"Somewhere to the north, something terrible was happening. In the same way that he could smell the snow, and the same way he knew when the caravan would arrive, he could feel something in the air. A fire, in some town a day or so away. And there was a hint of fear in the air, the wild panic of a trapped animal before the slaughter."The wind has always spoken to Fox, but it was just instinct, wasn't it? Not a god's Blessing ... not magic. But his powers are growing, and soon, he cannot ignore it anymore: he has a gift. And he is the only one. Why the gods chose to make his homeland magically barren generations ago, he doesn't know. Why he's been chosen now is an even greater mystery. Now, he must learn to control his mysterious Blessing, before it controls him. Or worse.
A collection of poetry that talks about the topics of heartbreak and depression, but also love and kindness. My story is written in the pages of ink, and I believe it is worth sharing. Thank you for your time and consideration. Without you this wouldn't be possible.
Who are you, really? Many of us don't have an immediate answer to that question, much less the question: Who are you destined to be? Far too often we get stuck on the battleground between who we are and who we are destined to be. With clouded vision, bullets firing from every direction, and a heightened sense of vulnerability, we turn back or sit hunkered down - waiting for the smoke to clear. We become complacent, reaffirm our own ideologies, and settle for who we currently are rather than challenging ourselves to transform into the people we were created to be. Throughout stories of traveling adventures, spiritual epiphanies, and personal tragedies, Katlyn explains and breaks down the four pillars that give way to inward transformation. - Self-Awareness- Growth- Intentionality- ConfidenceFinding the best version of yourself is never a stumbled upon discovery; it's a hard, sought-after truth that comes with adversity, discomfort, discipline, and a lot of perseverance. But it leaves you feeling accomplished, aching for more, and a fierceness in your eyes that will leave you thankful for the fact that who you were wasn't who you had to stay. Who you are isn't who you have to be.

The modeling industry is largely unregulated. There are few laws in place to protect models, and the laws that do exist are generally not enforced. How can models not only protect themselves, but thrive in the industry?

What do we do when we read? Reading can be an act of consumption or an act of creation. Our "work reading" overlaps with our "pleasure reading," and yet these two modes of reading engage with different parts of the self. It is sometimes passive, sometimes active, and can even be an embodied form. The contributors to this volume share their own histories of reading in order to reveal the shared pleasure that lies in this most solitary of acts - which is also, paradoxically, the act of most complete plenitude. Many of the contributors engage in academic writing, and several publish in other genres, including poetry and fiction; some contributors maintain an active online presence. All are engaged with reading's capacity to stimulate and excite as well as to frustrate and confuse. The synergies and tensions of online reading and print reading animate these thirteen contributions, generating a sense of shared community. Together, the authors open their libraries to us. This is how we read.Table of Contents //Suzanne Conklin Akbari / "Introduction: Practicing Reading, Reading Practice"Irina Dumitrescu / "Reading Lessons"Anna Wilson / "I Like Knowing What is Going to Happen"Suzanne Conklin Akbari / "Read It Out Loud"Jessica Hammer / "From When We Read"Lochin Brouillard / "De Vita Lochini, or Commentary on a Life of Reading"Chris Piuma / "How I Read"Stephanie Bahr / "How I Read, a History; or 'San Francisco Banking Contains No Trans Fats'"Alexandra Atiya / "d104 to Speech"Jonathan Hsy / "Phantom Sounds"Kirsty Schut / "On Not Being a Voracious Reader"Kaitlin Heller / "Sleeping Under the Mountain"Jennifer Jordan / "Reading to Forget, Reading to Remember"Brantley Bryant / "Best Practice Tips and Strategies for Academic Reading to Maximize Your Time and Productivity"Kaitlin Heller / "Afterword: The Parlor Scene"KAITLIN HELLER is a postdoctoral fellow at Syracuse University and a former assistant editor at Del Rey Books. The beginning of Ride Across California was growing closer and closer, looming like the mountains she knew she'd have to climb. Kailyn had long ago decided she was going to journal her adventures, but she had no idea the collection of stories were ever going to leave her house Many of her tales from the 2018 RAC capture the wit, humor, and general goofing around of an eleven-year-old, but her stories are also filled with surprising insights and life lessons that she hopes the reader will take to heart. She includes mile counts, meals, temperatures/conditions, fun things they did along the way, and her personal thoughts and experiences, all so you know exactly what you're in for from an honest recount."Before you commit to something as significant and challenging as the RAC, read and consider my story. Just because I thought a hill was challenging doesn't mean you will, or that you'll run into the same extreme heat and winds I did. If you're already signed up, that's amazing and good luck If you aren't, what are you waiting around for? See you in the prologue " -KailynThe Ride Across California monumentally impacted Kailyn's life, with all the literal and figurative highs and lows of such a challenge, and she is certain it will impact yours as well. As she says, what are you waiting for? Let's ride
