How Not to Be a Perfect Mother: The Crafty Mother's Guide to a Quiet Life / Comment ne pas être une mère parfaite: Nouvelle édition
Are you a perfect mother or a real mother? Perfect mothers are forever smiling, their homes are I'maculate, and they never raise their voices. Real mothers wear stained pullovers, never finish anything, sigh with exhaustion and tremble for no good reason. The problem, according to Libby Purves, is that perfect mothers exist only in books. All (or practically all) the others fret, feel guilty and ruin the lives of everyone in their family. Here is a great book filled with anecdotes and tricks to help you become a good mother, without spoiling your own and everyone else's life. In other words, it will show you how to be an imperfect, but happy, mother for the good of everyone around you'does being a good mother necessarily mean you must sacrifice your life to your children? No, fI'mly replies Libby Purves. It is normal to pamper infants, but there is absolutely no reason to stay locked up at home, feeling anxious and guilty over each one of your baby's rashes, aches and tantrums.First published in 1994, How Not to Be a Perfect Mother was an I'mediate bestseller. This new edition has been completely revised and updated. This book is a real survival manual for young mothers; it shows them how not to turn the early weeks and months of motherhood into a nightmare of anxiety. With her light, humorous touch, Libby Purves offers young mothers a wealth of simple but crafty tricks to save time, keep on an even keel, and take hold of their own lives ? without making their babies suffer. This is the perfect book for a young mother to read when she's feeling depressed, unworthy or simply unable to cope.Libby Purves is a BBC radio presenter and a regular contributor to many British publications. She is the author of such best-selling books as How Not to Raise the Perfect child and How Not to Be a Perfect Family, based on her own experience as a mother.

As more governments, companies and individuals scan the globe for access to primary resources such as minerals and timber, food, power and water, and destinations for work, holidays and homes, pressures on places and communities grow. At the same time, global environmental risks – most notably, climate change – produce new networks and unfamiliar forms of politics. Communication media are integral to this change. This book explores how geographically diverse groups and individuals interact in and through media to influence the negotiations and decisions affecting often distant landscapes and communities. Drawing on extensive fieldwork in the Australia-Asia region, the book includes case studies on the environmental protests that follow the international flow of people and resources, including timber, fish, coal, water and tourism. It asks how ‘communities of concern’ are evoked, which transcend local places and national boundaries.

This book draws lessons from a pivotal moment in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a time marked by both conflict and uncertainty. It explores how economic ideas—particularly bilateral trade—contributed to the unprecedented breakthrough of the 1993 Oslo I Accord. Special focus is given to the establishment of the economic relations between the conflicting sides as manifested in the 1994 Paris Protocol, the legal economic framework of the Oslo Accords. While the economic empowerment of Palestine within the Oslo Accord showed initial promise, in the decades to follow, increasing economic (inter)dependence coincided with rising tensions. The book examines how the ‘Economic Peace for the Middle East’ has since been shaping the peace process in the region, from the 1993 Oslo process to the 2020 Abraham Accords and the ongoing negotiations amid the Israel-Hamas 2023 war. Through a multidisciplinary approach, it explores the intersection of economic policy and diplomacy, offering insights into both the lessons of Oslo and the derangement of the peace process for practitioners, researchers, and students engaged with international relations, political economy, peace and conflict and Middle East affairs.
