In January 1921 DH Lawrence and his wife, Frieda, left their Taormina home in Sicily and set off on a nine-day excursion to and through Sardinia and back to Sicily via mainland Italy. At the end of the year 'Sea and Sardinia', Lawrence's fast-paced account of their journey, was published in New York by Thomas Seltzer. On the 13th May 1936 T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) was involved in a motorcycle crash. He was fatally injured and died six days later. His death has always been surrounded by controversy and many suspected an assassination. While his life has been well documented the crash has never been investigated in detail.
