"Out of Darkness, A Love Story" is a riveting true story of strength, courage, vulnerability and extravagant love. Raised as a generational satanist, chosen as the next leader of the "family," Lyn speaks of the pain and trauma of training, and the darkness of living in a world controlled by demons. Held hostage in the depths of hopelessness and despair, even at the pinnacle of power, she was desperate to leave satan's web of destruction. Lyn tells of her longing for unconditional love and acceptance, and her struggle for freedom. She shares about her incredible encounters with a loving God. No matter where we are, no matter what we've done or are doing, there is One, Jesus Christ, who can make a difference in our lives. He waits patiently, gently, to take us under His arm and lead us on His path of victory.

Within every small town there are whispers of a dark and unpleasant history lurking among the locals. Things that have been deliberately cast from the memories of our elders in attempt at saving a family name, or perhaps, hushed, lest some vengeful demon be loosed to prove the rumors true. Here in Louisiana, it is much the same with the exception being, many of those rumors are based in horrific and blood wielding fact. With roots stemming so deeply in the dark arts and superstition, it comes as no surprise to the outsiders that there are many secrets and legends that are guarded closely by the locals. One such legend is that of the Dark Man. Born of Sicilian folk lore, the Dark Man made his way to American soil by way of migrant workers who were shipped in via the port of New Orleans. In Sicilian culture, the Dark Man was a ravenous demon that was blamed for the disappearance of any man, woman or child that went missing. Locals knew when half eaten corpses were discovered in the woods that the deceased had been taken and devoured by this beast. Described as a towering black void wearing a brimmed hat and a coat, the Dark Man terrified Sicilian culture for centuries. Some say he originated from a vengeful curse cast by a Strega, others believe that he descended upon the earth directly from Hell itself. But, when Stregheria (Sicilian witchcraft) met up with Creole Voodoo, a demon unlike any that had come before him, arose from the ashes.

Dudley Carter-possibly the most famous artist you've never heard of... ". . . a lively and loving portrait of the great Northwest master, capturing the life and work of an artist as powerful as the ancient forests from which he drew his strength and inspiration." (Leonard Garfield, Executive Director, Museum of History & Industry, Seattle)Dudley Carter: Tales of the Legendary Wood Sculptor combines hundreds of photographs of Carter's works with over fifty fascinating stories about him. Dudley's family, friends, notable fellow artists, architects, journalists, historians, patrons, business magnates, educators-people whose lives were impacted by their personal association with Dudley or by their connection to some of his works-recount his illustrious century-long life, a life that was undoubtedly his finest masterpiece. In 1932 Dudley Christopher Carter, a forty-year-old mini Paul Bunyan, literally hewed his way out of the forest primeval and into the sophisticated world of art. Carter's first experiment in monumental wood sculpture, Rivalry of the Winds, inspired by a legend important to the Northwest Coast Duwamish people, was purchased by the Seattle Art Museum.Born into a pioneering logging family in 1891, as a teen Dudley lived with his family among the Kwakiutl people at Alert Bay in British Columbia. There he acquired a deep appreciation for Native art and culture. That appreciation is readily apparent in many of the fine works Dudley created over his lifetime. In 1947 Carter was the subject of a Life magazine article and a Paramount Pictures film. Reams of newspaper articles about the artist appeared over the years. His fame and reputation continued to grow, and by the 1970s he had amassed a reputation as a fine artist who commanded lucrative commissions for dozens of public art projects and private collections throughout western North America. At the age of 96, Dudley Carter was named the first ever artist in residence for Washington State's King County Parks. Carter's prolific career spanned six enthralling decades, ending in 1992 when he died at the age of 100 with dozens of works still in progress.

It is said when one door closes another one opens. To some this is merely an expression, said in order to give one encouragement during a difficult time.I didn't buy into this type of half-hearted, sympathetic nonsense until my life became a perfect example. Once a broken shell of a man, with only his dog, Digger, as confidant and companion, to finding love and the desire to look forward to life's next adventure.Previously, I only viewed my lifetime of carpentry as a way of provided a living. Through events with Digger, the discovery of reclaimed wood and unexpected Spiritual help I was able to move beyond the obvious and open doors to dimensions beyond the tangible. Most of all it restored my heart to love once again.I now believe and trust in the process of life and the continued discovery and rediscovery of one's life's purpose.Doors closing and doors opening with lessons learned along the way.

When curator Philip Corelli joined the staff of Winston College's new museum, his friendship with Carina Whitley was an unexpected benefit. As their friendship developed quickly Philip struggles to keep his relationship with Carina purely platonic. Why she felt so comfortable with Philip confused Carina, but she reminded herself he was a co-worker and friend, nothing more. Only her closest confidantes knew the reason behind her hesitancy to change their friendship into something deeper. Will their shared faith, and his determination, be enough to reframe sadness and loss in the light of God's love? A note to readers: This book is a lighthearted, faith-based romance, but it does deal with a situation of family tragedy and rescue from an abusive situation. If any of that may be difficult for you, please feel free to set this book aside and come back to it if and when you're ready.

In The Fiction of Tim Winton, Lyn McCredden explores the work of a major Australian author who bridges the literary–popular divide.Tim Winton has won the Miles Franklin Literary Award a record four times and has twice been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. His novels and short stories are widely studied in schools and universities, and have been lauded by critics both in Australia and internationally. Unusually for an Australian literary author, he is also one of the country’s most enduringly popular writers: Cloudstreet was voted ‘Australia’s favourite book’ in a poll conducted by the ABC, his books regularly appear on bestseller lists, and his stories have been adapted for the stage, television, cinema and opera. In this wide-ranging study of Winton’s work and career, McCredden considers how Winton has sustained a strong mainstream following while exploring complex themes and moving between genres. Attending to both secular and sacred frames of reference, she considers his treatment of class, gender, place, landscape and belonging, and shows how a compassion for human falling and redemption permeates his work. She demonstrates how his engagement with these recurring ideas has deepened and changed over time, and how he has moved between – and challenged – the categories of the ‘popular’ and the ‘literary’.

There are so many words for wanting: longing, yearning, lusting, lacking, craving, desiring, aspiring, dreaming, hungering... To want is to be human, to experience both the agony and the exquisite anticipatory movement towards what is beyond present reality. So, wanting is both spiritual and earthy. It is a relishing of possibilities (yes, fantasy ), but equally, a measuring of the lack at the heart of human life, a restlessness, and sometimes a turbulence: 'Quick, said the bird, / find them, find them, / Round the corner. Through the first gate, / Into our first world, shall we follow...' (T.S. Eliot, 'Burnt Norton'). Wanting Only is a set of poetic meditations on how humans - individuals and collectives - are transformed by what and how they desire.
