Bride, Texas Series (Book 5): When Bailey learns that her longtime crush botched the annulment from their drunken night in Vegas, can she make him see that she and their marriage are worth fighting for?NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: this is a sweet romance but does contain mild cursing.EXCERPTBailey sat on a stool at the kitchen's island counter in front of a platter of fried chicken, scrolling through her phone. Good chance she was shopping for supplies. I'd rarely seen her not working since I'd arrived in Bride."You'll ruin your appetite for dinner."Bailey jolted, dropping a leg of chicken and spinning on the stool. "You scared me. Too hungry to wait another hour.""Same here." I intercepted the chicken leg as she raised it toward her lips and then I sunk my teeth into it.Bailey's eye twitched. "Nice manners. I was eating that." She reached for the plate of chicken and chose a wing. I snagged that too, wrestling it from her hand. She slipped off the stool and threw a punch at my bicep. She used to always playfully beat on me."You want it?" I smashed the chicken leg on her face, smearing chicken fat around her mouth and coercing her lips apart. She belly-laughed, throwing punches faster than I could dodge them. "Such a jerk."Jerk, yes. But she was laughing again. With me. I reached for a fresh drumstick and jammed that at her face too, swiping it across her cheek. She crammed a wing into my nose, mainlining the spices and grease directly into my nostril. Her eyes lit with a familiar mischief before she squished the chicken into my hair. This was war. And, what the hell, I needed a shower anyway.I shoved her against the counter, about to stuff the chicken leg down the front of her shirt and froze, my gaze locking onto the creamy swells at her neckline. Her chest rose and fell with each pant and my gaze met hers. She licked her lips, then focused on my mouth. Not one to let a perfect opportunity pass, I seized the moment and leaned in.

NOTE: This is a sweet, semi-clean romance. Although all Veronica Blade books do contain some mild cursing, the Rock Star Kisses series has slightly more than others. Sebastian's unexpected desire to devour Violet's mouth baffles him-he barely knows her and he prefers his women a little more agreeable. Besides, he has more important things to focus on, like rebuilding his scorched reputation after years in a drunken haze. Since she's a miracle worker at public relations, he's stuck with her and her bad attitude. If only he could purge the freakishly realistic x-rated visuals of Violet popping into his head, he might actually accomplish his goal and be allowed back into the band. But she isn't making anything easy. When Violet's father, Full Throttle's band manager, asks her to salvage Sebastian's public image, she can't turn down the chance to make a name for herself. But spending so much time with Sebastian is brutal. While drinking is out of character for her, she's even more embarrassed that she lost control one night and tumbled into bed with him. To complete the humiliation, he acts like their night of debauchery never happened. How will she endure the next few weeks working with someone she's secretly infatuated with but who barely knows she's alive?

Latent variable models are a powerful tool for measuring many of the phenomena in which developmental psychologists are often interested. If these phenomena are not measured equally well among all participants, this would result in biased inferences about how they unfold throughout development. In the absence of such biases, measurement invariance is achieved; if this bias is present, differential item functioning (DIF) would occur. This Element introduces the testing of measurement invariance/DIF through nonlinear factor analysis. After introducing models which are used to study these questions, the Element uses them to formulate different definitions of measurement invariance and DIF. It also focuses on different procedures for locating and quantifying these effects. The Element finally provides recommendations for researchers about how to navigate these options to make valid inferences about measurement in their own data.

The Element identifies the logic of how the European Union (EU) has developed both in terms of the way the organization works and the way it has expanded to include new member states. It combines insights from the economic theories related to clubs and common-pool resources. The argument is that the EU may have started as a club, where members agreed to lose arrangements to generate and govern non-rivalrous goods from which only they could benefit, but it quickly evolved into a system of common-pool resources, where members have to manage rivalrous goods, the access to which cannot easily be refused to outsiders. That evolution was necessary to avoid the depletion of the goods EU member states depend on. The argument is illustrated through the evolution of the single market, the single currency, the single financial space, and security. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

