Reminiscent of biblical stories, oral histories, and the work of Isaac Bashevis Singer, Luban's stories illuminate the history and the complexities of the Jewish experience, with settings in ancient Samaria, in Poland, in the concentration camps and in the settlements of the modern-day West Bank.
In this remarkable book, her fourth collection of poems, Marianne Boruch continues to explore the world around her with curiosity, wry humor, searching skepticism, and thoughtful tenderness. Her poems range widely, letting themselves be triggered, often, by quite ordinary events and people, in order to launch themselves into unpredictable questions and considerations.
This new collection features twenty-five new poems and a generous selection by the author from each of her four previous volumes - View from the Gazebo, Descendant. Moss Burning, and A Stick that Breaks and Breaks.

This book is dedicated to the Soviet Space Dogs, who played a crucial part in the Soviet Space programme. These homeless dogs, plucked from the streets of Moscow, were selected because they fitted the programme’s criteria: weighing no more than 7kg, measuring no more than 35cm in length, robust, photogenic and with a calm temperament. These characteristics enabled the dogs to withstand the extensive training that was needed to prepare them for suborbital, then for orbital space fights. On 3 November 1957, the dog Laika was the first Earth-born creature to enter space, making her instantly famous around the world. She did not return. Her death, a few hours after launching, transformed her into a legendary symbol of sacrifice. Two further strays, Belka and Strelka, were the first beings to make it back from space, and were swiftly immortalized in children’s books and cartoons. Images of the Space Dogs proliferated, reproduced on everyday goods across the Soviet Union: cigarette packets, tins of sweets, badges, stamps and postcards all bore their likeness. This book uses these unique items to illustrate the story (in fact and fiction) of how they became fairy-tale idols. Monuments now commemorate their pioneering role in conquering the ‘final frontier’: their heroism will never be forgotten.
Poetry and color illustrations describe the joys of becoming a grandparent.
Inspired by true events, Seventh Avenue Undressed is a suspenseful, provocative, and often hilarious bare-all on New York's Mob controlled fashion industry during the 1980s. This revealing expos , based on industry insiders' experiences and common scenarios that took place between clothing manufacturers and the Mafia, is a story never-before-told from the perspective of women in fashion. Cathy Callahan and her roommates Heather and Julie are launching design careers in New York's fashion industry and soon discover the Mafia is Seventh Avenue's silent partner. Unbeknownst to Cathy, she's working for a firm owned by a notorious Mafioso. Heather's boss shuts down his business because of constant wiseguy shakedowns, and Julie's boss tells her there's nothing wrong with murder. Putting their troubles aside, they party at Studio 54 and take summer shares in the Hamptons, where Cathy meets a Wall Street investment banker who helps launch her eponymous brand of eveningwear that puts her on the cover of Vogue. But when the Mob muscles its way into the business, the girls quickly learn how to handle their up-close and personal Mafia encounters with fortitude, street smarts, and much-needed comic relief.
Sometimes the most intriguing mysteries are those waiting to be unlocked within our own hearts... Meet Abbey Taft, successful magazine editor, single mother, casual lover of both women and men. Days are spent with driven focus: juggling a demanding career, raising a four-year-old daughter, caring for an elderly mother with Alzheimer's, befriending a wise and rather mystical nanny. Life progresses as planned, until an unforeseen and haunting experience sets Abbey to re-awakened explorations. Past, present and future collide, sending Abbey reeling with new and jagged questions of her own identity, fragmented family ties, a foggy emptiness decades' old, and the nearly forgotten potential that quietly beckons her forward.
