With the perception of freedom, the young artists of these countries began to look to their own roots to express themselves. At this juncture, a number of artists turned to calligraphy, the most honored of traditional Islamic artistic forms of expression. Text and Texture is a brief introduction to the evolution of contemporary paintings based on Islamic calligraphy, with 33 innovative full color paintings by the author.

The days of our lives have many similarities with a game of poker where a hand that is dealt is akin to a day we wake up into every morning. Some hands are sure winners and need no skill to win; some hands would have to be folded at the start, no matter who is playing that hand. It is only in between these two extremes that gives the game the thrill it beholds; and a skilled player walks away with his head up. It does not matter at what minimum bet table the game is played at. The game and its rules are the same except with different scale of win or loss. Each one of our days, regardless of our social or economic class or the geography we are in are dealt to us without prejudice or intention by the conscious-less nature. Accepting it gracefully as the hand is dealt and playing it the best, we know how to is the essence of being harmonious with the unconscientious universe that surrounds us. Folding on some days is a part of the game and is not being out of the game and submitting to the outcome of the game without self-persecution or infliction upon others is also a part and the end part of the game. A man aware of the nature of the game would not bicker when down and would not boast when he is up; it is only a game; how honorably and harmlessly to others it is played is what makes one player different from others. Absent evidence to the contrary, it is usually assumed that US financial markets developed in spite of government attempts to regulate, and therefore laissez faire is the best approach for developing critically important and enduring market institutions. This book makes heavy use of extensive archival sources that are no longer publicly available to describe in detail the discussions inside the CBOT and the often private and confidential negotiations between industry leaders and government officials. This work suggests that, contrary to the accepted story, what we now know of as modern futures markets were heavily co-constructed through a meaningful long-term collaboration between a progressive CBOT leadership and an extremely knowledgeable and pragmatic US federal government. The industry leaders had a difficult time evolving the modern institutions in the face of powerful reactionary internal forces. Yet in the end the CBOT, by co-opting and cooperating with federal officials, ledthe exchange and Chicago markets in general to a near century of global dominance. On the federal government side, knowledgeable technocrats and inspired politicians led an information and analysis explosion while interacting with industry, both formally and informally, to craft better markets for all.
