Kenneth McKellar may have been born in Reconstruction-era Alabama, but for most of his life, he was a Tennessean through and through. After graduating from the University of Alabama with bachelor’s, master’s, and law degrees, McKellar traveled to Memphis for what he expected to be a brief visit with his brothers. That visit was the genesis of a lifelong career and permanent home in West Tennessee. After successfully practicing law in Memphis, Kenneth McKellar kicked off his political career in the US House of Representatives in 1911, where he served until 1917 before becoming a US senator. It explores selected themes in line with Frampton’s many-faceted contribution, certain aspects of which can be noted between the lines of his ongoing criticism of the present-day architecture, which inevitably lead us to a critical understanding of the past, the modernity of architecture’s contemporaneity. The compiled chapters attempt to open a window onto the constellation of themes that allowed Frampton to hold on to his anteroom view of history even amidst the flow of time and flood of temporalities spanning 1980–2020. The book elucidates how Frampton’s critical presentation of the history of modern movement architecture and the book’s classificatory mode (periodization?) contribute to our understanding of the contemporaneity of architecture today.

John Kenneth Galbraith er en af de store amerikanske økonomer i det 20. århundrede.
