This is a completely new edition of the records of Sir Henry Herbert, brother of the poet George Herbert and, as Master of the Revels, the official responsible for licensing and censoring plays from 1623 to 1642 and from 1660 to 1673. The only previous edition of Sir Henry's records appeared in 1917, edited by J. Q. Adams. Dr Bawcutts' edition contains much fresh material, including 49 hitherto unknown play licenses from the recently discovered Burn transcript. In the Restoration section of the records are sixty items not contained in Adams, most of which have never been published. Dr Bawcutt's substantial Introduction includes a new biography of Sir Henry, an account of the strange and complicated history of his private papers, and the fullest description available of his activities as Master of the Revels. The Control and Censorship of Caroline Drama will be an essential document for literary scholars and theatre historians interested in the governmental regulation of drama.

2012 National Indie Excellence Book Awards Finalist Memories of Union High uses archival research, remembrances from alums, faculty, family, and friends, excerpts from school newspapers and yearbooks, and over 100 photographs and other memorabilia to bring the school's history to life.In 1895, Caroline County Sunday School Union members implemented a plan to build and operate a secondary school for black children in Caroline County, Virginia. The school, named initially Bowling Green Industrial Academy, then Caroline County Training School, and finally Union High School, served as the only secondary school for black children in the county from 1903 to 1969.Union High alumni speak fondly of their school. Along with church and home, it was an important institution in their community. The administration and faculty nurtured, supported, and encouraged the students. They held them to high standards and expected them to excel. Parents and members of the community strove to support the school in every way possible. The school served all members of the community, not just students.For many, Union High was an oasis that sheltered the students from the hardships of growing up in a segregated society and provided them with a solid foundation to become productive citizens. The last group of students graduated from Union High School on June 5, 1969. At the start of the 1969-1970 school year, black and white students attended the school, renamed Bowling Green Senior High School when the Caroline County School system became integrated. Memories of Union High is a fitting tribute to the people associated with Union High and a good history lesson for those unfamiliar with the school.

Often derided as the buffoon who "hated all poets and painters", George II was fortunate to be served by Prime Ministers Sir Robert Walpole and William Pitt, and was wise enough to leave the business of government to them. His wife, generally regarded as the ablest of British queens between Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria, used her influence in politics and patronage so that she and Walpole effectively ruled the kingdom between them. Her death in 1737 was seen as a national calamity. Illustrated throughout, this new biography provides a much-needed reevaluation of these monarchs and the times in which they ruled.
