Your Fast Must Challenge You: Understanding the biblical mandate for fasting

What is it that seems hard to move in your life? What have been blocking your progress? Can you sense in your spirit that God has more for you than you are experiencing, but you can't seem to make it happen? Fasting and praying can make it happen. Biblical fasting is a secret source of power for the believer in Christ Jesus. Fasting is a secret weapon God has giving to his children. My primary goal for fasting and praying is to discipline my appetite and therefore release the power of God that's latent in my life and ministry. I want my preaching and teaching to be filled with the power of God. I want my writing to have the anointing of God on it. This comes through living a life of fasting and praying. You can do some things in ministry and it will be successful without fasting and praying. But to have the life changing effect on your ministry you need to fast and pray. At the end of this book, it is my prayer that you will begin to add fasting in your life. If you are already fasting, I pray you will be encouraged to continue to practice this life-changing discipline. Just like a good book on prayer makes you want to pray, it is my prayer that this book is good to you and will make you want to fast.

This book is a follow-up to the introductory text written by the same authors. The primary emphasis on this book is linear and nonlinear partial differential equations with particular concentration on the equations of viscous fluid motion. Each chapter describes a particular application of the finite element method and illustrates the concepts through example problems. A comprehensive appendix lists computer codes for 2-D fluid flow and two 3-D transient codes.
Spotlighting Asian Americans on both sides of the motion picture camera, Countervisions examines the aesthetics, material circumstances, and politics of a broad spectrum of films released in the last thirty years. This anthology focuses in particular on the growing presence of Asian Americans as makers of independent films and cross-over successes. Essays of film criticism and interviews with film makers emphasize matters of cultural agency -- that is, the practices through which Asian American actors, directors, and audience members have shaped their own cinematic images. One of the anthology's key contributions is to trace the evolution of Asian American independent film practice over thirty years. Essays on the Japanese American internment and historical memory, essays on films by women and queer artists, and the reflections of individual film makers discuss independent productions as subverting or opposing the conventions of commercial cinema. But Countervisions also resists simplistic readings of \u0022mainstream\u0022 film representations of Asian Americans and enumerations of negative images. Writing about Hollywood stars Anna May Wong and Nancy Kwan, director Wayne Wang, and erotic films, several contributors probe into the complex and ambivalent responses of Asian American audiences to stereotypical roles and commercial success. Taken together, the spirited, illuminating essays in this collection offer an unprecedented examination of a flourishing cultural production.

Nearly two thousand years ago a young Jewish rabbi known as Jesus of Nazareth was nailed to wooden beams and hoisted above the skyline of the city of Jerusalem. Christians ever since have proclaimed that this event, symbolized by the cross, lies at the very center of their faith. Indeed, they have claimed that in the cross event God has actually "saved the world." But how could a single man's execution centuries ago have anything to do with us in the twenty-first century? In these meditations, Darrell Johnson probes the mystery and majesty of the cross, exploring it from various angles and illuminating this core belief of Christian faith in its multiple dimensions. Darrell W. Johnson has served as a professor at Regent College, Vancouver, since the Fall of 2000, teaching in the areas of preaching, worship and pastoral theology. He is known for his faithful and engaging exposition of Scripture. Before joining the Regent faculty, he served as pastor of a number of Presbyterian congregations in the United States, as well as Union Church of Manila, Philippines. He is the author of Experiencing the Trinity, Fifty-Seven Words That Change the World (on the Lord's Prayer) and Discipleship of the Edge (on the book of Revelation).
When God Says War is Right

Across the centuries, how have Christians who follow the Prince of Peace responded to the recurring reality of war? And what guidance do they offer for believers today in the midst of global conflict? In When God Says War Is Right, Dr. Darrell Cole offers thorough and highly readable answers, providing an expert examination that focuses on topics such as relating the character of God with the use of force; determining when and how Christians ought to fight; and understanding why Christian virtues are vital when using force. Dr. Cole focuses on Romans 13, where Paul commands us to "do what is right" (or "good" or "noble") in regard to our governing authorities, who have legitimate war-making authority. In the case of war, what is "right" for the Christian? This book answers that essential question. In today’s war-stricken world, Dr. Cole provides timely, trustworthy, and much-needed guidance for Christians.
Leadership Under Construction
Darrell H. Young; Joseph P. Hester

Every construction project requires both contractors (concepts) and sub-contractors (applications). Leadership Under Construction assumes the role of contractor by laying a foundation that aspiring leaders can build upon throughout a life-long journey of leadership self-development. It is sure to become a self-development tool that supports students and teachers in building a conceptual foundation for leadership. The book is intended to be a teacher facilitation workbook where ownership is transferred from author to teacher and from teacher to student. The material is a catalyst of thought, knowledge, and understanding where teachers assist students in applying the principles and concepts of leadership and bring continuous attention to how they are connected. Authors Young and Hester encourage student thought in the following three fundamental concepts: Strategic thinking and performance, Continuous improvement and measurement, Relationship building and cultures These concepts best picture how the authors view the global requirements of a solid leadership foundation. When discussing "leadership", it has become increasingly difficult to confine the concepts and their interconnections to a few words or phrases. As a result, it is easy to understand how there would be disagreement and misunderstanding about what a leader is and does and exactly how a person becomes a leader. In this book, the authors hope to gain agreement on these issues and promote student unity on the leadership concepts that are worth following. They contend that this objective can be accomplished by linking thought with purpose, purpose with performance, and performance with relationships.
