Primitivo “Tibo” Mijares was Ferdinand Marcos’s prized “media czar” and chief propagandist until his defection in 1975. In 1972, Tibo moved to the Marcos-controlled Daily Express and assumed the presidency of the National Press Club of the Philippines and chairperson of the Media Advisory Council, effectively becoming—in his own words—“the sole conduit between the military government and the practicing media.” In 1975, Tibo defected. He knew too much and so informed a Congressional Committee in the United States, in June 1975. Despite Marcos’s efforts to stop its publication, The Conjugal Dictatorship was published in 1976. A year after the publication of the book, Tibo was never heard from again and was declared legally dead years later. Tibo’s youngest son, Luis Manuel, was abducted, tortured, and later found murdered and mutilated in 1977, as a result of the publication of The Conjugal Dictatorship. He was 16 years old.

Im Mittelpunkt der Publikation steht der osterreichische Thronfolger Franz Ferdinand in seiner Bedeutung als Denkmalpfleger und in seiner Funktion als "Protektor" der Zentralkommission fur Denkmalpflege. Erstmals werden die sogenannten "Kunstakten" der Militarkanzlei Franz Ferdinand (MKFF) im Osterreichischen Staatsarchiv (Kriegsarchiv), ein Bestand von 1874 Akten bzw. Aktenkonvoluta, luckenlos dokumentiert und in erweiterter Regestenform wiedergegeben. Franz Ferdinand schuf durch die Einrichtung eines "Staatsdenkmalamtes" und durch die Einsetzung von "Landeskonservatoren" in einzelnen Kronlandern moderne Verwaltungsinstrumentarien und konnte durch seinen personlichen Einsatz - trotz des Fehlens eines Ausfuhrverbots- und eines Denkmalschutzgesetzes - den Schutz und die Erhaltung von Denkmalen, Orts- und Stadtbildern wie auch die Verhinderung von Abbruchen oder irreversiblen "Verschandelungen" historischer Bauten erreichen. Der Thronfolger war einer der Ersten, die den Wert der Volkskunst, aber auch spezifischer Architekturformen wie etwa der galizischen Holzkirchen, erkannten. Ausser Denkmalpflegeaktivitaten im eigentlichen Sinne beinhalten die "Kunstakten" auch wesentliche Bereiche der Kunst- und Kulturpolitik der ausgehenden Monarchie: den Antiquitatenhandel, die Verwendung moderner Baumaterialien wie Eternit, die Lehrstuhlbesetzungen an Hochschulen und den Einfluss moderner Kunstrichtungen in offentliche und kirchliche Bautatigkeit. Die Bandbreite reicht topographisch von Krakau und Lemberg uber Prag und Pilsen bis Trient und Triest, inhaltlich von Restaurierungstechnik uber Personalentscheidungen und Denkmalschutzpolitik bis zur Ausfuhrproblematik von beweglichen Kunstwerken und zur Erhaltung gewachsener Orts- und Stadtbilder. Das Buch ist auch fur die Denkmalpflege der Nachfolgestaaten der Monarchie, insbesondere Tschechien, Polen, Slowenien, Kroatien und Italien ein quellenkundliches Desideratum, das fehlende oder verloren gegangene Archivalien zu erganzen geeignet ist.

Der Architekt Carl Heinrich Ferdinand Streichhan wirkte zwischen 1848 und 1884 als Oberbaudirektor im Grossherzogtum Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach. Beauftragt mit vorwiegend staatlichen Bauaufgaben, hinterliess er als Architekt ein zwar nicht sehr umfangliches, jedoch facettenreiches und teils auch uberregional bedeutendes Werk, das stilistisch der "Berliner Schule" zuzuordnen ist. Insbesondere in der ehemaligen Residenzstadt Weimar pragen Streichhans Bauten damals wie heute stadtebaulich reprasentative Raume. Neben einer Wurdigung des OEuvres widmet sich die Arbeit dem weitgefacherten Aufgabenspektrum eines leitend im Staatsdienst tatigen "Bautechnikers," das planende und administrative, ingenieurtechnische und baukunstlerische Tatigkeiten umfasste.