This Element derives subjective poverty lines for seven Latin American countries based on a Minimum Income Question included in household expenditure surveys. It compares poverty incidence under the subjective and objective approach, finding subjective poverty is larger than objective for all countries. People identified as poor are generally poor by both measures or only subjective poor, although patterns of overlapping differ between countries. It explores the factors associated to considering oneself as poor - being subjectively poor- when the per capita household income is higher than the objective poverty line. Generally, unemployment and informality are associated with higher probability of subjective poverty. Other factors not directly involving income but reflecting high economic security also tend to reduce the probability of feeling poor. Finally, the welfare stigma effect does not seem to hold, at least in terms of subjective poverty. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

Love Magic and Control in Premodern Iberian Literature
This book explores the complexity of Iberian identity and multicultural/multi-religious interactions in the Peninsula through the lens of spells, talismans, and imaginative fiction in medieval and early modern Iberia. Focusing particularly on love magic—which manipulates objects, celestial spheres, and demonic conjurings to facilitate sexual encounters—Menaldi examines how practitioners and victims of such magic as represented in major works produced in Castile. Magic, and love magic in particular, is an exchange of knowledge, a claim to power and a deviation from or subversion of the licit practices permitted by authoritative decrees. As such, magic serves as a metaphorical tool for understanding the complex relationships of the Christian with the non-Christian. In seeking to understand and incorporate hidden secrets that presumably reveal how one can manipulate their environment, occult knowledge became one of the funnels through which cultures and practices mixed and adapted throughout the centuries.

This text rearticulates understandings of materials—blocks of clay, sheets of paper, brushes and paints, fabrics, and plastics—to formulate new ideas about what happens when we think with materials and apply them to early childhood development and classrooms.Through a series of ethnographic examples and engagement with existing ideas of relationality in the visual arts, feminist ethics, science studies, philosophy, anthropology, and environmental humanities, Encounters with Materials in Early Childhood Education highlights how materials can be conceptualized as active participants in early childhood education. Updated to include choreographies with fabrics and the process of reparation with plastics, this second edition shows how educators, young children, and researchers have explored what materials are capable of in their encounters with other materials and with children. The book is key reading for undergraduate students, graduate students, and pre-service teachers in early childhood education and art education programs. Law, Social Movements and the Politics of the Commons
This book reinterprets the notion of the commons by tracing how it has been mobilised in the aftermath of economic crisis. In a period of widespread activism against the privatisation of resources and services implemented through austerity policies, the reconceptualisation of property as a non-absolute and non-individualistic institution has attracted a great deal of attention. Drawing on the case of the Italian South, and in the wake of economic crisis, this book offers a critical analysis of the struggle for the commons. More specifically, as it details how discourses, legal tools and policies based on disciplinary ideas of the commons are deployed in the neoliberal restructuring of societies, the book considers how conflicting ideas of the commons express different, and often clashing visions, of urban space. In this regard, moreover, it shows how law plays a central, albeit ambivalent, role in the struggle for the commons: as both a governmental technique to regulate urban space and its residents and as an emancipatory tactic to advance non-proprietary visions of ownership. This book will be of interest to scholars in socio-legal studies, property law, legal sociology and politics, as well as others with more general interests in the critical potential of contemporary social movements.

Science and technology have long been considered key for development, problem solving and education in low-income countries, and Sweden has been at the forefront of efforts in this area, as one of the first countries to formalize research aid. This book analyses how the Swedish Agency for Research Cooperation with Developing Countries (Sarec) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) have worked to promote science in low-income countries. In doing so, the book tackles challenging questions around whose knowledges and capacities count, who sets the research agenda, how knowledge resources are distributed, and how complex donor–recipient relationships serve both to address and inflate these issues. Through a discursive analysis of policy material and interviews with former directors at Sarec and Sida as well as other key persons, the book traces how perceptions of the relationship between research and development have shifted over the last five decades.Pointing to why long-term collaboration is necessary in order to contribute significantly to capacity building, as well as highlighting more general tensions relating to the production of knowledge, Sweden’s Research Aid Policy: The Role of Science in Development will be a valuable resource for advanced students and researchers of foreign aid, development cooperation and the history of science and technology.
