizes the existing broaching literature in ways that render the process of discussing race, ethnicity, and culture more concrete.

The recent focus on China's boom has obscured the fact that Japan is once again on the rise. How do we manage our growing, and crucial, interdependence? The answer lies in the legions of Japanese and American managers and officials involved in the day-to-day and face-to-face negotiations that drive commerce. Opportunities for U.S. companies in Japan remain strong if businesspeople can learn to conduct successful business negotiations with their counterparts. Yet a cultural misstep or tactical error in negotiating easily can mean the loss of an important contract or the potential for future business. In this invaluable book, three leading experts pool their decades of experience to provide a pragmatic guide for Westerners doing business in Japan. Using up-to-the-minute case studies, the authors explain Japanese culture and negotiating techniques and provide practical advice on conducting effective meetings with Japanese clients. Representing a unique combination of perspectives developed through international business practice, high-level diplomatic experience, and sophisticated academic research, the authors offer both Japanese and American perspectives to help readers cross the wide cultural gap that can unnecessarily divide businesspeople from both countries.

This collection features four peer-reviewed literature reviews on biodiversity management practices in agriculture. The first chapter reviews biodiversity management practices and benefits in Conservation Agriculture (CA) systems. After looking at the importance of soil microorganisms, the chapter looks at how CA systems contribute to soil biological activity, particularly the way cover crops and rotations, with a no-till regime, can enrich soil and the multitude or organisms living in it.The second chapter synthesizes and reviews the published information on grass hedges and their soil benefits, to better understand the potential of grass hedges for managing water erosion as well as improving soil health in agricultural lands. The third chapter reviews research on ways of modifying the agricultural landscape to reverse the decline in a range of fauna and flora. The chapter also reviews the characteristics and types of field margins, as well as their role in agroecosystems. The chapter concludes with a discussion on managing field margins to promote insect biodiversity and rare arable plant populations. The final chapter considers the impact of agricultural intensification on agricultural landscapes, farming systems and biodiversity. The chapter highlights how hedgerows can contribute to the multifunctionality of agroecosystems in intensively-managed agricultural landscapes, focussing on improved pest regulation and enhanced pollination services.
