In August 1973 a movie exploded on the cinema screens - That movie was "Enter the Dragon" and introduced the west to one of the most iconic figures of modern day, that person is Bruce Lee.It was also to be Lee's last complete movie after his untimely death on July 20th 1973.Despite his death his life seemed to be documented in photographs, there are literally thousands of photos of Bruce both on and off screen.Enter the Dragon is no exception with over 12,000 photos being taken during the shoot.Enter the Dragon Vol 1 highlight's some of those photographs, depicting Bruce with his many facial expressions and lightening speed often to quick for the camera to capture. In this book we select many photos taken during the filming capturing Bruce Lee at his most dynamic and relaxed joking with the cast and crew.A truly wonderful collectors item for any Bruce Lee collector
Barbour's Bruce and its Cultural Contexts
Fresh approaches to one of the most important poems from medieval Scotland. John Barbour's Bruce, an account of the deeds of Robert I of Scotland (1306-29) and his companions during the so-called wars of independence between England and Scotland, is an important and complicated text. Composed c.1375 during the reign of Robert's grandson, Robert II, the first Stewart king of Scotland (1371-90), the poem represents the earliest surviving complete literary work of any length produced in "Inglis" in late medieval Scotland, andis usually regarded as the starting point for any worthwhile discussion of the language and literature of Early Scots. It has also been used as an essential "historical" source for the career and character of that iconic monarch Robert I. But its narrative defies easy categorisation, and has been variously interpreted as a romance, a verse history, an epic or a chivalric biography. This collection re-assesses the form and purpose of Barbour's great poem. It considers the poem from a variety of perspectives, re-examining the literary, historical, cultural and intellectual contexts in which it was produced, and offering important new insights. Steve Boardman is a Reader in History at the University of Edinburgh. Susan Foran, currently an independent scholar, researches chivalry, war and the idea of nation in late medieval historical writing. Contributors: Steve Boardman, Dauvit Broun, Michael Brown, Susan Foran, Chris Given-Wilson, Theo van Heijnsbergen, Rhiannon Purdie, Biörn Tjällén, Diana B. Tyson, Emily Wingfield.

Barbour's Bruce (c. 1375) is the oldest substantial piece of literature in Older Scots. It narrates in four-stress couplets the feats of Robert Bruce and his supporters, most notably James Douglas and Thomas Randolph. Their heroic activities, including battles against odds and clever out-manoeuvrings as well as open warfare, provide opportunities for discussion of good leadership, the celebration of freedom, and a construction of Scottishness alongside a narrative with enough verifiable historical detail to make it compelling and convincing. Barbour's narrative implicitly locates Bruce and Douglas against European traditions of the Nine Worthies, particularly Alexander, and shows a sophisticated sense of structure in the central placing of Bannockburn and Bruce's speech on freedom. This edition by McDiarmid and Stevenson, out of print for several years, is now reissued by the Scottish Text Society. In addition to the text, it provides a full introduction, notes and a glossary.

In 2007 Romany Mark Bruce, Irish-born lawyer and self-taught artist, was confronted by a stranger while walking his dog in Kemptown, Brighton. ‘I want a word with you,’ said the mysterious fellow, and walked off, without further explanation. Two days later, Romany received a follow-up email: would he consider mocking up a design for an AIDS Memorial statue, to be erected in the south-coast city? An open-call competition was underway: there were ten days left to enter. Having lost his dearest friend to the deadly virus, Romany – by then predominantly a painter, though with ten years sculpting experience behind him – wasted no time in making a decision, and making up a design. The rest is history, and his AIDS Memorial, dedicated to Paul Tay, is a poignant landmark much loved by Brighton residents. This monograph explores the life choices which have informed Romany’s artistic pathway, and analyses the sculptural techniques he employs in his thriving painting practice. Romany is, in his own words, ‘a sculptor who paints’; his work has been exhibited internationally, from France to Australia.

