For old and new studies in decision making and risk analysis, this book should stand at tlle watershed. Studies of conflict resolution and public policy will surely now have to take account of the model investigation provided by the IIASA team, and many things will not be the same again. This is a report of inquiries into the siting of liquefied energy gas (LEG) facilities in the Federal Republic of Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The risks of transporting this highly combustible stuff, and the economic benefits of being able to bring a natural energy source from one side of the globe to the other, holding it, and piping it out as needed, make LEG a model case for studying the public response to dangerous technology. The dangers of LEG are differ ent from those of nuclear power, for instance, where the response too often becomes entangled with the fear of nuclear war. The dangers of LEG include unco~trollable explosions, rather than insidious contami nation. But the degree of dangerousness is very much of the same order as that of nuclear power, and is at least as difficult to assess. In four different countries the constitutional procedures involved in obtaining approval of nuclear or LEG facilities are on record. The four case histories here are a model for comparative study of conflict resolu tion. The period over which the negotiations developed is much the same.
Eine Veroffentlichung, die der Bedeutung der Geschwisterkonstellation fur die Genese psychischer Fehlentwicklungen nachzugehen verspricht, mag schon deshalb mancherlei Erwartungen hervorrufen, weil das Thema, wenn ich recht beobachtet habe, neuerdings an aktuellem Interesse zu ge- winnen scheint, doch ohne daB dies bereits zu einer merklichen Vertiefung unserer Kenntnisse gefuhrt hatte. Bei naherer Auseinandersetzung mit den einschlagigen Problemen stoBt man nicht nur auf eine sparliche An- zahl hierzu publizierter Arbeiten, sondern beim Vergleich der vorliegen- den Beitrage auch auf eine Reihe von Divergenzen, und zwar gleich in der dreifachen Hinsicht des methodischen Ansatzes, der praktischen Resultate und der theoretischen Interpretation. Da mir hier ein gewisser Brtickenschlag nicht weniger wichtig war als die Darlegung der eigenen empirischen Untersuchungsergebnisse, ist dieses Buch zu einem betrachtlichen Teil methodischen und theoretischen Ober- legungen gewidmet. Vielleicht kann es auf diese Weise neb en der Infor- mation auch einige Anregungen zum Nachdenken tiber die Geschwister- wirkungen als Forschungsfeld bieten, das es verdient und erfordert, vor allem unter tiefenpsychologischen und sozialpsychologischen Aspekten noch bei weitem eingehender bearbeitet zu werden. Gerade die Beschafti- gung mit der vorliegenden Literatur zeigt, daB allzu oft versucht wird, aus Einzelerkenntnissen viel zu unmittelbare Nutzanwendungen abzuleiten.
Success of restorations and replacement of teeth is dictated by a pleasing color acceptable both to the patient and to the dentist and at the same time matching with the remaining teeth. Selection of the shade has been perceived as a specialized skill which every dentist should possess and which is greatly influenced by the ambient light. Sunlight has been considered as ideal but the fluctuations in it and the difficulty to attain an ideal condition for the sunlight has forced the operators to opt for artificial light sources. The objectives of the present study were to determine and compare the shade of ceramic specimens under five different light sources viz., sunlight, incandescent light, halogen light, tube light and color corrected light, to find out the effect of gazing neutral grey and blue colored cards on shade determination, to find out the influence of gender and experience of the operator on shade selection and to determine the effect of two conceptually different shade guides on the shade selection.
