How could John and Sheila know that their Christmas vacation would be so far from ordinary? At twelve-years-old, their lives were soon going to become heavily entwined in the most dangerous of adult situations, murder and cover-up. If John's parents thought moving to the country would be a safe place to raise children, or Sheriff Stark thought Seacliff would be perfect for semi-retirement, they were about to be proven wrong. With the Gordon's living nearby, and their having connections to the mob, anything could happen. And would. As everyone would soon discover after John and Sheila witness Billy, the mailman's, murder and cover-up. Will Sheriff Stark be able to keep the two amateur deputies safe as he tries to bring the murder to justice? Or will John and Sheila's constant snooping in places where they shouldn't be get them all killed?

The timeless home of our 28th president, perfectly preserved from the 1920s, serves as an unforgettable backdrop for learning about our past as Americans. The Trust opened the doors of the museum in 1963 for visitors to explore this significant site with over 8,400 one-of-a-kind historic artifacts. The book boasts a treasure trove of images from the Trust museum's archives, offering a visually stunning journey through history. On March 4, 1921, Woodrow and Edith Wilson moved from the White House into their new home - just a mile and a half away - at 2340 S Street NW in Washington, DC's Kalorma neighborhood. The former president lived here until his death in 1924. Edith called it home until her passing in 1961, at which time she bequeathed the house and its furnishing to the National Trust for Historic Preservation to serve as a monument to President Wilson. A century after Woodrow Wilson left office, his policies and legacy continue to animate our national conversations about American foreign policy, race relations, and the meanings of progressivism and democracy. The President Woodrow Wilson House's executive director, Elizabeth A. Karcher, presents a meticulously researched and engaging narrative that illuminates the house's evolution from private residence to a dynamic cultural institution. The National Trust for Historic Preservation, a private, nonprofit organization that works to save America's historic places, owns and operates the Woodrow Wilson House.

Drawing in the Twenty-First Century

As a response to the ubiquity of drawing in contemporary consciousness and a corresponding dearth of critical engagement with the medium, these collected essays provide original interpretations of artists' drawing today. Questions of process, politics, scale, and community raised in the work of the diverse group of artists are situated within the historic discourse on drawing and demonstrate the extent to which contemporary practice challenges previous definitions of the medium. From the room-encompassing drawings of Monika Grzymala and Barbara Bernstein or Sophie Calle's expansive exploration of the Jerusalem eruv to Andrea Bowers's graphite renditions of protest to Ellsworth Kelly's proposal for a memorial to September 11, the essays explore the implications of drawings' departure from the confines of a sheet of paper. Essential reading for both the academic and general audience, this book provides in-depth discussions of artists and projects that have never been treated in a sustained, analytical way; each essay will interest the wider contemporary art audience, as well as students of drawing. Taken as a whole, the volume represents a pertinent and stimulating engagement with issues of paramount importance to our understanding of contemporary art and its place in museums, galleries, and the public sphere.

For millennia plant and animal species have received little sustained attention as subjects of Christian theology and ethics in their own right.Focused on the human dilemma of sin and redemptive grace, theology has considered the doctrine of creation to be mainly an overture to the main drama of human being`s relationship to God. What value does the natural world have within the framework of religious belief? The crisis of biodiversity in our day, when species are going extinct at more than 1,000 times the natural rate, renders this question acutely important. Standard perspectives need to be realigned; theology needs to look out of the window, so to speak as well as in the mirror.Ask the Beasts: Darwin and the God of Love leads to the conclusion that love of the natural world is an intrinsic element of faith in God and that far from being an add-on, ecological care is at the centre of moral life.

Key social and emotional milestones during adolescence are often directly related to the abilities to initiate and maintain intimate relationships, maintain physically maturing bodies, and manage personal sexuality. Most adolescents with developmental disabilities have particular difficulty expressing sexuality in satisfying ways, consequently facing issues such as limited intimate relationships, low self-esteem, increased social isolation, deregulated emotional maintenance, reduced sexual functioning, and limited sexual health. Appropriate sexual knowledge assists not only in achieving personal fulfillment, but protection from mistreatment, abuse, unplanned pregnancies, or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). It also works to help solve problems of loneliness and problems with self-esteem. This book will address this but also much more. Issues of physical and cognitive development will be discussed, including appropriate sexual development/urges and brain development, and innate similarities and differences of sexuality that could occur between people with autism spectrum disorders and intellectual or developmental disabilities, including the complexities of physical disabilities. The authors will also consider special considerations for group homes and recreational facilities, and specifically focus on concepts of ethics and models of consent (medical, legal, social, and educational), as well as how to deal with uncertainty.
