Popular Music in a Digital Music Economy

Popular Music in a Digital Music Economy

In the late 1990s, the MP3 became the de facto standard for digital audio files and the networked computer began to claim a significant place in the lives of more and more listeners. The dovetailing of these two circumstances is the basis of a new mode of musical production and distribution where new practices emerge. This book is not a definitive statement about what the new music industry is. Rather, it is devoted to what this new industry is becoming by examining these practices as experiments, dedicated to negotiating what is replacing an "object based" industry oriented around the production and exchange of physical recordings. In this new economy, constant attention is paid to the production and licensing of intellectual property and the rise of the "social musician" who has been encouraged to become more entrepreneurial. Finally, every element of the industry now must consider a new type of audience, the "end user", and their productive and distributive capacities around which services and musicians must orient their practices and investments.

The 5-Tool Hitter: A Complete Treatise on the Mental Side of Hitting
Hitters are primarily graded on their level of production. Metrics like .OPS (On Base Plus Slugging), .OBP (On Base Percentage) and Slugging Percentage (SLG) are primarily used to measure how productive a hitter is. What helps a hitter increase their chances of maximizing productivity? Their ability to make quality contact with the ball on a consistent basis. Making quality contact with the ball requires key psychological constructs that help increase factors like concentration, confidence and self-regulation to name a few. There are 5 core psychological constructs that all elite hitters regularly exemplify. They are a set of mental skills that can be learned and applied by nearly any hitter with enough purposeful effort. Steve Springer discusses 4 of them in his landmark audio CD called "Quality At Bats". I blend them all together into a useable model so that they help your formulate an elite cognitive map. The 5 Mental Tools of hitting that are discussed in this book will help you maximize your talent so you can compete one pitch at a time.
Two Thirds of A Pun

Two Thirds of A Pun

The front cover says it all. Some puns make you smile. Some puns make you groan. And some puns make you hold your nose. It seemed only natural to me that the title of a book of puns should be a pun itself. For the uninitiated, the word "pun" has three letters. So each one is a third of the entire word, making two of the three - "P- U" - two thirds of the whole word. How punny is it that P-U is pronounced the same way as "Pee Yew," the expression used to indicate that something stinks? Which, of course, some puns do. That is why we love them. And how appropriate is it to have the stinker of stinkers saying that something stinks? All the puns in this book are original with me. Yes, I take the blame for them. Perhaps you have thought of some of them yourself. If so, you have my empathy. And also my congratulations because understanding a pun takes a certain degree of intelligence. I hope this book encourages you to keep on having PUN in your life. -Tim Moser
Travels Around Britain: A Guide to Some Lesser Known Spots

