There is an Indian proverb: If you live by the banks of a river, make friends with the crocodile. Set in India, this is a novel about the corrosive relationship between a mother and daughter-in-law, and the contempt in which that society still holds women. Siddiqa's son has brought his new wife, Naira, to live with them, so Siddiqa is no longer the lowest of the household, for she now has a daughter-in-law to assume that role. But when Naira accuses one of her husband's friends of sexually assaulting her, all their lives begin to spiral out of control.

Within these pages, you'll find the same story you've come to know and love about that famous ill-fated prince of Denmark slightly updated as a satire of today's troubled times. You'll note that all of the artistry of The Bard's words have been stripped away, leaving only the unvarnished truth of the text behind, so even a moron could understand. You'll find this play rewards knowledge of the original text, as it is ultimately a love letter to Shakespeare's original piece.

When Mick Theebs was younger, stupider, and greedier, he made the unwise decision to work with a start-up founded by an old high school classmate. After some promising initial success, the decision proved to be an unmitigated disaster with the company being undermined by lies, drugs, and incompetence. This is a true story about how the blind ambition, unchecked ego, and naked avarice that is the fabric of start-up culture can lead to ruin.

The Darkest Eyes is an epic portal-crossing adventure with mythic resonance and strong psychological underpinnings. Will Roan is at the top of her game career-wise. She's a deep-sea submersible pilot who's brainy, daring and cool. Her personal life couldn't be more different. For as long as she can remember, she's seen little gray aliens lurking in the shadows, watching her, stalking her. Although she's a scientist who tends to be inquisitive about everything, she has steadfastly refused to examine the disturbing things she's experienced throughout her life, fearing all she'd find would be evidence of her own mental instability. Her effort to present a sane exterior to the world has meant that she could never get too close to anyone or settle down anywhere. Physically and emotionally, she's always been on the run. Lately, though, the grays have been threatening to tear down the wall Will has erected between her inner life and the real world. They've been relentless in their pursuit, infringing on the semblance of normalcy she's constructed. When a particularly frightening encounter costs Will her job, she makes her way home. She's just in time for her dying mother -- her dying, crazy mother -- to give her an object that could explain away Will's madness or draw her inextricably into its clutches. A beautifully carved crystal skull holds the answers to the mystery of Will's life, her mother says. She can use it to cross a portal to Atlantis -- her real home. Will's first instinct is to run, but her flight is interrupted when her beloved young niece disappears, the apparent victim of the aliens. Will decides to plunge into the unknown to find young Becky.Atlantis is beautiful and unspoiled, and its people appear to be living their best lives. However, political intrigue and dissent simmer beneath the surface. Hesoa is a dying world, chaotic and reeking, populated by a race of gray aliens on the verge of extinction. Will must navigate the perils of both worlds to save the child -- and, it turns out, much more. Will is beset with self-doubt. Is she sane? Is anything she's experiencing real? Can she trust anyone? Is it possible that the fate of three worlds could depend on her?

The Book of Languages: Talk Your Way Around the World
We use language all day, every day - probably without thinking much about it. But if you stop and consider it, language is not only extremely important, it's fascinating, too Use of language is one of the key things distinguishing humans from other animals, and nearly 7,000 languages are spoken around the world. Without it, we'd be hard pressed to communicate, express ourselves, or understand others. The Book of Languages begins with an introduction to why language is important, how it originated and how it changes. From there, the book profiles 21 of the world's languages. Each spread showcases a language's history, where it's spoken, what it looks like and how to speak a few phrases and count to ten. Rounded out with sections on non-verbal and animal language, this book will stimulate readers' curiosity about the world and spark appreciation for language learning.

Alien Invasion The Chronicles: Keep your eye on the sky
Perhaps it wasn't fair to call the arrival of the first interstellar aliens an invasion. They came as refugees looking for a permanent home in exchange for providing earth with all the wonderful scientific advances they had made over countless centuries. Why earth? According to them, the humans of earth were closer in DNA to their species than any other they had encountered. This seemed strange to the people of earth because their alien visitors were amorphous, transparent beings capable of surviving among the clouds or deep in the ocean. The real aliens invasion came many years later. By then, the transparent first arrivers, Lucie's as they were called, had used genetic manipulation to take on the physical attributes of humanity. They had intermarried and most families boasted human and Lucie in their background. With the advances in science and the unity of the peoples the ruthless alien invaders were in for a big surprise.

Formed around the future husband and wife team of Win Butler and Regine Chassagne in 1993, this powerful seven-piece band seemed to define onstage dynamism before they discovered an audience. Once beyond the obligatory low-budget debut EP, they fused their complex instrumentation - piano, viola, French horn, accordion, harp and hurdy gurdy etc - to produce Funeral, one of the greatest debut albums in decades. This 1994 release, bolstered by hearty support from the likes of David Bowie, David Byrne and U2, catapulted Arcade Fire to worldwide success. Triumphant sets at the Coachella, Reading and Latitude festivals only served to continue the momentum. This book looks beyond the triumphs that gather in their story, to discover a band who are determine to retain the pure yet complex personal dynamic that always set them apart.

In December 1976, a coach drove off down a London street. On board were the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Heartbreakers and their respective management, while The Damned, who were also on the bill, were travelling separately. The 'Anarchy in the UK Tour' should have been just another rock 'n' roll tour, and surely would have been, had it not been for the Sex Pistols' anarchic antics on the Today show two days earlier. What should have been an inconsequential three-minute interview to hopefully plug the new single, and the accompanying promotional tour, descended into farce when the show's host Bill Grundy goaded the Sex Pistols' guitarist Steve Jones into saying something outrageous? Author Mick O Shea has interviewed members of the band's involved, managers, roadies and audience members to tell the story of why this was such an important tour. Explains why many local councils banned the tour resulting in only seven out of a scheduled twenty gigs taking place. One London councilor stated: "Most of these groups would be vastly improved by sudden death" The book is also an examination of punk rock's impact on the nation in the Seventies. Illustrated throughout with rare photographs and memorabilia.
