This book introduces the principles and foundations of advanced statistical methods for designing experiments and testing hypotheses in life sciences. Advanced statistical methods, such as testing of hypotheses, recent methods of sample size determination/imputation, estimation techniques, probability distributions, and univariate analysis demonstrated with real data, and their integration into life sciences are included in this book. Advanced topics are presented with sufficient conceptual depth and examples to explain the use of recent statistical techniques and to demonstrate what conclusions can be drawn at the right time using modeling in life science research.Key features:• Explains the derivation of statistical models to prove disease transmission using massive real-world datasets to explore practical applicability• Incorporates the application of innovative advanced statistical and epidemiological models and demonstrates the possible solutions for public health policy intervention• Helps to understand the process of hypothesis testing in small or larger observations by using weighted parameters• Presents suitable examples and real-life research datasets, and all models can easily be followed in formulating statistical and mathematical derivations and key points• Includes machine learning (ML), statistical methods for meta-analysis, testing of hypotheses, methods of imputation, estimation techniques, probability distributions, univariate analysis, and recent nonparametric methods, all illustrated through actual data. This textbook is for students and scholars of various courses in life sciences, medicine, mathematics, and statistical science. It will also help academicians and researchers to understand the foundation of this topic.

There is no doubt that gastroparesis is on the rise. It is associated with medical conditions such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease and connective tissue disorders, to name but a few. Many of these diseases are also on the rise but each is characterised by different causes underpinning gastroparesis. These causes need to be examined in detail before a lifetime of low fibre diets is succumbed to. Gastroparesis - as debilitating and distressing as it can be - can be a symptom of our life style choices which are so entrenched in our culture that they have become the norm and are seen as harmless. We all know that opioids can be constipating and delay gastric emptying but what other oft used analgesics have similar effects? What over the counter medicines slow peristaltic action? What are the hormonal and nervous contributions to peristaltic action? Can we change their response and, if so, how? The author examines common causes of gastroparesis and, more importantly, how to address them, without medication. It moves beyond accepting the condition and its dietary limitations to actively seeking to eliminate it.
What is fibromyalgia syndrome? How does it differ from chronic fatigue syndrome? When was it first recognised and why is it a syndrome? Do all people experience the same symptoms? This book explores fibromyalgia and its causes. The author argues that fibromyalgia syndrome does not just have one causal explanation and that the symptoms may have a number of diverse causes that result in similar and overlapping symptoms but would require different treatment approaches to resolve. This would offer an explanation as to why sufferers experience their own unique set of symptoms out of a broad range of symptoms experienced by sufferers overall. This offers an alternative explanation to the one that argues that differing symptoms are the result of genetic variation. The author examines three substances - that could result in symptoms of fibromyalgia - and one nutrient for which a deficiency could explain fibromyalgia syndrome. For any sufferer of these conditions, the way forward is simply one of trial and error. As always the author writes from the perspective that as diets change over time, so does our intake of nutrients and these have a part to play in the disease states which are manifested at any particular time.
