High in the mountains of New Mexico, Taos has long been a magnet for artists. When writer Valmai Howe Elkins, escaping brutal east coast winters, buys a tiny house without even seeing inside, lured by the way the light shimmers between the branches of an old apple tree, she is intrigued by the startling adobe house at the top of the lane. "That's the Mabel Dodge Luhan House," the realtor tells her. "Mabel was a wealthy socialite who became a patron of the arts. She married Tony Luhan from the Pueblo and they built that house. She was the person who invited Georgia O'Keeffe to the American Southwest." Mabel, born in 1879, turned her back on a glittering life in Florence, Italy and New York to savor the simple pleasures of Taos and her people. Inspired by Mabel's book, Winter in Taos, together with the extraordinary house and its view across the sage plains to the Sacred Mountain, Elkins regains her health, makes friends and plunges into Taos adventures. The book is an invitation to readers to explore the lives of rebellious women. The author experiences the power of place and a quirky house which continues to create its own magical world.

We all must face storms in our lives, remember God sees the storms before we even hear the thunder. Stand tall in the storm with faith and it will not overcome you. For anything lost here will be regained in heaven. I wrote these poems from the heart, based on experiences that I've encountered in life, as well as to others around me. I feel as if God whispered the words and I was just His pencil. Life may have disappointments and not every road will take you where want to go. However, I can reassure you that through faith and prayer, God will always walk you guide you. I never believed I would write a book, but here it is. God can lead you where you never imagined you could go. It doesn't always happen when you think it should, so just have patience and believe that what God has in store for you is better than anything you could have in store for yourself. As I mention in this book, "As for dreams that don't come true, know that I'm still there with you. For life comes with regrets, and the Father does know best." I was forty years old before I started to write books. Before that, I would write songs with my sister and we would sing them from time to time, then put them away, only for them to be forgotten about or thrown away. When my sister-in-law and niece were killed in an automobile accident on my niece's eleventh birthday, I cannot tell you the pain I felt. We were very close and my heart could not believe it. I saw the hurt in my brother's eyes and in the children she left behind. That was when I wrote my fist memorial poem for the paper, not knowing that over a hundred would follow. Since then, I have never stopped writing poems and books.

Claire's World is a story about a young woman who feels her life has become repetitious with no real meaning. When a young farm hand enters her life, she finds herself torn between what she knows is right and what her heart wants. It shows how hard life was on the farm in the late 1800's and how making just cents a day could keep a family fed and taxes paid. When families worked together all benefited, and how forgiveness can free lives and mend hearts. I was born in a small town in Pennsylvania, where I live today. I am in my fifties and have Four beautiful daughters, and four wonderful sons-n-laws and a supporting man in my life. I'm a Chef, and I love to cook and bake. I have been a foster mother and a home health aide, all of which I have loved doing. I like talking with people, singing in church and writing. Although I did not start writing short stories and books until I was forty. My favorite time is when my grandchildren come to visit for, they make me smile watching them in all they do. My oldest granddaughter Elizabeth Hostetler drew the inside pictures for this book, I am so proud of all of them. Although there have been heart aches in life, I truly feel that I have been blessed.
