⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Jason Burns' Sam Harris: Provocateur of Reason and Faith offers an insightful and engaging exploration of one of today's most prominent voices in the discourse on atheism, morality, and the interplay between reason and faith. Whether you are a longtime follower of Harris or simply curious about his impact on contemporary thought, this book serves as an excellent entry point into understanding the complexities of his ideas.Comprehensive OverviewBurns carefully chronicles Harris's intellectual journey, from his early works like The End of Faith to more recent endeavors such as Waking Up. Readers will appreciate how Burns contextualizes Harris's arguments within the broader landscape of philosophical and theological discussions. The author adeptly dissects Harris's critique of religion, presenting it through the lens of reason and scientific inquiry, showcasing Harris's commitment to evidence-based thinking.Engaging Writing StyleOne of the standout features of this book is Burns's clear and engaging writing style. He manages to explain complex philosophical concepts without alienating those who might not have a background in academia. The prose flows smoothly, making it easy for readers to grasp Harris's views on morality, spirituality, and the often-contentious clash between belief and skepticism.Fair and Balanced PerspectiveImportantly, Burns does not shy away from discussing the criticisms that Harris faces from both religious apologists and secular thinkers. The author presents a balanced view, acknowledging the valid concerns regarding Harris's positions while also defending his contributions to the discourse on faith and reason. This equilibrium enhances the book's value as it encourages readers to think critically about the arguments presented.Thought-Provoking InsightsThe book also includes thought-provoking reflections on the nature of faith in the modern world, an aspect that is often overlooked in discussions surrounding atheism. Burns asks challenging questions about the role of spirituality and the human experience, prompting readers to reflect on their beliefs, regardless of their stance on religion. This introspective approach makes the book not only an exploration of Harris's ideas but also an invitation for self-examination.ConclusionSam Harris: Provocateur of Reason and Faith is an essential read for anyone interested in the critical dialogues of our time regarding faith, reason, and human morality. Jason Burns has successfully crafted a narrative that is at once educational, engaging, and thought-provoking. This book is a testament to the influence of Sam Harris as a thinker and a provocateur in the realms of philosophy and religion. Whether you agree with him or not, you'll find this book to be a compelling reflection on the power of rational thought in a faith-driven world.Highly recommended

This will only be accomplished by wise legislation, the maintenance of our integrity, and the faithful and just redemption of our plighted faith wherever it has been pledged." - Sam Houston More than most men in history, Sam Houston was a contradictory individual. He was born in the United States while George Washington was in office, and in an era when the native people who were gradually being subjugated were considered savages, he called them friends and even lived among them. He was abandoned by his first wife and, after suffering the sting of divorce, married again in the manner of his native family, only to abandon his Indian bride to return to life among his own people. In the interim, he fought for their rights in the halls of government, defending them even as he obtained favor in the eyes of one of their worst enemies. More than a decade passed before he would finally make a successful marriage, marrying a woman more than 20 years his junior but with the right mix of charm and grit to make a successful life with him and their large family. Though he was born and raised elsewhere, Houston is considered one of Texas' truest sons, and during his life he fought for its independence from Mexico and then for its submission to the United States. He owned slaves himself but spent his entire political career fighting against the spread of "the American cancer" to the West. Then, when his beloved state seceded from the Union, he not only opposed secession but sacrificed his own position to protest it, only to turn around and support the Confederacy during the last years of his life. What cannot be questioned is how profound an impact Sam Houston had on Texas, Mexico, and the United States over the course of several decades. He had a storied career both in times of war and peace, and he proved to be a stubborn but canny politician who represented multiple states. Sam Houston: The Life and Legacy of the Man Who Led the Texas Revolution looks at how he became one of the Southwest's most important figures. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events, you will learn about Sam Houston like never before.

Rare edition with unique illustrations and elegant classic cream paper. Harriet Elizabeth Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) was an American author and abolitionist, famous for writing Uncle Tom's Cabin, first published in 1852. Stowe wrote the novel as an angry response to the 1850 passage of the second Fugitive Slave Act, which punished those who aided runaway slaves and diminished the rights of fugitives as well as freed slaves. It was the best-selling novel of the 19th century (and the second best-selling book of the century after the Bible) and is credited with helping to fuel the abolitionist cause in the United States prior to the American Civil War. When Stowe met Abraham Lincoln in 1862 (during the Civil War), he reportedly greeted her with, "So you're the little woman who wrote the book that started this great war " Other works include: Sunny Memories of Foreign Lands (1854), Dred: A Tale of the Great Dismal Swamp (1856), The Minister's Wooing (1859), Lady Byron Vindicated (1870) and Pink and White Tyranny (1871). A biography, Life of Harriet Beecher Stowe, written by her son, Charles Edward Stowe, was published in 1889. Includes vintage illustration

This work is a critical exploration of a book by Sam Harris entitled 'The End of Faith: Religion, Terror and the Future of Reason'. While the book by Mr. Harris puts forth arguments that attempt to paint all spirituality and religion with broad strokes of derision, castigation, and rejection, Mr. Harris also reserves a great deal of space within his book for casting aspersions on Islam and Muslims. The present critical review examines the many errors, misunderstandings, and problems contained in the aforementioned work of Mr. Harris. This book -- minus corrections, new formatting, and name change -- was previously published as: 'Sam Harris and the End of Faith: A Muslim's Critical Response'.

Though he shares similar traits with other autistics, Lewis is in no way usual, and for most of Anna's life, everything has been about her brother. She works every job she can find just to pay the bills. Then she's hired for a well-paying position by Bellway Aircraft inspection foreman Sam Post. Sam is a genuinely good man about to go through the most trying period of his life, some of it due to his decision to show kindness to his new employee, and his recognition of her need for help. Anna develops feelings for Sam, who assures her all she's feeling is gratitude. He's older than she is, and married, so any relationship between them is impossible. Anna knows he's right once her brother gets arrested...again. Labeled 'high-functioning', the impulsive Lewis has long been accustomed to getting everything he wants thanks to a doting mother and hard-working sister. But Lewis has a secret problem no one talks about, and once he meets two men who can help him obtain what he truly desires, he develops new focus and gains a previously unseen intensity. Of course, getting what he wants is still going to depend largely upon Anna...
