Plain Speaking: A Reporter's Conversations with President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair's Conversations with Wife Cheri
A satire that delves into many aspects of the political arena. When it became clear that President George W. Bush was intent on invading Iraq, and he found a close chum and obedient ally in Britain's former Prime Minister Tony Blair, what struck the author was the incongruity of their relationship. How could two people whose only similarity appeared to be their ability to see things that were not there, get on and understand one another so well? Mr. Blair, presumably to impress on us just how chummy they had become, kept saying they were "standing shoulder-to-shoulder", even when they were sitting opposite one another. Linehan was privileged to learn at first-hand what they talked about when they met and in their frequent telephone conversations. Also fortunate to be given an insight into how Mr. Blair reported their exchanges to his wife Cherie, it occurred to the author that notes published on what took place might throw some light on how they reached decisions by which we have all, to a greater or lesser extent, been affected.

"I never thought of it before, but that year must have been the biggest change in my life. In less than a year, I had changed from driving a 1927 Chev, or a four horse team in the field and a farm tractor from time to time, to what I was driving in England. They told us that the gun tractor with equipment cost $80,000 F.O.B. England. The ammo and gun which weighed seven tons they didn't say. Then there were ten men who depended on me to get them from point A to point B. And here I was, just a boy of nineteen." _____________________________________________________________ Observation Post is the eloquent narrative of a young man, son of Polish immigrants, who volunteered to serve in the Canadian Army during WWII. After the war, like the thousands of others who had also stepped forward to do what they felt they had to in those dark days, he spoke little of what had happened "over there". Years later, he was convinced that his family, and others perhaps, would like to know, and he started to write it all down. What emerged from scribblers filled by an initially hesitant hand is a moving and ground level account of what life was like for those who served. While this may be the story of only one young man and what he faced, it is also, in many ways, the opening of a portal for us to vicariously experience what all soldiers did and sacrificed for freedom, democracy and for strangers in far off countries who needed their help.
Opfer der weiblichen Sozialisation im 19. Jahrhundert. Tony Buddenbrook und Effi Briest
Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Germanistik, Note: 2,15, Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf, 40 Quellen im Literaturverzeichnis, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Theodor Fontane (1819 - 1898) und Thomas Mann (1875 - 1955) gehören zweifelsfrei zu den bekanntesten deutschen Romanautoren. Dabei erlangte Fontane seinen Ruhm erst recht spät.
Selected Papers, With Commentary, Of Tony Hilton Royle Skyrme
The most important papers of Tony Hilton Royle Skyrme are collected in this volume which also includes commentaries by G Brown and other articles relating to the life and work of Tony Skryme, R Dalitz, E Witten and others. Skyrme's work was brilliant, profound and surprisingly useful. He provided an original solution to the problem of constructing fermions from bosons, formulating the topological soliton model of the nucleon. His two-parameter model of effective interactions in nuclei has yielded a remarkably accurate description of nuclear structure. His a-particle model of nuclei gave deep insights into the structure of important and complicated excited states. This volume is a unique collection of Tony Skyrme's work. It is a must for all physicists in the high energy, nuclear and mathematical physics community.
Post-Marxism, Representation, and Resistance in Tony Kushner's Political Plays
The book is a study of the politics in Tony Kushner’s political plays as representing the New Left politics that speaks for the unrepresented or under-represented people. This book studies the complex and varied nuances of Kushner’s political thought that he has written into four of Kushner’s ‘political’ plays. Arnab Ray argues that Kushner’s work conveys the imminent ideological emptiness in the world as the millennium approached its end while simultaneously exemplifying the hope brought on by the turn of a new millennium. Thus, this book positions Kushner as a playwright of hope as he illumines a path that he thinks may lead to a better future. However, as Kushner himself has said, it is “a teleology, not a guarantee.” Ray argues that it is in Kushner’s post-Marxist Leftist political thought that the teleology lies.
How to Stage a Play, Make a Fortune, Win a Tony and Become a Theatrical Icon
Based on his own personal experiences, this concise handbook follows a director's journey from the casting process to opening night, revealing the hidden or unspoken aspects of play and stage production that are rarely, if ever, described. Marowitz discusses topics such as: rehearsals; characterization; blocking; tempo-rhythm; dramaturgy; and actor/audience psychology. Demystifying an art form that is often dealt with only in terms of concepts and ideology rather than the mundane, here are nitty-gritty nuts-and-bolts requirements of just "getting the show on the road."