Travels Around Britain: A Guide to Some Lesser Known Spots

Fancy a holiday in Britain? Want to visit this amazing island, but don't know where to begin? 'Around Britain' tells us, warts and all, how to get the most out of a trip to the UK. The book takes us to six amazing destinations and gives us ideas of what we can do once we arrive. The book doesn't spend time describing the obvious; it avoids that honeypots that feature in most guides. When we tour a country we want to see it in its natural splendor, not spend hours queuing in an endless line of frustrated tourists or sitting in our car with nothing more to see than the lorry on our left, the luxurious range rover on our right while in front and behind stretch endless lines of vehicles.Around Britain introduces us to the real side of the country. We don't want to use the clich , 'real Britain', but that is what we'll find in this book. We start off by visiting the beautiful east coast, staying in one of England's traditional holiday destinations, Hunstanton. After that, it is north and across the border to Scotland. On the way, we explore beautiful Lindisfarne, the Holy Island and the stunning town of Berwick upon Tweed. In Scotland, we experience the Edinburgh Fringe, the world's largest arts festival. Our reading gives us tips on what to see, and where to find it. Next, it is down to archetypal England. The vast and impressive Yorkshire Dales. We pop across to the Lake District and learn how to avoid the crowds on Windermere and find the genuine Lakes, one of the world's most stunning landscapes. We discover a little of Britain's most tragic historical disaster - when the plague wiped out one in three of the population. We visit Eyam, the plague village. This is not some artificial reconstruction, full of actors in costume and fake buboes, but a genuine village where people live and work. But also one that remembers and honors its past. From there, it is on to one of England's most secret gems, the unexplored Forest of Dean. We travel into Wales, and then head southwest to the Isles of Scilly. This archipelago sits nearly thirty miles off the mainland and enjoys its own sub-tropical climate. Visitors associate Britain with temperate but dodgy weather, and that can be the case. Not on Scilly, where clear waters and long days of sun remind us more of the Mediterranean than northern European.Next, it is another English island, the Isle of Wight. Here we travel back in time, enjoying Edwardian splendor alongside the fun and frivolity of the seventies. A traditional seaside resort is a must-see for any visitor to Britain, or indeed any native exploring the less well explored aspects of their nation. The Isle of Wight is a living museum, an experience like no other. We finish our tour in the capital. But this is not the London of endless queues for Madame Tussaud's or glimpses of the crown jewels through crowds of fellow tourists. Instead, we learn of some of the real gems of London, the places that tourists do not usually see. We discover the thrill of a proper theatrical experience; not a musical that can be seen anywhere in the world, but a play to genuinely thrill us.'Around Britain' offers an entertaining and indispensable guide for anybody (even natives) planning a tour around Britain. It reveals the lesser-known treasures of this incredible country while avoiding the predictable itineraries of most visitors.
The Hundred Dollar Bill Man: A Day with Benjamin Franklin (Contemporary Short Story)
Have you ever had a dream that seemed so real, even though it couldn't possibly be true? Here is your chance to dive in to a place where dreams become reality and where logic doesn't exist. As a young boy I had a wish to meet a great man I looked up on to, a man that inspired me to become a better person and spend my life in the best way I can. Yet I also had a wish to show him my life, where I am, what I do and how are things here. Even though he probably knows it all, it's fun connecting to the people you admire, even when it's just fun, games and endless curiosity for life. What I truly want to share with all of you, was my realization that life is less about logic and more about play. Benjamin spoke with an eternal feeling of peace, like he was always here, like I just happened to see him, even though he knows everything there is to know about me. But we don't look for logic, we are too busy playing and enjoying life. And in the same time, we are in the process of becoming a better version of ourselves. If you remember to breathe, and sometimes hug a tree, every forest will become magical. You just have to dream, dream and dream. My dream is a symbol that all dreams eventually become true, so be very careful what you wish for, for it might come true There are many things you can learn from this short story, and I don't want to give them all away, I just want you to look closely for the hidden doors that are scattered around between lines of text. Hidden doors that lead to the wisdom you seek.
The Soul of a Warrior

The Soul of a Warrior

There is an intriguing correlation between the physical warfare of an infantryman and the spiritual warfare of a follower of Jesus Christ. Both of these combat situations are challenging, intense, and life-altering. Every Christian has been drafted into the army of God and is engaged in battles with spiritual forces. Not very many people, in comparison, have experienced the horrors of earthly combat. The author, Tim Rezac, has experienced both, in a very real and personal sense. As a devoted disciple of Jesus, he had to wrestle with many spiritual and emotional issues during the Vietnam War. This book contains many of those issues, with biblical comparisons and practical applications for victorious Christian living. Some of the chapters may be uncomfortable to read but are necessary for a lucid description of both types of warfare in the real world. This book's primary purpose is twofold: To encourage fellow believers toward spiritual maturity as soldiers in the Lord's army, and to urgently persuade those who have not yet trusted in Jesus Christ as their Savior to do so. May you be eternally blessed as you read and ponder the following pages.
Common Sense as a Paradigm of Thought
The notion of common sense and abiding by its implications is something that, seemingly, everyone agrees is a good way of making behavioral decisions and conducting one's daily activities. This holds true whether one is a liberal, moderate, or conservative; young or old; and regardless of one's race and ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. If utilizing common sense is such a good idea, why then, do so many people seem to violate it? This is just one of many significant questions surrounding the idea of common sense explored and discussed in this book. This volume presents common sense as a ‘paradigm of thought’ and as such, compares it to other major categories of thought — tradition, faith, enlightened and rational. Combining a balance of practical, everyday approaches (through the use of popular culture references and featured boxes) and academic analysis of core and conceptual methodological issues, Delaney demonstrates: The limitations of common sense and its place in everyday social interactions How we learn about common sense Why common sense is so importantCommon Sense as a Paradigm of Thought introduces readers to a rich variety of sociological authors and will appeal to students and researchers interested in fields such as: sociology, philosophy, social psychology, cultural studies, communications and health studies.
Shadows Over Iran: A Personal Account 1976-83
This true account started as a love story with many obstacles in its way such as nationality, religion and differing cultures and developed into becoming a witness to major historical events. Starting in London in 1975, falling in love and then marrying in Iran in 1977 the story is initially of how life was in the time of the Shah and then the rising storm of unrest as the country erupted into full blown revolution culminating in the change of regime in early 1979. Following this the events of the first four years of the Islamic Republic and the rapidly changing cast of personalities involved are described in conjunction with the US hostage crisis, other revolutionary events and war all taking place in the same country whilst a major construction project involving large numbers of expatriates was ongoing in its own little world. In addition the effect of the upheavals on everyday life are described together with the abrupt termination of this in 1983.
