The Song of Las Flores Canyon

This book was originally conceived with the idea of introducing English proverbs, aphorisms, and other sayings for their abundant knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge and wisdom are as precious as treasures; therefore, the learning process for knowledge and wisdom was plotted as a treasure-hunting story in this book. As the story was developing, something bigger than knowledge and wisdom came in sight. Something that is the knowledge and wisdom of all knowledge and wisdom; something beyond knowledge and wisdom; something transcends knowledge and wisdom. So, the story evolved, from the physical to the metaphysical, from the mundane to the supramundane. Eventually, the story pilgrimaged into the realm of our mind, the True Mind and the pseudo mind. Certain episodes of the book: ...He was surprised that he dreamed about a possible way to make the dream of treasure hunting in forex market come true. But he was more nervous than excited, because the solution appeared to be so impeccable that he couldn't resist doubting it was too good to be true. ...It was interesting and yet ironic that Dad discovered a significant secret about life from studying the forex market where there are the most speculations, greed and worldliness. ...The program was to guide a mouse to get out from a maze. The charming Charles River sort of inspired him about the solution for the program. The recursion function adopted in the program is very much like reincarnation, because the mouse is looping in and out of the function before it can find its way out. ...Dad made a cone-shape hole with spiral trace around the mother grunion. The hole looked like a conch under the full moon light, which was bearing hundreds and thousands of grunion lives, and which was playing an anthem from the soul of the mother grunion. ...The spiral trace on the wall of the hole resembled the path that Dante took in his Divine Comedy. But the spiral trace here would guide the newborn grunion out of the sand conch from the unfathomable bottom to adventure their Pilgrim's Progress in this unpredictable world. ...When the mother grunion wriggled her way out, it looked more like she was a baby being born than she was a mother giving birth to a baby. ...Karma force was taking effect, but in a different direction. Bright light and fresh energy were released from the True Mind of the charity donator. The happy newborn karma-dependences flew high and away with expectation for a future reunion. The world had been changed for the mother grunion, because a seed of dependence-arising had just been planted. "Go away Survival of the Fittest You are never God's plan and we are never puppets on the Heaven's stage. Nature might select, but karma determines " ...The silhouette of a lady and four cheerful, mermaid-like figures arise gracefully from the Ocean of Clouds and Dreams, and ride on a patch of white cloud coming out from the Heaven's Gate, independently of dependence-arising. ...As the ocean of clouds gets closer, the silhouette of the lady looks more like Dad's most cherished Chinese portrait painting of the Mercy Bodhisattva sitting majestically in the middle of Mind Sutra. The blue and tender-hearted Bodhisattva is no longer blue but more tender-hearted; Bodhisattva's teardrops have transformed into the crystal-clear diamonds that are sliding into the Heaven's karma bank and becoming the good seeds for the future cause-dependence. Tomorrow is another day, and a brighter day. ...The crystal azure radiance from The Eastern Pureland of Lapis Lazuli is painting the entire vault, "With the mind full of Medicine Buddha, one mind-travels in the Lapis Lazuli Radiance", the Song of Life is dawning.

Discover the history of the endangered Ojibwe horse and the daring intervention of the Lac La Croix First Nation in this celebration of community, tradition, courage, and hope. It's a cold, snowy night at Lac La Croix First Nation, and two siblings are too excited to fall asleep. The horses are coming tonight Amid the buzz of aunties and uncles and cousins, Nookomis tells a story that began many years ago, when their people shared the land with herds of wild ponies. In a symbiotic relationship, the people provided the horses with food and shelter, while the horses helped them run traplines and travel. But after many years had passed, and the herd had dwindled to four, the government threatened to shoot them. It was time to move the remaining horses to safety--but getting them there would be harder than they thought Follow the true story of a "heist across the ice" from Ontario to Minnesota and learn how a small herd of hardy, indigenous horses returned years later to their native land. Rich illustrations honor the life of the Ojibwe people over time, as well as the land and living things that have survived under their stewardship.

Your Global Warming Guide. The intent of this workbook is to present students with activities that structure their conceptual understanding of climate change. This is accomplished through a series of hands-on and thought experiments followed by questions to build students' analytical thinking skills. Therefore, whether or not they further pursue science, students - later citizens - will be able to reason through the factors that affect issues of central concern to society, including climate change. This is accomplished through a series of hands-on and thorough experiments followed by questions to build students' analytical thinking skills.Divided into these five parts: Weather and ClimateMeasuring Changethe Greenhouse EffectHeating and Cooling the EarthThe Push and Pull of Climate ChangesWeather and Climate (pages 14 - 22) gets students thinking about the temporal and spatial scale of climates in order to confront the concept of global changes.Measuring Change (pages 23 - 35) builds students' observational and data analysis skills that will aid in their extracting meaning from the subsequent experiments and concept-teaching questions. This section will be of use to any curricular content for which tracking change is necessary. The Greenhouse Effect (pages 36 - 54) focuses on the dominant issue of present concern for climate change. While certainly not the only issue, the groundswell of attention garnered by global warming means that a generation of students will need to understand this concept that is already driving social change. Every effort was made to present the effect accurately without complicating its explanation. The intent is for students to "discover" the greenhouse effect as opposed to blindly applying dogmatic knowledge in token demonstrations. Myriad studies in science education have shown that an inquiry/discovery approach allows students to take ownership of their learned knowledge while building scientific skills. Once they have developed their own comprehension of how greenhouses work, the conceptualization of infrared radiation interacting with atmospheric molecules will be better retained. Note that a detailed explanation is beyond the scope of this book.Heating and Cooling the Earth (pages 55 - 73) combines the first three parts and has students begin to apply their accrued knowledge. Much of these activities and thought experiments concern water and ice, as that is where the lion's share of evidence for present climate change exists. Class discussions upon completing the activities can therefore be well augmented by current affairs. The Push and Pull of Climate Change (pages 74 - 86) collates students' abstract thinking skills to synthesize their fundamental understanding of climate change. The activities encourage debate and prediction within the context of global warming. Students will therefore be better able to weigh risks and propose solutions to myriad problems, both generally and specifically to climate change. It is hoped that in using this resource to augment your lessons, students will come away with the ability to problem solve and think critically rather than regurgitate countless facts. Climate change has occurred and continues to take place; today's students need to be prepared to make the most of our future. This book supports many of the fundamental concepts and learning outcomes from the curriculum for these provinces: Ontario, Grade 7, Science, Understanding Earth & Science Systems, Heat in the Environment.96 pages, including an answer key.
