In the 1980s a new generation of post-Viet Nam mercenary pilots emerged. They were equal-opportunity journeymen who worked for South American drug cartels and CIA operatives alike, ferrying marijuana, cocaine, weapons, and covert special forces teams for fun, profit, and occasionally even patriotism. Mercenary Pilot is the first-person account from one of these mercenaries, known simply as The Doctor, whose eight-year smuggling career and ability to avoid capture and federal prison time made him a folk hero to associates in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and a thorn in the side of DEA agents who were never able to catch him red-handed, often thanks to The Doctor's CIA handlers. While he was occasionally marched off to jail on various Caribbean islands, he would be released as soon as his employer wired money to the local authorities. The book recounts The Doctor's adventures, close calls, derring-do, crash landings, and wild rides as well as the people he worked for or crossed paths with including Pablo Escobar and a certain US Lieutenant-Colonel who orchestrated the Iran-Contra hustle. To put these mercenary times in perspective, the book sets The Doctor's story against the social and political upheavals of 1980s America, a time when more people than not still trusted the government. While there have been some well-known, notorious mercenaries, it's usually because they ended up dead. The most successful mercenary pilots flew under the radar, literally and figuratively because being a household name is not conducive to business or longevity. The Doctor was one of the lucky ones; after using up his nine lives, he got out of the business and went on to have a long, successful career as a professional pilot although for years his old friends at the CIA kept tabs on him. So it's only now, thirty years later, that he feels safe/comfortable enough to share his exploits that are by turns funny, uncomfortable, and frightening and taken together present a Polaroid snapshot of a world that will seem more fiction than fact. But these really are the true adventures of The Doctor.

So what do Fighter Pilots do when they take off their flying suit for that last time? They put on an airline uniform of course, go back to the bar (do they ever really leave?) and pretend their gold Rolex is a Mig from the 'good old days'.Picking up where he left off, Serge recounts more crazy adventures from his time as an Australian F-18 Topgun and how he transitioned to flying Jumbo Jets and other exotic aircraft all around the world. From running out of fuel in a Jumbo over Thailand to diverting away from US airspace so as not to be shot down by trigger happy US fighter pilots; being bombed by Australian fighter jets only to survive and then be attacked by a wild steer; fishing on the Great Barrier Reef with 250kg bombs and hunting for Moose with a 300 thousand watt radar; and his most dangerous mission yet - getting married, having children and turning his sheep shed into a house whilst doing terrible things to all flora and fauna within a 2km radius as he attempts to retrain himself as a farmer. This is the next machinegun-fast and hilarious book from Mac 'Serge' Tucker, the author of Fighter Pilot. And you thought airline flying was safe?

Thud Pilot is the personal account of a combat fighter pilot who flew the Air Force’s premier fighter-bomber in the most dangerous skies over North Vietnam. In the first five years of the Vietnam War, the F-105 Thunderchief conducted 75 percent of the Air Force bombing missions over North Vietnam. Thud Pilot tells the story of the courageous men who flew the F-105 from its earliest combat deployment in 1964, and on through 1966, the year of its heaviest losses. The author’s more significant missions, including his ejection and rescue over North Vietnam are described in detail and are accompanied by map drawings depicting the mission routes from take-off to refueling orbits, the target, and return. The book is full of several `firsts’ in the expanding air war over North Vietnam, including `Operation Spring High,’ the first counter Surface-to-Air-Missile (SAM) strike in the history of aerial warfare. The personal perspective from years of combat experience reveals just how the political mismanagement and inane Rules of Engagement made them as much the hunted as they were the hunters. Thud Pilot goes beyond the battle air space and shares the emotional impact on the families left behind.

Spitfire Pilot is the exhilarating and moving memoir of D. M. Crook, an airman in the legendary 609 Squadron - one of the most successful RAF units in the Battle of Britain. Beginning with his fond recollections of his halcyon days in training - acrobatics, night flying and languorous days spent playing sport and nights off visiting Piccadilly Circus - Crook goes on to recount in thrilling detail the dogfights, remarkable victories and tragic losses which formed the daily routine of Britain's heroic aerial defenders in that long summer of 1940. Often hopelessly outnumbered, the men of 609 Squadron in their state-of-the-art Spitfires committed acts of unimaginable bravery against the Messerschmitts and Junkers of Germany's formidable Luftwaffe. Many of Crook's fellow airmen did not make it back alive, and the absence they leave in the close-knit community of the squadron is described with great poignancy. Spitfire Pilot offers a unique and personal insight into one of the most critical moments of British history, when a handful of men stood up against the might of the German Air Force in defence of their country. This definitive edition, the first for more than sixty years, includes a new foreword by David Crook's daughter and Air Vice Marshal Sandy Hunter, Honorary Air Commodore of the 609 Squadron. The book also has an introduction by Professor Richard Overy.

Peter Parrot left school in 1936 aged just 16. In january 1940, aged 19 and a fully qualified pilot, he was posted to northern France to join 607 squadron in Vitry-en-Artois. War had been declared September 1939 but Hitler delayed taking action through the bitter winter that followed, before invading the Low Countries. The period up to May 1940 is known as the"phoney war" because nothing much was happening but there were any number of reporters and press photographers waiting for the war to begin. One day, as Peter was going out to his aircraft, an official photographer dropped to one knee and asked him to look up so that he could take his photograph. Four of the 607 Squadron pilots were subsequently featured in an article in the Daily Sketch of the 14th March 1940. By May 1940 Peter was flying in combat, flying Hurricanes during the Battle For France. When he returned to England he discovered that his photograph had been used on recruiting leaflets and a poster that, to his embarrassment, was plastered everywhere. Peter Parrot died in 2003 and this biography has been compiled using autobiographical material, Peter's logbooks and anecdotal family memories.