How can we interpret the work of contemporary artists? Focal Points is a new book series of essays, articles and reviews by acclaimed curator and critic Robert Storr. Expertly edited by art historian and curator Francesca Pietropaolo, and richly illustrated, it lends Storr’s illuminating insights into an artist’s practice and way of thinking across recent decades. Brilliantly scholarly, accessible and engaging, Focal Points offers fresh interpretations of the varied territory of modern and contemporary art. Through a selection of texts spanning from 1986 to 2016, volume one brings together thirty years of Storr’s writings on American artist Bruce Nauman (b.1941) whose practice encompasses sculpture, photography, neon, drawing, printmaking and performance. Much of Nauman’s work makes use of language games and visual puns, influenced by the linguistic theories of twentieth-century thinker Ludwig Wittgenstein and by the work of writer, poet and playwright Samuel Beckett. Describing his work in 1970, Nauman said: ‘Sometimes the activity involves making something, and sometimes the activity is the piece.’
The Power of Bruce Lee (Kung-Fu Monthly Archive Series) 2025 Re-issue Mono Edition
Bruce Lee was possibly the greatest exponent of the Chinese martial arts ever produced. The brightest star in a galaxy of martial artists, Lee blazed brilliantly over the worlds of motion pictures and martial arts until his death at the age of 32. His is familiar to millions, immortalised on celluloid, and iconified by his countless fans everywhere. Yet little has been recorded of the inner man, the iron will and ego which drove him to climb to the heady heights of public and technical acclaim. The fact that he was also an international movie star often clouds his enormous contribution to the field of martial arts. This radical departure from the sterility of many of the conventions inherent in formalised fighting techniques will remain his true epitaph.Originally released in 1979 by Kung-Fu Monthly, The Power of Bruce Lee explores many of Lee's revolutionary methods of attack and defence, especially those relating to Jeet Kune Do, Lee's own personal expression of martial arts and ferocious fighting system. For the first time in over forty years, The Power of Bruce Lee has been re-released by Pit Wheel Press as part of the Kung-Fu Monthly Archive Series, in co-operation with Dennis Publishing.
The Secret Art of Bruce Lee (Kung-Fu Monthly Archive Series 2022 Re-Issue) Mono
Originally released in 1976 by Kung-Fu Monthly, The Secret Art of Bruce Lee represented a milestone in the history of the martial arts. At the time of its publication, it was almost the sole surviving photographic record of Bruce Lee's martial arts, Jeet Kune Do, as demonstrated by Lee himself. After lying forgotten for more than a decade, the never-before-published photographs in this book were probably the finest illustration of his art that Bruce Lee left to us. To his countless fans and to the serious student their discovery is an exciting event. The accompanying text chronicles the development of Lee's art from its dog-eat-dog origins on the streets of Hong Kong to the perfection of techniques which only he really ever mastered. In addition, extended captions clarify sequential photographs, following through Lee's speciality kata, kicks, punches and weapon use. This action packed and important book is a unique, exclusive insight into the reality which lay behind Lee's reputation as the greatest martial artist of our time. For the first time in over forty years, The Secret Art of Bruce Lee has been re-released by Pit Wheel Press as part of the Kung-Fu Monthly Archive Series, in co-operation with Dennis Publishing. This edition has replaced ISBN 978-1-915414-07-6 which was discontinued due to dishonest and unreliable third party printers.

The latest Australian Biographical Monograph focuses on the formative years and political career of Stanley Melbourne Bruce to his defeat as Prime Minister in 1929. This period included winning a hotly contested by-election in Flinders in 1918, which brought with it the introduction of preferential voting; a short interlude on the back bench; one year as Treasurer in 1922-23; and then a period as Prime Minister from February 1923 until October 1929, when he was still in his forties. Bruce's career after 1929 was in many ways as distinguished as the period from 1918 to 1929. Notable in this second career after 1929 was his support for institutions such as the League of Nations and the Food and Agriculture Organization. The argument of this book is that the theme that connects Bruce's first period in Australian politics from 1918 until 1929 with his later career is that of institution building.

Into Nowhere: Bruce Springsteen and the Cold War Blues
Into Nowhere: Bruce Springsteen and The Cold War Blues, by Marilisa Merolla--an internationally renowned professor focusing on rock and roll music's impact on world history--investigates the role played by Springsteen as a “Born in the U.S.A.” sound ambassador and sheds light on the invisible trauma that affected the Cold War generation, a trauma he profoundly interpreted. The groundbreaking book threads two separate perspectives: one inspired by the psychological interpretation of the effects of the “Blues” on contemporary societies, and another anchored to the current debate among historians about music and international relations. The author uses these two separate threads to investigate the role played by Bruce Springsteen as an American “sound ambassador” outside the US, particularly in Europe; and sheds light on the invisible trauma that affected the Cold War generation. A trauma Bruce Springsteen interpreted, as a sort of “Born in the U.S.A” Dionysus. Through the lens of Springsteen’s Neapolitan roots and Italian heritage via his mother’s family, this book examines the diffusion of the Blues during fascist Italy, and goes deep into the impact of rock and roll music, from Elvis to Bruce, during the Cold War. Since World War II, the US Department of State had used jazz and the Blues as a “sonic weapon” to combat the perception of the US as a racist society. By the Fifties, rock and roll arrived in its raw version in the Mediterranean area through the U.S. soldiers at the Naples-based AFSouth (Allied Forces Southern Europe) Headquarters. Paradoxically, the military use of the Blues, now distilled in rock and roll, represented a double-edged sword which spread the seeds of the dark side of the American way of life among the youth. In the Sixties, with the upheaval of the Vietnam War, the split between the expectations of a more democratic and individualized society and a bipolar geopolitical order of an unexploded atomic war made the frustration of the youth even more unsolvable. From the Seventies to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Bruce Springsteen expressed the peculiar feeling of helplessness of so many people in Western society, offering a transnational Cold War generation a sense of connection. While giving an implicit, alchemical voice to different political identities, his music makes the “Nowhere” recognizable in a geopolitical entity drawn by the Blues. His darkness provides redemption through the genuine religious experience of rock and roll. The performance of a collective trauma. A path to healing from the Cold War Blues.
