The Correspondence from April 19th, to July 18th, 1783, with Vice-Admiral Sir Edward Hughes, ...
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.Medical theory and practice of the 1700s developed rapidly, as is evidenced by the extensive collection, which includes descriptions of diseases, their conditions, and treatments. Books on science and technology, agriculture, military technology, natural philosophy, even cookbooks, are all contained here.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. Falco: The Next Generation--Flavia Albia has taken up her father's profession. Only, now Rome is a more dangerous, mercurial place than it was back in dear old dad's day . . . Flavia Albia is the adopted daughter of Marcus Didius Falco and Helena Justina. From her mother, she learned how to blend in at all levels of society; from her father, she learned the tricks of their mutual professional trade. But her wits and (frequently) sharp tongue are hers alone. Now, working as a private informer in Rome during the reign of Domitian, Flavia has taken over her father's old ramshackle digs at Fountain Court in the Surbura district, where she plies her trade with energy, determination, and the usual Falco luck. Recently hired to help investigate a fatal accident, she finds herself stuck with a truly awful person for a client and facing a well-heeled, well-connected opponent. That is, until her client unexpectedly dies under what might be called "suspicious circumstances." While this is not a huge loss for society, it is a loss for Flavia Albia's pocket. Even worse, it's just one of a series of similar deaths for which she now finds herself under suspicion. Before things go from abysmal to worse, Flavia must sort out what is happening, and who is responsible, in Lindsey Davis' The Ides of April.

Quirke returns in the third volume of John Banville's celebrated series A junior doctor at a local hospital, April Latimer is a scandalous presence in the conservative and highly patriarchal society of 1950s Dublin: the independently-minded scion of a well-connected family, she has decidedly unconventional taste in men. When she vanishes, her friend Phoebe fears the worst--and calls on her father, forensic pathologist Quirke, for help. Sober again after intensive treatment for alcoholism, Quirke enlists his old sparring partner, Detective Inspector Hackett, in the search for the missing young woman. In their separate ways the two men retrace April's trail through Dublin's seedier side. But as Quirke contends with a beguiling actress, racial tensions, and April's formidable family, Phoebe finds she is being watched... Elegy for April is a masterclass in tension and atmosphere from "one of the best novelists in English" (The Guardian).

Hay Rake Magazine by Arch Bristow (1882-1964) This book is a reproduction of Arch Bristow's famous humor magazine published about 100 years ago. He began in the newspaper business as a cartoonist with the owl character "Zimmie," which started in 1902 and became syndicated nationally. He likely did all the illustrations in the Hay Rake as they seem to be in his style. He began the self-published monthly magazine "Hay Rake" in 1920 at the age of 38 in a modest shoemaker's shop in the hamlet of Garland, PA. He grew it to a subscription of 20,000 in a few months and continued to publish it till about 1939. Perhaps after his hair went gray, he was known as the "Sage of Garland." He continued to write newspaper columns till his death in 1964. Donald Antrim

As the sun lowered in the sky one Friday afternoon in April 2006, acclaimed author Donald Antrim found himself on the roof of his Brooklyn apartment building, afraid for his life. In this moving memoir, Antrim vividly recounts what led him to the roof and what happened after he came back down: two hospitalisations, weeks of fruitless clinical trials, the terror of submitting to ECT—and the saving call from David Foster Wallace that convinced him to try it—as well as years of fitful recovery and setback. One Friday in April reframes suicide—whether in thought or action—as an illness in its own right, a unique consequence of trauma and personal isolation, rather than the choice of a depressed person. A necessary companion to William Styron’s classic Darkness Visible, this profound, insightful work sheds light on the tragedy and mystery of suicide, offering solace that may save lives. Named one of the Most Anticipated of Books of 2021 by The Los Angeles Times, Literary Hub and The Millions.
